Prof Armstrong is awesome, hes got the right blend of uplifting and charming energy without being overbearing and annoying. Hes funny as all get out which helps break tension. In terms of grading hes a fairly easy grader, and is very reasonable and understanding when it comes to missed class days/assignments.

I took French 211 last semester, and I loved it! At first, I wasn't very enthusiastic about taking the class since it was only to fulfill a requirement, but it ended up being my favorite. Professor Armstrong is a genuine, chill guy, and he is knowledgeable on the topics we covered. The class was manageable, and I would definitely recommend it.

Super chill dude and a great professor. Funny but very knowledgable about the class content. Easy A if you attend class for attendance points, I never did the readings but could still do well on papers. Honestly what made the class was my TA (shoutout Fabian) but there's another who was awful. Usually didn't pay attention and was completely fine

Armstrong was a good professor overall, didn't make things too difficult for students. Had around 5 quizzes total, all based on what was taught during lecture -- attend lectures if you want to pass the class! Midterms were fine, mostly just papers.

Josh is an awesome prof! His class is very simple, the readings are straight forward, and the quizzes are easy if you do the readings and pay attention. This is a literature course, so expect quite a bit of reading, but I was shocked at how little writing there was for this class. Only one mid-term paper (1 page) and a final paper (2 pages).

Professor Armstrong is a great professor. Cares for his students and his thorough in directions. Would definitely recommend for a lit credit.

As of now Josh is my favorite professor I've had. He's a genuine guy that cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. He has high expectations for you, but they aren't unattainable. I took another class from him just because he was the professor. Would definitely recommend!

Readings, assignments, and grading in this class were all fine. But lectures were very haphazard - a lot of the time, Josh just talked about the readings with no slides or structure and I found it hard to participate, take notes, or even pay attention. I did not get much practice speaking French from this class. Maybe it's better in-person.

DO NOT TAKE A COURSE FROM HIM. First of all, he expects everyone to participate every day in a class of 35 students, and if you don't, you'll get a B-/C range for participation. On top of that, he grades RIDICULOUSLY hard on essays. Get ready to get a B- or a C if you're used to getting A's.

Josh is one of, and I cannot stress this enough, the BEST professors I have had at Madison. He loves his students, he loves the material, and he's reasonable. Get ready to put in the work, though. You get what you work for.

This is a fun class. He won't overwhelm you with homework. Fair grader and easy to talk to!

Josh is a great guy, has clear guidelines and expectations, and is a moderate grader. If you put in the work and show up to class, you will get the grade you deserve. Excellent command of the French language and so nice. Occasionally cancels class for a conference. Totally recommend him!

Josh is by far my favorite prof that I'd had yet, especially in French. This class does have a lot of reading (that you pretty much actually have to do), but it doesn't feel so bad because coming to lecture is enjoyable. He discusses the material thoroughly and keeps it entertaining, and will make sure you understand what's going on.

Josh is great! His class is just the right amount of work. He assigns homework every night, but he doesn't usually check for completion and you can definitely get by not doing it a lot of days. He's a very easy grader, but participation is definitely a requirement- he will call you out if you don't speak. Overall, it's not hard to get a good grade.

Reading-based class - very little homework other than to do your assigned reading which he doesn't check. Tests are based mainly on concepts discussed in class. Be able to at least B.S. your reading and you'll be fine. Couple papers. Very kind and understanding but reasonable teacher. Easy to understand. Would definitely take again

Very disorganized, which markedly affects the quality of the class. I would not take this class again. It is very difficult to meet with him in office hours. He's not a bad person, and he likes his subject, but he's just not a good professor.

He seems like a coolgood person but he's definitely not the best professor. He was really unorganized, slow at responding to emails and putting the homework assignments up on Moodle. The class seemed to be very unengaged throughout the semester and there is just a general air of disinterest in class which could also be attributed to the books.
