She is very caring and is always willing to help with any questions. She is very passionate about her job!

I really like this class; Ksenija is a very smart professor and really cares about your success in the class. She wants everyone to succeed and learn. Don't hesitate to ask questions, she's helpful and good at communicating. She brought us candy and was willing to adjust class for students travelling for break. Overall, she is a lenient grader.

Ksenija is an awesome professor! She cares about her students and is accessible outside of class. During her lectures, participation is super important so make sure you're contributing at least once or twice a class. Her grading is relatively lenient as well. Do not be put off by the other scathing reviews. Her class is worth it.

I would not recommend taking a class with her unless you are interested in literature, or are planning on being an active participant in class. She will correct you and tell you that you're wrong in front of everyone. However, she was a really easy grader on written assignments and projects. Exams were online and MC. Bad vibes, but an okay plan C.

Attendance counts a ton for her. I missed a few classes and she gave me a 0 on attendance halfway through the semester so I just stopped going. I still did fine on exams and papers. She will interrupt you mid sentence to correct you or argue with you (in front of the entire class). She assigns a ton of readings, which are long and complicated.

She assigns a ton of readings, and then judges students for not knowing everything. You have to agree with her on your analysis or she will argue with you infront of the entire class. She will correct grammar and judge students for pronouncing things wrong. She doesn't use powerpoint so she just talks at you. Worst Spanish professor i've had.

Based on the reviews I read on here, I was terrified to take this class, and I won't lie, she can be pretty brutal. In class, she is quite scary, but she's very kind in communication. She genuinely wants to help you learn, so as long as you show her you're committed to her class, you should do fine, and she's a fairly lenient grader, which helps.

Honestly not the worst prof I've had. She's actually pretty sweet and mostly just wants students to participate. If you do the readings and talk at least once every class you'll do fine. Her class was fairly easy you just have to be prepared because she can ask tough questions and be intimidating at times.

While I think she has good intentions, she is not a great professor. Spanish should be a subject where you can have opinions on literature but if you don't agree with her, she thinks you're wrong. She is very inconsiderate and rude, while also doesn't give clear guidelines on what she wants in assignments which makes the course hard.

Professor Bilbija is the worst professor I've ever had. She was extremely insensitive, assigned impossible amounts of readings (sometimes 2 Spanish novels in a week) and she consistently publicly shamed students for not knowing every detail of the readings/grammar. Her attitude towards students was so negative, it felt like intentional harassment.

Professor Bilbija has a very aggressive attitude towards students and generally speaks down to them. She assigns an impossible amount of pre-class reading which would be difficult to complete if we weren't all taking 3-4 other classes. She would also put students on the spot and criticizes them if we were not able to complete this work.

The class was fine, it was Ksenijas attitude towards students that was disheartening. She was extremely rude when I reached out for help and began accusing me of cheating (which I hadn't) when I was simply asking for help. Shes intimidating, which made me very anxious and instead of helping me, she chastised me for being nervous to ask for help.

There are multiple novels and documentaries that you are expected to read and know in detail EVERY week. She calls on students randomly to quiz them, interrupts student presentations to critique, and makes the class scary and uncomfortable. I have never had such an unapproachable professor and had lots of anxiety over this course.

knowledgeable, poor teacher, bad personality. My grandfather got a rare cancer, had 6 wks to live. I asked if I could visit him for 1 wk & miss class, but Id send all my assignments early. She said well if my father died, I just cant fly to Europe, and something about how I need to learn to deal with disappointment feeling entitled to leave

I took this class over the summer. It was ok. Tons of reading and lectures. She gives good, critical feedback. She seems very intimidating, but it wasn't really that bad. This class had only 75 total exam points, so if you bombed one exam, your chance at an A is out the window. Overall, the class was average.

Ksenija won't hesitate to correct your grammar midsentence, which throws some people off but I found it very helpful. She expects you to participate and doesn't accept vague answers. As long as she can see you are genuinely trying in class you'll do fine. Great lady

I learned so much more than I thought I would in Ksenija's class. She is extremely smart and knows what she is talking about; however, with that, she is very opinionated and she makes it seem as if there's only one way to interpret literature. However, despite her verbal comments during presentations, she is a very generous grader.

Ksenija is THE BEST! I almost didn't take her class because of the reviews but I am SO glad that I did. She's definitely tough and will correct you when you're wrong (even if it's in front of the whole class) but she does it out of love. If you're a good student, she is so helpful if you need anything (other classes or professors or just advice).

The literature we read in 461 was super interesting and I learned A TON in this class, but Professor Bilbija is horrible and very condescending. If you are shy & don't like to participate much, don't take this class. She will humiliate you in front of everyone, & make you feel stupid & insecure about your Spanish. I was uncomfortable everyday :(

Ksenija was a very difficult professor to have as a first semester freshman. However, I do think she had good intentions. It's a lot of reading, the expectations are high, and she can be kind of harsh. But if you attend classes, give 100% effort in and outside of the classroom, and have the desire to learn Spanish, you will succeed in this class.

I love Ksenija! I almost didn't take her course because of some of the comments on here, but am so glad that I did! She's incredibly knowledgeable, has a great sense of humor (yes, I speak sarcasm), and was more than willing to make accommodation for her students! If you do the readings and show an interest in the class, you will get an A no proble

She is very opinionated. She is also very particular about what she expects out of her students. If you are ever in need of help, I'm telling you, ASK! Don't be afraid of asking, because the fear of asking will build up, you'll become more and more confused, and then it just gets harder for you. Be respectful, be attentive, and participate.

Avoid if you can - unclear grading criteria and a ridiculous amount of assigned reading create many headaches. If you have the chutzpah to talk to her after doing poorly on an assignment, she'll probably let you re-do it. Participate in class and be confident in your answers/opinions to avoid being steamrolled. Watch out for her cynicism.

Spanish 460 (Literature and Human Rights) is the hardest class I have ever taken at UW, but also the most rewarding. Ksenija is extremely smart, very funny, and very opinionated - but who isn't? You can make a real connection with her, which is awesome. The class, though tough, was extremely interesting and I would take it again in a heart beat!

Very intimidating and her opinion is always right. If you can just accept she's always right she will tolerate you. Do readings and delegate time to study before tests and you should get an alright grade. An A is achievable but probably from native speakers due to complex readings she expects you to dissect as if spanish was your first language.

Very intimidating professor who tends to scare students from participating. Often gives unclear instructions or changes them often. Greatly improved my Spanish skills, however. Need to work hard in the class to get an A.

A very knowledgeable professor who inspires students to think critically and analytically about all subject matter. The one drawback of this professor is that her perspective/interpretation is the only correct perspective/interpretation. People who disagree with her will not do as well in the class.

She was a tough professor. If you didn't do the readings before class, she would be able to tell and would make it clear. Sometimes, her lectures seemed to be all over the place and tended to be one sided. But, she was very nice and helpful if you put the work in. She was very knowledgable, and overall I enjoyed the class.

never had a teacher that made me feel more uncomfortable. I asked her a question once, and she told me that that was a first semester spanish question and maybe i shouldn't be in the class. lit classes are supposed to have room for interpretation, but she won't allow anything she doesn't agree with. very brash, and shouldn't be a teacher.

Incredible professor. Yes she is tough and yes she makes you think, but isn't that why we're in college? To learn? She was funny and discussions were very productive and helpful in learning the material. The stories that we read were interesting which made it easier to get everything done on time. Stickler for correctness which was helpful.

She is amazing. I learned so much from this woman.

incredibly interesting class. read lots of shorts stories that make you think. her discussions in class are helpful; i learned a lot. very cool but doesn't let you get away with crap. she expects you to read & do the work required for this level class....what else would you expect. very refreshing professor. i really enjoyed her class.

incredibly insightful & smart professor. i liked the class & learned a lot. if you do the work (3exams, 1paper, 1presentation) and talk some you'll be fine. she's got her own style, will try to get you talk, which makes some uncomfortable since she doesn't coddle. very refreshing teacher, just asks what's expected of you. i learned tons!!

Lit class w/ 3 exams, 1 paper, & a presentation. Offers a lot; really made us think. I learned a lot. She's not harsh, she just likes you to talk and explain yourself and will correct mistakes. I really liked her. She was real and doesn't coddle, very refreshing & nice professor. If you do the work and talk you'll be fine.

She expected us to read an insane amount of books, which I don't think anybody in the class actually finished. There's 2 exams, a paper, and a presentation, so your grade doesn't ride on very much. She does pick on people and I didn't think her teaching style was very clear

How this lady is still teaching is beyond me. She needs to stick to her LACIS job, because she definitely doesn't belong in a classroom. Intimidating doesn't begin to describe her. She's vicious. I wouldn't mind telling her something but the work load is too much and I can't keep up. This is the 1st eval in my 4 yrs here at UW Im excited to write.

The teacher is intimidating during class discussions, and she sometimes chews people out; seemingly unapproachable although she is intelligent. The subject matter was not interesting to me whatsoever in her special topics class and she is a tough grader; she likes things to be extremely exact. You have to buy about a million books too which sucks.

do yourself a favor and do not EVER take a class with ksenija. she is mean and evil and often made students cry in front of class. my roommate took spanish 224 with a different prof and had a very easy, painless semester. ksenija makes this class way too difficult for an INTRO to literature class most students take as a requirement.

Spanish and literature are my two favorite subjects, but I began to despise them both in 224. She's only open to one interpretation of literature: her own. Often ridiculed students who offered diff ideas in front of class making an uncomfortable environment for participation. Very frustrating class for anyone who loves lit.

if you don't know an answer to something, she'll tear you apart in front of the class. awful. doesn't believe that things can be interpreted differently by different people. believes her answer is always the right one. if you dont like participating, don't enroll in one of her classes.

amazing, intelligent professor. you have to work, but she really makes you think outside the box. if you don't like participating, don't take a class with ksenija... but if you don't mind sharing your thoughts and discussing the readings, you'll be fine. you only get graded on 3 exams and a paper... and she's a fair grader. great professor.

She is harsh and brutal.

She is tough, but if you go to class and do the readings, she will give you some breaks. Participation, three exams, a paper, and a presentation make up the grade.

She is difficult and she makes you think. Make sure you do the readings before class or you might get chewed out in front of everyone. You do learn some valuable stuff in the class though.
