I don't hate her or anything but if you have had any courses that deal with French cinema: silent, pre-war, new wave, pulp, 80's, etc., nothing new here. I transferred
Kelly is passionate and a wonderful person. Her content in 313 felt short-winded for an hour and fifteen minute lecture. I enjoyed her picks for screenings, but found Thursday's discussions of the films to be wasteful. You won't be disappointed, but you won't be blown away.
I adore Professor Conway. I took this course and Global Art Cinema with her and she is SO knowledgable, presenting the information in a way that clearly shows her love of the field. I cannot recommend this professor highly enough--wish I could take even more courses with her!
Amazing Professor! Inspirational, really changed how I think about film. People may not agree with me, but I would never be the same without taking this class. I would say that is was the best part of the week, except for college football games.
Kelley is an incredible professor. She's clearly very passionate for film, she's an eloquent speaker, and she uses many examples, which all make for great lectures. The assignments are difficult, especially the shot breakdown, but she and the TA's are very helpful. The tests are pretty easy if you don't miss lecture and take good notes. Loved 350.
Horrible Class. The content is such nonsense. This class is graded definitively (via multiple choice exams) for completely subjective, debatable nonsense. Good luck.
I really enjoyed French Film but I can totally see that a lot of people could hate it. There are a TON of reading assignments, and many of them are extremely dry. That said, her lectures are so energetic and informative. She has so many great stories and so much enthusiasm for the topic. She's also incredibly kind and funny. Much respect.
I love learning about the French New Wave! 350 grading depends 100% on your TA. The lectures are great - I especially enjoyed hearing about Dr. Conway's experiences in Belgium, France, etc.
She's nice and all but I defintely expected more from this class that I got!
European Art Cinema: Great class, learned a lot. Prof Conway is open and accepting - participate in discussion and act your age...she will like you. I really appreciated the respect she has for her class. Knows a lot about film, speaks fluent French which is pretty cool. Also had 350 with her - she rocks. Real easy grader too.
Super sweet lady who is extremely well spoken and passionate about film. Some of the films she chose for screenings were a little boring, but other than that I was always interersted. The papers are harder than the tests, but both are manageable if you attend lecture and ask for help if you need it. I recommend kelly!
Class is OK, but pretty dull. I don't hate it or anything but I could use more food for thought.
Excellent teacher, she provides a hard copy outline at the start of lecture which is very helpful. Explains everything very well and uses lots of example clips. She talks very quietly though and you can't hear her if she doesn't use a microphone.
Class just wasn't very impressive especially if you know ANYTHING about film.
Professor Conway is extremely smart and sweet. She is well spoken. It is a little difficult to take notes because she does not use power point, but she does hand out a lecture outline at the beginning of each class. If you go to class and do the readings, it is manageable.
Prof. Conway is very dedicated to film and loves the topic. She makes you love it! I really liked this class, although some of the films were a little boring. I recommend it. I learned to appreciate film!
took Conway for French film and she was amazing ... always interested in what students had to say and extremely effective at teaching the important material
Kelley is great! She is always enthusiastic about the films and explains things well. If you ask, she will go out of her way to help you and meet with you personally. Very helpful and fun class!
yeah, her class is easy. And stupid.
Prof Conway is a wonderful teacher. She loves film, and it makes the class really fun. She has a very comfortable style of teaching which is refreshing. She's kind of quirky and funny, but very nice. She always made sure the class wasn't too difficult. You can definitely get by without doing the readings, although they are helpful.
I love Kelley! She is so nice and a wonderful teacher. You can ask her anything.
Kelly is wonderful! Definitely take a class with her if you have the chance! She knows EVERYTHING about French film, so if that interests you, talk with her!
Conway is awesome. She's very enthusiatic about what she teaches. I didn't find her to be disorganized. She has the sort of optimism for film that I wish I saw more of in the department. (Heads up though: Don't be like me--have common sense; if the midterm is in 4070, bring your own writing surface.)
Kelly Conway is fantastic. Really! She's very articulate and intelligent. And, while it's true that she summarizes the readings, she enhances them as well. Her clips are very useful. (It must be admitted that she's a bit poorly organized, but that's okay.) VERY likable.
Very intelligent and interesting lecturer. Knows her stuff and has lots of good clips, although the lectures can be a little unorganized, it is not difficult if you attend class.
not always the most organized lectures, but an interesting class and a nice lady who knows and loves her stuff
She has some good moments - but her lectures are very disorganized, she goes off on tangents, and since she only summarizes the assigned readings - classes are not very stimulating. she is a very nice person, her classes are just sub-par.
very clear, friendly, and personable. clearly loves film and knows what she is teaching.
