This class is taught by a team, and compared to the last professor he took the reins from, all I can say is I miss the old professor. It is very clear each prof teaches entirely their own way so be ready to adjust your study methods fast 5 times throughout the semester. Kenoyer goes through his slides v fast for the UNGODLY amount of info present.
Dr. Kenoyer is a super knowledgeable guy, but assigns insane amounts of readings to do weekly. He doesn't facilitate group discussion very well and I didn't always feel comfortable asking questions. I wouldn't recommend his ceramics seminar if you aren't specifically super interested in ceramic technology or Indus Valley. Playing with clay was fun.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH KENOYER IF YOU CAN!! I took archaeological ceramic analysis with him this semester and we mostly talked about his own research. Unless you are interested in pottery or Harappa not worth your time. The SEMINAR was 2 hours of lecture looking at the readings he provides notes for, no use in reading them.
Kenoyer's lecture slides are filled with a ton of information, making it hard to take notes in class. Taking notes on the condensed PDFs that he posts and going to discussions should suffice. Skip the readings; they're unnecessary despite him claiming that they're important. The exam is fine but he does a poor job of emphasizing what's important.
The worst professor Ive ever had. Sitting through his lectures is the most boring thing Ive ever had to do. He teaches solely on his opinion, rather than scientific fact. Asks ridiculous questions and then laughs at you if you answer the question wrong. If this class wasnt required for my major, I wouldve dropped it already.
He says things like 'what' and 'where' with h sounds like 'hhhhwear' so that already makes me want to not listen to him. He basically just stands up there and blabs about stuff and asks questions. If you get it wrong he'll just blatantly say that's wrong, say the right answer and keep speaking. Very boring, his voice makes you want to fall asleep
Prof. Kenoyer is one of a few prof's who teach this class segment by segment, but his section's lectures were confusing because of the amount of information presented, and the amount expected to be known. He did provide a notes sheet which compiled the information a little better, but overall a decent professor.
He was 1 of 5 lecturers but was easily the worst one because of his teaching methods. He knows what he's talking about, but his lectures threw lots of material at you and weren't very easy to comprehend or apply. Also, I never read the readings because of how long they were; just download the pdf notes and take a few extra notes of your own!
Anthropology 120 could be a fun course if the professor's personality was more agreeable. There is one research paper that counts for most of your grade. You have the chance to use his lab for research, and throughout the year, you get to do projects like working with clay and rocks. Every week about 100 pages of really dry reading was required.
Took his fig, which was anthro 120 or Ancient Tech, Gender, and Environment. Very reading heavy. No tests, almost like a shop class where you make an ancient technology and then write a paper. He was pretty harsh and a lot of people didn't like him. Try to stay on his good side and and don't ask him about climate change. Big mistake.
Dr. Kenoyer was 1 of 5 instructors for Anthro 102. His slides were cluttered and had HUGE amounts of information. Readings were very advanced, and while interesting, very time consuming to glean just small bits of information. Test is reasonable but was very difficult to figure out which of the 100000 facts we needed to know
Was 1/5 professors for Anthro 102. The worst of all of them, by far. Presentations aren't clear and are SO FAST. Supplementary notes that he provides are not helpful. Not a reason to not take 102 because it is overall a good class, but DO NOT take another class where he is the main professor.
I liked his TAs because they were very nice and complemented me. I wished prof showed the same. He likes to giggle about students doing something wrong and isn't as nice as the TAs when my friends and I make a mistake. SIZEAAA
Kenoyer takes teaching Kendo seriously. Midterm is straight from his lectures. Final performance is heavily graded on how loud you can scream. Participation is a big factor on final grade because everybody does well on the exams. Emphasis on safety and self-control but still lots of hand/feet blisters, bruises, and dead skin in used kendo armor.
Clearly knows a lot about the subject, but throws too much material at you in lecture and his notes. His readings are very long and boring. Print out his notes and go through them with a TA, they should be able to tell you what you really need to know for the test.
Great professor. Lots of long readings but never really read any. Had two slideshow presentations about topic of choice that we had to do during the semester but very easy. 2 papers (midterm and final.) Each had 3 ques you need to answer about 1 page each ques. All papers were take home!!! Very intelligent man and very understanding.
Professor knows a lot about the topics he teaches but fails to connect it to students in a way that is comprehendible. Reading are ridiculously long and are not gone over in discussion. Tests you on details from lectures and readings. Says there "won't be specific dates on the exam" and there was. Dense material on early primates. Avoid Kenoyer.
HIs lectures are dry and hard to follow. He says the reading is mandatory, but it's not, so don't do it because they are so long. His exams are fair, but you really have to memorize the study guide to get an A. I won't take another one of his classes.
This class is team taught, and Kenoyer's section is fairly dense. He specializes in the Indus Region and Middle-East so he enjoys lecturing, but goes into a lot of detail. The assigned readings are scholarly and lengthy. The material tested is specific to lecture and readings, but there aren't any trick questions. Very clear on how he grades exams
The guy knows what he's talking about, but expects you to be at a level that is far beyond a 102 class. Throws loads of information on you that you may or may not need to know (I'm still trying to figure it out). Readings are ridiculously hard. He's also condescending. 3 professors teach the class though so it's 515 weeks he's there.
Kenoyer taught the third section of this class. He was much tougher than the other two professors prior. He assigned way too many readings that were over everyone's heads. The test was not horrible, the only hard part was the short answer. Overall, I did well in the class, but if he was the first professor I would have considered dropping.
Enjoyed kendo with this professor very much, he was very helpful. As long as you show that you are taking the course seriously and not being half-assed, you should be fine.
Kenoyer's lectures are packed with a LOT of information. He also gives out lecture notes, which were so overwhelming I never really looked at them. His exam, along with Nam's material, was a disaster. It's essay and short answer. The short answer questions were next to impossible. I got a 75 on his exam (avg was not good) and I studied for days.
You have to train in barefoot, thus you are very likely to get blister, open injury, or athlete's foot by taking this Kendo class. Talking about the professor, he and his TAs are not very kind, nor with much patience; also he has a arbitrary, grading standard for final performance, which make this class even more difficult.
I thought he was a really great professor. Super helpful, prints off notes for you. Know the stuff on his print offs, pay attention to what he talks about in lecture and his test will be easy. It's super straight forward and covers stuff that you should know and isn't tricky.
Do not need to attend lectures, but he throws a lot of material at you, so don't wait until the night before the test to start studying. If you look over his review sheets consistently, and read the book chapters, the exam is easy. He doesn't try to trick you, the questions are straight from the reading and review sheets
Required class to know too much information. Gave too many useless dates and sites that we needed to memorize. His exam was pretty hard.
He taught the 3rd section of the class and ended up teaching the 4th section as well. How unfortunate. Lectures were painfully dull and although he provided outlines, there were too many specific facts and dates to memorize. I went to every lecture and studied and still ended up with a C.
Prof Kenoyer cruises through information, and even though he posts lecture notes online I would still recommend go to lecture. The test was extremely hard, I studied for a week and got a C. Considering you have to take Kenoyer if you sign up for Anthro 100 I would just recommend staying away from the class all together.
The exam pretty much sucked. And his lectures are boring and posted online so there is really no point in going. And he seems kind of arrogant.
Very disorganized lecturer and overloads you with too much material. His notes, which he substitutes for books, are poorly constructed to the point where it is hard to figure out what he wants you to know. I'd stay away if you have other options.
Class is very boring and like others said, overloads you with information. Focuses on his area of expertise (Southeast India) more than necessary.
Horrible professor. His lectures are useless. There are no major concepts. Thousands of facts and now review material. Horrible. He should be in the field rather than in the class room.
Provides WAY too much information; lectures are very hard to follow and its almost impossible to pick up on the key concepts. Talks about unnecessary topics and does not make you feel confident with the material.
Boring power points. Very disorganized. Goes over stuff too quickly, but notes are online. Says no specific dates on exam: LIE! Difficult exam.
Wrote me a letter of recommendation years after I graduated. Much more fun if you also participate in martial arts with him.
Arrogant, Pompous teacher. Wants you to know way too much information about a subject you obviously don't care about outside of getting a decent grade, which won't be easy. Teaches the class as if it were a 300 level course. Pray for a good TA.
He provided a ton of information and gave an extremely vague outlook for the test. The test was very hard and he asked questions on unimportant details. Warning you if you take him be ready to know EVERYTHING about archaeology and even stuff he doesn't tell you. he also does not test you on major concepts and things he tells you are important.

He's very unclear
This prof is challenging, you will probably not remember half of the stuff he throws at you. On the other hand, there is so much information that if you keep up, you'll be farther ahead than people who took an "easier" prof.
a LOT of reading, but provided you keep up with them, you should do fine on the exams. that said, the exams are not a walk in the park either, but they are very fair.
He is very knowledgeable and so prepared. He is very helpful if you go to office hours. His tests are hard, but for the most part they are fair. His maps are killer though, they are so hard.
Nice guy, but your head will explode with all the info he gives you. His tests involve a lot of writing/details and you definitely get drowsy in his lectures.

Smart guy, but doesnt think on the level of the students, and the curve for tests is really horrible. Its a distribution curve where only certain amount of people can get an A, so ur competing with other students.. lots info to remember too
