She puts so much time and effort into each of her students, and you truly feel seen in each conversation and through each question. She is so passionate about what she teaches, and clearly wants to pass on her knowledge of primatology and anthropology to all of her students. I one hundred percent recommend her to anyone interested in zoology.
Strier's lecture are interesting and thorough. You HAVE to do the outside readings and have lots of background knowledge already on primates in order to do well in this class. Overall great class and experince, I really enjoyed having Strier. Homework was thoughtful and no busy work. I will be taking more of her classes for sure in the future.
Professor Strier is honestly one of the coolest professors Ive met on campus. Her classes can be challenging, but in the way that is inspiring and makes you want to dig in deep into subject material to better understand it instead of just giving up. She is receptive to all questions, and always has great stories from her field site to share!
Dr. Strier is an extremely intelligent woman, as becomes evident within the first minute of meeting her. She knows what she is talking about and facilitates amazing conversations in her classes. If you didn't care for primates before her class, you most certainly will after. Be concise with her and know your question before asking it.
Prof Strier is AMAZING. She is crazy passionate about her work in research as well as teaching. She is one of the few professors that I've encountered that actually want to make sure you learn and have a good time doing it. She's super quirky but makes lectures SO interesting and the reading is well spaced and easy to get through. TAKE HER CLASSES.
Dr. Strier is easily my favorite professor on this campus and I am lucky enough to be helping her with her research. She is more than willing to help you understand the material presented in class. She is also one of the nicest people you will meet on this campus. I recommend taking any of her classes!
She was so nice and really into biological anthro! She genuinely cares about her students and wants you to succeed. I would take her class :) The exam for anthro 100 was pretty hard, but I should have studied more. KNOW THE LECTURE NOTES.
Best professor ever. Take a class with her, you will not regret it! Passionate, hilarious, and smart. Seriously, you will love her.
Very interesting and different personality. Some people didn't like it but i thought it was a nice change of pace. She always grabbed my attention and the lectures were easy to follow. Definitely the best section of General Anthropology.
Karen is passionate about what she does - she will draw you right into her primate world! Also, in one of her lectures she uses the genetics of skin color to disprove racial classifications.
She's a great lecturer, but you HAVE to read the book to get a good grade. Heck, she wrote it. Only 3 exams, some multiple choice, essay, and diagram drawing. Semi-tough. Just make sure you go to every lecture. She likes to show movies of monkeys, which is always a treat!
Strier is kind of a kooky lady, but that means lectures are usually interesting and sometimes even fun to listen to. She's really enthusiastic about the topic. Her exam was really easy as well. Definitely the best section in anthro 100.
Dr. Strier isn't a friendly woman, but she is extremely intelligent (she has a 25 page CV for a reason) and knows what she's talking about. Her tests are very fair and if you go to lecture and supplement with textbook, you'll be in good shape. She's a fun lecturer and easy to follow. Very good class!
She is crazy and entertaining, but in a good way. She just loves anthropology. And I didn't even know we had to do book readings and still got a 92 on the exam.
Very fun professor, she really knew what she was talking about and came to lecture very prepared, with well put-together powerpoints that were easy to follow. The test was very fair and not hard if you read the book and go to lecture. Overall great professor
Best professor I've ever had at UW! She is amazing, helpful, spunky, and wicked intelligent. She has a totally different feel than other other professor you'll ever had... in a good way. Her lectures are easy to follow and test was fairly easy.
Very nice and very helpful. Quirky but entertaining. Goes a little heavy on the reading, but overall is very enjoyable
She's kind of crazy, but she is awesome and she really knows her stuff about primates. This class was great because it didnt require a lot of work, just some reading outside of class, but forming study groups that get together right before exams helped (I didnt even have to read). (she wrote the book, so lecture correlates directly with book mater.
Crystal clear professor and very fair. Just about everyone is intimidated by her, but she's got fire and I think she's great inspiration for all women.
Really pleasant (and certainly quirky) woman, well planned lectures, easy-to-follow material. She genuinely cares about what she's doing, which is always good to see.
not that cool, very interesting but NOT friendly at all...or she really did not like ;E :-)
great attitude...really loves what she does. nice easy exam if you go to lecture and read. also, fun to talk to outside of class...i agree, a little quirky, but great fun.
thoughtfully planned lectures. quirky in a very endearing way
Professor Strier knew what she was talking about, and seemed to genuinely enjoy what she was doing. All-around good pick!
She's a very unique person
Great teacher!!! Everyone loved her!
Overall, her section of the course was enjoyable. She made it clear what we needed to know, which allowed for more focused studying. Not esp. eager to help non-majors outside of class time, but this doesn't matter if you have a good TA (e.g., Meiggs).
She was very bubbly and enthusiastic about her section of the class. she really seemed to enjoy what she was teaching and what she does.
