Took this for my physical science credit. I liked Professor Ferrier a lot and really enjoyed his lecture, and my TA was amazing/gave helpful hints for lab. The quizzes are a sizable portion of your grade, though, and never seemed to be super related to what was emphasized in lecture/were very strangely worded. The video project was a blast, though!
Good lecturer and I personally really enjoyed lectures, but weekly quizzes seemed to be only tangentially related and unnecessarily complicated. However, weekly "labs" - discussion sections- were mostly decent. Content was extremely interesting and a good intro to geoscience, and despite the frustrating quizzes, it's not a hard course overall.
Good class to take to fulfill physical sci credit. Ken is super lovely and really cares about his work. Weekly quizzes are tough and don't always align with lecture material, labs aren't too bad and aren't graded super harshly. Optional exam at end of sem which is nice. Lectures can feel long but content is super interesting, his voice is golden.
The most boring and difficult-to-follow lectures that I've taken so far. Honestly I did not gain so much from him by going to lectures, which makes this "intro" course horrible. If you have more options, do NOT take this unnecessary course.
Seemed to not care about helping students. Had tech issues that essentially closed a quiz while I was doing it, and he gave no leeway. Did similar things to other classmates, and it was the general consensus that he was not a nice dude outside of class. Lectures tended to drag, and were hard to follow at times, but he was at least enthusiastic.
I never questioned my intelligence until I took this geology course. I would not recommend this course for anyone without prior knowledge of geology, which makes no sense considering it is a 101 class.
Prof Ken was a really good professor! For my liking, he was a little too lecture heavy, but he was able to clearly explain geology topics and made me understand things I am interested in even more. Also, I did forget we had the textbook because we never actually used it, but I recommend it for quizzes (which don't really relate to the lectures).
Ken is super passionate about what he teaches which makes lectures very interesting. The weekly discussion/lab is pretty easy but depends on your TA. Quizzes are very difficult but you get 2 tries. Overall, it's not difficult to get a good grade and very interesting for those who don't know much about geology.
His class was a good intro level geoscience. I would recommend to take GEO 106. It was easy enough and lectures were somewhat interesting.
Ken is a great professor with engaging lectures on a topic many consider boring. I wish he made his class more difficult, as there are no exams and it is easy to just get the answers from other people. Nobody went to lecture after the first few weeks. Grading criteria is 50% weekly labs (packets), 35% weekly online quizzes (2 attempts) 15% misc.
Environ/Geosci 106 is not a hard class, with 2 lectures and a 50-minute discussion ("lab") per week. The lectures have a lot of content/slides but it's all on canvas so you can just refer back to it. There are no exams, and the final is optional, making Ken's lectures fairly pointless to attend. One online canvas quiz per week with two attempts. E
Ken was the worst professor I've ever had. The lectures he gives do not match up with the weekly quizzes that are insanely hard for an elementary level science credit. He is not helpful if you approach him for help. Would never recommend this class. I liked the TA, Rudy, though.
Lectures are not mandatory but that is where you get all the info for the class. Ken is an excellent lecturer and listens to feedback well. The labs are mandatory, once a week and they can be pretty hard/math-heavy. Weekly quizzes on the lecture material can be quite difficult but you get two attempts. Overall not too hard to get an A.
Overall the class is graded by weekly labs and quizzes, optional final exam. Labs could be difficult but he and the TA's are willing to help you. Notes are posted so lecture is not mandatory but he is very interesting to listen to since he is very passionate.
Ken is a great dude, but lectures are pretty unnecessary. 1 online quiz a week with 2 attempts. Have 1 lab each week that are sometimes difficult but can usually finish them within the lab time. Overall good class that you really don't need to go to except the required labs.
Took this class because it came highly recommended: worst decision ever. I struggled more in this class than I did in chemistry. Lectures are incredibly long and unorganized, material was barely helpful. Quizzes are hard and pull from only textbook material. There are no instructions for labs and it is very hard to get a response for any questions
Ken really cares about his class and I wish he had made attendance/participation mandatory so that he would get the class engagement he deserves. He tries really hard to make the material interesting and digestible. This class was very easy and a great choice if you need to fulfill a physical science credit.
If you are thinking of an easy elective for your science requirements, this class is not an easy class. The class has labs per week with so many terms, graphs, and tables. The quizzes are very tricky to get a good grade. This class will take your whole time to get a good grade and it will ruin your GPA. This class should be advanced instead of elem
This is one of the easiest classes you'll find. I stopped going to the lectures after the 3rd week when I realized there were no exams and only weekly online quizzes, with half the answers on quizlet. Professor Ferrier is a good guy, but there was no point in attending his lectures. Easy class to get an A in while putting forth minimal effort.
It's an easy class... lectures were fine when I went but it was hard to force myself to pay attention since I didn't really have to. Gave an optional extra credit exam at the end of the semester to replace the lowest 2 quiz scores.
