Dr. Cherwin seems like she is very knowledgable and passionate about the subject but lectures are fairly boring because she reads her slides rather than presenting them. She is not super involved in the course which makes grading and announcements pretty delayed and disorganized as most of it relies on the TA's. The class itself is great though!
Not the worst lecturer I've ever had, but the lecture sequence was incredibly disorganized and often lacked direction; the class is basically a myriad of guest lectures chopped into different "units." Content is easy though, and discussion is solely led by students which wasn't ideal. Tests were fair for the most part
Lecture is disorganized and hard to follow, discussion is led by students, mandatory but not useful. Reviews were also useless. Lots of assignments but no rubrics and TAs are not on the same page with each other or the professor.
Professor Cherwin is nice, and topics are interesting. However, lectures are very disorganized. Grading criteria is very unclear, and super picky. Nearly impossible to get full points on anything. There are a lot of assignments, which is okay as it balances out your exams. Discussions are not helpful for your exams.
A wonderful person to talk to outside of class, but not a great professor. Her lectures were very disorganized, there was rarely a set rubric to follow, she had no say in grading, some TA's "expected" beyond what the prompt asked, review lectures never helped, and exams were very specific. Discussion was fun, but had nothing to do with exams.
I do agree that at times this class can seem disorganized and the tests were hard. Overall the class topics were interesting and really enjoyed my TA Michael!
Prof Cherwin was inaccessible and unclear about course standards. She was not clear in her expectations and rarely communicated them accurately to students and had even less communication with her TAs who often had received conflicting or out-of-date information. She was often behind on grading and most of the lectures were by guests.
She does not respond to emails and there is no piazza so its virtually impossible to get in touch with her. Tests are very unclear on what you need to know
Dr. Cherwin is passionate about teaching and gives lots of guest lectures that are interesting. However, paper requirements and what will be tested on for exams is EXTREMELY UNCLEAR. i would not take this again. Discusions are super interesting and fun but do not help you for tests.
She sped through lectures, I often had to go back to lectures to finish note-taking. A majority of the lectures were given by guests. The exams were very specific and if you did poorly on the first one it was hard to recover. Generally disorganized and ineffective teaching made me dread coming to class despite the course content being interesting.
I took this class online in the Fall 2020 semester. I enjoyed the class, but was not a fan of Dr. Cherwin. The class was a complete copy & paste from the summer semester with no new content, which is meh but fine, but Dr. Cherwin also did not have any office hours and to email her you needed to email your TA first. She just seemed very disconnected
I took this class asynchronous so I did not have a lot of interactions with Professor Cherwin. Her lectures were easy to follow. She provided extra material like podcasts and other videos for lectures that were very interesting, but hard to follow sometimes. Tests were open notes, short answers, and fairly easy. There was one paper for the class.
I enjoyed Zoo 360 with her! She was easy to communicate with by email and provided a good breadth of knowledge on the subject. Since online, there were a mix of lectures and media content (podcasts & videos) which was fun and different. She had clear expectations and graded quickly. Sometimes canvas was a bit unorganized but was quickly resolved.
Karie is a very nice woman, and her lectures were clear and easy to listen to. She posts the slides online so you don't really have to show up to lecture if you don't want to, though I'd recommend it. Overall the class was easy and Karie was chill.
I took Zoo/Bio 360 and I thought it was an excellent class. Professor Cherwin always was happy to get back to emails with reasonable timing. The only reason I don't give her a 5 is because she's not a particularly skilled lecturer. However, half of the class is guest lectures and she does try.
took last year and made material very inaccessible and was not willing to give the information if asked, or often made students jump through hoops. Only lectures for 1/3 or less of lectures, but seeing other professionals was a good experience. Tests were straight forward but no study guide was given.
She is not great at public speaking and seems to be reading straight off of her computer during lectures. Because of this, she flies through lectures, usually ends 20min early, leaving you to teach yourself the content w/ the slides posted online. She doesn't really answer questions either. She responds to emails pretty fast though, so that's nice
