This is my 2nd class with Dr.bowling. I truly believe he cares about his students and likes what he does but god this class is so boring. And honestly I feel like he has a very convoluted and biased view of history. This leaks over into the content and requirements for assignments in the course. His grading system is also incredibly strict.

Prof. Bowling teaches the Introduction to Marxism FIG. The class is graded extremely leniently, but the value that you get from taking this FIG depends on the effort that you put in. The FIG is extremely rewarding and you will learn a lot of things that will change your perspective on many issues often missed in university settings in the US.

I literally never went to class and still did well. You dont need to really read any of the books assigned, and I didn't watch half the movies. A few big assignments make up most of the grade but expectations were super clear and grading was fair as long as you met the rubric. Definitely recommend this class for easy Lit credit.

I have Prof. Bowling for ENGL 241 and omfg I am bored to death every day. The content is a little dull, but his VOICE. It's incredibly monotone and he talks slower than the sloth from Zootopia. He definitely knows his stuff, but often goes into history lessons rather than analyze the text at hand, making papers harder. My TA saved me fr.

Heavy lecture class where participation is not mandatory. Lots of reading material but if you do not get to all of it it is not the end of the world. A lot of freedom is given to students in terms of when the papers are due and what they are about. Highly recommend his class!

Very easy class, books and movies were surprisingly interesting. You can definitely get by without doing too much, but the material relates back to lectures, discussions, and essays. All lectures were posted, Prof talks a little slow, so x2 speed will be your bff. Overall, Prof Bowling made a somewhat slow class very entertaining.

The topic for my class was very boring, but the class itself is not challenging. Weekly discussion posts and 2-3 short papers. I did not attend a single lecture but discussions were engaging. I was able to do fine without reading or watching much of the material.

Bowling's Intro to Marx class is a great introduction to theory and covers so many important political philosophers! We were graded on two papers and a group presentation. Bowling is also a very understanding and flexible professor -- he will adjust the schedule to meet the class's needs.

You can tell he enjoys teaching this class, and lectures enhance understanding of the material. Was a fun class to take.

He is a really kind, knowledgeable guy. I took this class as it was offered once a week from 4-6:30 and I could never focus. He is lecture heavy and there wasn't a whole lot of discussion which I didn't enjoy. We were graded on three source studies (structure, character, language), a proposal, and a final essay, and we can revise the first two.

If you're looking for an easy English class, take this one. Three papers and weekly informal analysis writings, discussion once a week, and no mandatory lecture attendance. Dr. Bowling is a great lecturer and was interesting to listen to. I enjoyed reading/watching the material for the class, but you don't have to as long as you get the gist.

The class was based on a few formal and informal assignments that were all connected. You did not need to read all the books but you did need to know the general information. Take this class if you need some credit. Discussion is mandatory but it was not met very often, only when needed.

Professor Bowling is what an introductory English professor should be like. There are only 3 papers in 176, and you will probably write it about The Office (show) or Office Space (movie), so they aren't tedious and actually kind of fun to write, especially if you enjoy film. Easy class, would recommend for anyone looking to fulfill English credit.

Bowling is a nice professor and clearly is passionate about the content he is teaching. The class was graded on 3 papers and weekly discussions, none of which were graded too harshly. The lectures themselves are quite boring in my opinion, but going to them is purely optional as none of the homework relates to the lectures at all.

Bowling is sweet, cares a lot about the English language and film/books. The films/shows are super entertaining and all you have to do in the class is make disc posts and 3 larger papers. Homework is literally watching movies or shows and some reading once in a while. Lectures are pretty boring, he talks the whole time but sections can be fun.

I see a lot of reviews rating the content of the class poorly, but it seems he's changed the direction of his course from previous terms. The content is about how most workplaces and jobs aren't actually necessary and can be filled with greed, sexism, and unfairness. Readings were always short and interesting. Passionate and captivating lectures.

I did not attend many lectures, and the course was still an easy A. Listen to the feedback on your first essay, then the remaining two will be easy. Class is 60% essays, 20% participation, and 20% pass/fail written responses.

ENG176 is easy and not a lot of assignments, but a lot of shows/movies and books/articles to read. There are 3 large papers the whole semester and a discussion post roughly once a week, so really not much work. NO PROJECTS OR EXAMS, JUST THE PAPERS. The stuff you learn is boring but the books and movies are interesting. Bowling is very sweet too.

One of my favorite professors. He's a little shy and quiet, but he definitely knows what he's talking about. You really have to pay attention in class to understand the dense material but he does a good job. He genuinely cares about his students and constantly asks for feedback to make class more interesting/engaging. Decently light work load also.

Prof. Bowling did a pretty good job teaching this course. The films and literature selected were interesting for the most part. The weekly assignments weren't always the most helpful but do force you to engage in the material. The expectations are set and explained within the first week. The TA I had gave good feedback and communicated well.

Prof. Bowling did a great job teaching this class. His lectures can be a bit dense, but fun if you make an effort to participate. Halfway through the semester he asked us for feedback and then implemented it right away; really seems to care about his students. Graded on two essays and weekly participation in an online discussion board.

I took Topics in Film & Lit hoping for an easy lit credit, and this class was a breeze. 3 SHORT papers and weekly discussion posts and you're golden. Dr. Bowling walks you through EXACTLY what he's looking for in strong papers, and is overall a great teacher. Very caring, and very easy-going. I took another class with him the next semester.

It's easy to be lulled to sleep by his monotone voice, but he seems to care about his students. I wouldn't search him out just to take a class taught by him, but I would be optimistic knowing he was my professor. Lot of sex books though...

If you are reading this, don't do what I did and ignore a lot of the reviews. I can only speak for ENGL 176, but this class is weird. Bad weird. I took a film class in HS expecting it to be similar. You barely watch any movies, and the ones you do watch are so so strange. Worse, the books you read are extremely convoluted and incomprehensible.

Dr. Bowling is a quiet guy, but very sweet and intelligent. His lectures are not posted online, so take good notes. ENG176 content mostly science fiction. not my cup of tea; wasn't too interesting. Papers aren't that awful - there were 3. easy/harsh grading really depends on your TA. Study and take good notes and the final is a breeze.

Signed up for a class called "Themes in theatre and literature". Sounded easy enough. Well, little did I know, the theme was "Bodies, machines, and desires", essentially robots and sex. The material wasn't all bad and Bowling tried to make it interesting, but I didn't enjoy it.
