Karen was awesome, if you are taking comm b for this class, discussion kinda sucks but nothing too bad. She has a British accent that makes lectures fun.

I loved her lectures! I have never had a professor be so engaging like she was. There was very little homework and I opened the textbook once. The homework that we did have were four short essays and she didn't grade most of them until the last couple weeks of school which was a bummer. She is not a harsh grader though.

AMAZING prof INCREDIBLE class. I have taken SO much from this course and specifically Britland's insight on W. Euro Culture. She opens your eyes to an entirely new realm of thinking and adds humor while synthesizing art and culture through history. Listen to her lectures - purely for your own learning, not just for the grade. She taught me so much.

She has a cool accent and engages with students well. Very enthusiastic about course material, and often displays multiples forms of media in lectures. She is timely with emails, but a bit forgetful. The class is very straightforward and a good Com-B option with minimal presentations.

Professor Britland is an amazing teacher because of her transparency and honesty, her use of humor to engage students, her empathy with regard to assignment dates, and her understanding that students lead busy lives. She has a lovely UK accent as well which made reading Shakespeare and lectures a lot more fun. She has a nonjudgmental attitude.

Professor Britland is really amazing! Witches and Wizards Literature was really fun. We read a book nearly every week, but they were primarily children's novels and were fun reads to balance out a courseload of STEM. She is very accessible for help when you need it. She is so sweet and really passionate about her work, she wants to see you succeed!

Clear she cares and enjoys teaching. Class is very discussion-based. Vast majority of grade is from 3 assignments, with a mix of play and film analysis. Somewhat nitpicky grader, and her precise grading is a little ambiguous which can be frustrating, but almost my whole class got A or AB. She'll definitely push you to go deep in your analysis.

Britland is clearly very knowledgeable about her subject, and this class (Women and War) had lots of interesting material. My main problem with her was that she didn't actually do a lot of teaching - mostly just let students steer the discussion and offered some comments here and there. I felt like I didn't learn nearly as much as I could have.

Karen is one of the best teachers I've had at this University. She helped me realize that my thoughts and research matters and pushed me to be a better student. To say she shaped what my undergrad ended up looking like is an understatement.

Britland is a great lecturer and is always willing to help. She's funny and keeps class interesting. I was not interested in Shakespeare but took this class and enjoyed it. Not a super easy class but probably a better lit class than others. I would recommend!

There is a lot of reading and writing involved in this class. Britland is an amazing lecturer and I didn't mind going to lectures. She's keeps you engaged and tries to get you involve. She's also pretty funny. I thought this course would be easier but its definitely doable. Overall would recommend!

Easily the best teacher I've ever had because she did the impossible: made Shakespeare fun and interesting. She makes her students laugh in every lecture and is a delight to learn from. I would recommend her course to anyone!

Britland is a good prof who's really passionate about Shakespeare. That being said, the class is mostly made difficult by the TAs, who grade papers very harshly, and paper expectations are often unclear. Reading all of the plays isn't really necessary, I just read the parts that I was writing about in essays.

Professor Britland is a really fun professor passionate about what she teaches. She's a fair grader and really pushes students to improve on their writing and close-reading of texts.

Professor Britland is fantastic! She tends to grade essays more harshly than my other profs (she has admitted to giving only 2 or 3 "A"'s per class per essay), but she offers lots of feedback and conducts very in-depth, engaging seminar-style classes.

I rarely read anything unless I was writing a paper related to a certain play! Prof. Britland is a very compassionate and fun teacher. She would do anything to help her students. Though the class isn't exactly an "easy A", it was interested and definitely a lower workload than most classes.

Great lecturer! She is passionate about Shakespeare, and her accent is perfect for the material! Absolutely adorable, and willing to answer any questions you may have. However, there are four papers assigned (3 pages, 4 pages, 5 pages, 7 pages) and the TAs are pretty hard to satisfy. Not an easy class, but enjoyable! Would recommend.

She's so passionate about the subject that you can't help but share some of her enthusiasm. She makes great arguments on the readings and also shares interesting connections to classical literature.

Karen Britland is the greatest person of all time. That is a scientific fact. Her lectures are entertaining and informative. She is just simply the embodiment of wonderful. Take a class with her if you get the chance!

AMAZING Professor. She is really intresting (and funny) and will keep you engaged. I actually ENJOY going to class although it is not necessary for success in the course but her teaching style makes you want to attend. She is also extremely helpful and willing to help in office hours. One of the best Madison has to offer!

I took this class to fulfill a literature requirement and it turned out to be my favorite class of the semester! Professor Britland really knows her stuff and lecture is interesting and engaging. She's got a great sense of humor - and a cool accent! Very insightful and helpful, she really wants her students to succeed

Always clear and keeps you interested. Never a dull lecture.

I don't really like Shakespeare but all of her lectures were fascinating! Great insight into a lot of topics and really knows what she's talking about. She's a really friendly, quirky professor and I didn't find her intimidating at all. Posts lecture slides online but says a lot more in class so it's worth going. And TA Nancy was fantastic.

By far the best English Prof at Madison. Funny, interesting, makes what could be boring content exciting and fun. I never wanted to miss class because it was always interesting. No tests, only papers which she is very willing to help you with. Her Shakespeare intro class made me into an English major!

Britland is a truly amazing Prof. Brilliant woman, best tutor. She's passionate about her study and teaching; wonderfully insightful. Delivers circumspect, and highly entertaining lectures in lively, congenial manner; I look forward to every one! will be sad when this semester ends & they're over.

Excellent, best tutor ever. Makes every other lecturer feel boring.

Ehh, I dunno. She's got an interesting 'feminist lit crit bias' so be aware of that. Enthusiastic and clearly enjoys Shakespeare. Also sort of intimidating - nobody EVER asked any questions in lecture. A very high-strung individual.

Britland is the best. I wish she could teach all my classes. Go to her office hours and ask questions and you'll actually end up loving Shakespeare, plus she likes to talk movies which is cool. Class isn't necessarily easy but her passion makes it much better than you'd ever expect.

She is amazing! She has this awesome British accent which is perfect for her Shakespeare classes. Not to mention what she actually teaches... she finds meaning in a normally boring or confusing play. I never noticed certain things in plays like Romeo&Juliet until her class!

Britland is a fantastic teacher. I had her Shakespeare class, and all of her lectures are highly entertaining as well as interesting. Plus, she has this fantastic british accent, which is perfect for a Shakespeare class. The class itself is rather fast paced, but you can get away with not reading one or two plays. I highly recommend her.

She's amazing! Her classes are discussion heavy and really flexible and entertaining. No exams, only papers, which aren't too difficult.

Really great teacher, very flexible on essays and always available for help. Plus cute with a british accent, how can ya go wrong

Really enjoyed this class and I usually hate english. She is an amazing lecturer and kept the material very interesting. Amazing accent didn't hurt either. The only issue is that grading is done by the TAs so you might get unlucky. I would definitely recommend the class though

Amazing Professor, no TAs in the Shakespeare 418 class so your grade is completely dependent on how much effort you put into researching for the paper & the content. She makes herself available to help you & even offers up useful articles to help you get that A but you have to do the work :D <3 her!

Professor Britland is everything a human being should be. She is incredibly funny and original and competent and her lectures are interesting and entertaining.

Great professor, really keeps you interesting. Papers are really easy, but you grade solely depends on your TA.

Lecture and the professor are great. She's funny, insightful, and really cares for you to understand everything. However, your TA decides what grade you get. No one in my discussion got above a B, and Karen has no system for accounting for strict/easy TA's. The papers are easy, but if your TA is strict, you're screwed.

Absolutely wonderful. Brilliant ideas, great humor, and cool british accent. Takes random attendance count, but class isn't boring so its not bad. Watch movies every other tuesday. Can get away with not reading every book (wikipedia it!) and use the book for specifics. GREAT TEACHER. oh, and most guys think shes pretty hot.
