This class has a reputation for being brutal although it wasn't too harsh from my experience. finished with an AB, curved from about an 83%. Multiple choice question on exams are pretty unreasonable in my opinion but the free response that makes up the majority is very similar to the white packet exercises. Fully TA taught course, I had a good one.
Class taught by TAs in their 20s who don't know whats going on. Tests are nothing like the practice you do in class and are made to stump you---on top of that there are zero practice tests. Took nothing away from the class. On top of everything attendance is mandatory. Absolutely miserable class its a shame its mandatory for all business majors.
Feels unfair giving a 2, but ACCT 100 is completely taught by TA's. I've only seen her once during a test, but she seemed nice during that brief interaction. As for the class, I found it ok (although I enjoy accounting and that is rare for people who take this class). Be ready to go to EVERY lecture and read the book, or you will get a D/F.
Entire class was taught by the TAs, the accounting "lectures" are really just a 30 student discussion with a TA- success in this class is largely dependent on having a good TA and being willing to read the textbook, do practice problems outside of class, and learn the material independently. I never saw Joanna once throughout the semester.
This class is fully TA-taught, and Joanna does not do anything for the course except write the exams. There is a disconnect between the TA's and Joanna, and the exams are different from the content presented in class. She doesn't seem to be involved with the course at all, and your success in the course is entirely based on your TA.
If you take this class online, make sure you don't have a life for six weeks. Overall, not too bad but once it starts to get confusing it never stops!
This class is the bane of my existence. The sheer amount of content involved in this class is way too much for a 3 credit class. I would recommend to never take this class, but unfortunately, it is required for every business major. To succeed you need to read the textbook very thoroughly every week, and utilize the practice problems.
Joanna is a great professor, and she cares about her students. This class is Accounting 100, but harder. Most of the grade is based on exams and quizzes. Pay attention to the information on her slides, and don't try to focus on stuff that's not. The first exam has the lowest average so try to do good and you will set yourself up.
Like others said, very content heavy. Class is completely based off of the textbook, and you will have to read every chapter thoroughly. Exams are fairly difficult, but they are pretty manageable if you study in advance. Prof is super nice and gives plenty of practice problems to prepare for quizzes and exams and is super responsive to emails.
This is a very difficult class, with quiz/exam averages typically hovering in the low 60's. Luckily, it is curved. The content is not difficult but there is a LOT to learn in a small amount of time. Get ready to pour hours into this class. Read the textbook thoroughly every single week. The majority of the grade is made up of exams and quizzes.
Class is 100% TA taught. Way too much content for a 3-credit class. Most of the content is relatively simple and straightforward, but the sheer volume is overwhelming. Lots of random stuff to memorize. Exams accurately reflect in-class work and homework.
ACCT 100 is exclusively TA taught. My TA Josh was great and very helpful to learning the content. Class is a little difficult towards the end, but I had prior knowledge from accounting class in high school. Make sure to study for exams though. Class is curved pretty heavily.
she's racist straight up, if have some melanin dont go to office hours
Class is TA based, thankfully I had a good TA. Though she doesn't teach, I have spoken with Wangerin and she is very kind/understanding. Class is incredibly hard, I thought I understood something then did awful on the tests/quizzes. Content-heavy lectures move faster than I can process. Even my TA took the exams and said they were hard for her.
This class is entirely taught by TAs, which means you better hope you get lucky with a good TA. Difficult content but the curve is heavy. Practicing and reading are necessary to succeed in this class.
Was excited about accounting coming into the class and now I despise it. Hardest exams I've seen. I was optimistically hoping for an A going into the final exam so I strictly studied accounting for 4 days straight (strenuous, difficult, meaningful studying), and still did not get an A on the final exam. Terribly hard exams even for top students.
worst professor ever. never wanting to get near accounting after this class. you won’t even see her other then the canvas announcements. awful class, currently have a 40% (same with all my friends or better)
Joanna doesn't teach anything or is involved with classes. Completely TA taught. Only thing Joanna does is make impossibly tough exams and quizzes for students to do in unfeasible time frames. Accounting shouldn't be about memorizing for a 2 hour exam, instead demonstrating understanding through real world application. Unfortunate this is required.
Joanna is the course coordinator for Accounting 100, so she creates the tests and quizzes (that are very difficult). This class is mandatory for business majors. Know that you will need to dedicate a very significant amount of time to learn the concepts well enough to succeed in the class. She designs the course to be unnecessarily difficult.
Super hard class however the curve is huge. Ended with a 42% and still got a C. It sucks that its a prerequisite but you will pass.
Legit the hardest class Ive taken so far. I dont want anything to do with accounting after this. Good luck yall.
The hardest class I have ever taken. I have only seen Joanna once in my life because the class is taught by a TA. It was absolute hell. Fifteen-page exams. I'm praying for y'all who have to take this as a prerequisite.
Accounting 100 has been the hardest class I've taken here at UW (and I've taken Chem AND Calc II). My TA taught all of the lectures and I only saw Wangerin once when she sat in on one of the first classes. The material itself seems fine when in class, but the readings are strenuous and the exams are incredibly difficult.
Joanna seems very nice, but TAs take on the majority of teaching for the class. Did not interact with her at all other can canvas announcements. She is accommodating for exam conflicts though. Expectations for class are clear. There is a lot of homework and reading to do, but manageable if you can commit the time to do so. TAs are very friendly.
She is so nice and clearly knows a lot about the subject! She will make time to discuss anything that you need and is so understanding. I really enjoyed this class. Even with this class being online, I felt like I learned a lot, which doesn't normally happen.
Joanna was a great professor. She was great at teaching and explaining the material in an easy to understand way. She was incredibly helpful and kind.
Joanna is a very caring professor who really wants her students to learn. She is really accessible outside of class and is extremely understanding of how accounting makes you suffer lol. She makes the tough concepts understandable. 13/10 recommend her!
Joanna is AMAZING. She cares about her students, and her gradings are fair and reasonable. I did poorly on the first exam, so I decided to attend her office hour, and let me tell you, she is the best when it comes to explaining the hard concepts. Her lectures are great, and I would recommend going to them. Take her; you will never regret it.
Joanna really cares about how her students are doing in terms of grades and understanding. She is a very fair professor (rounds homework up, looks at exams and cases herself to make sure they are graded fairly), is great at explaining everything, and is always available for help. This class is tough, but Joanna makes it easier and enjoyable.
