He is one of the best lecturers I've had, he really has a certain way of making you want to listen! He doesn't overcomplicate things and as long as you show up to lectures and discussions then you're set. He does yap on about news headlines A LOT during lectures though (bit annoying sometimes).
Super easy class and Jim is a nice guy who wants to help! Whoever says Jim is too easy and they don't learn anything, go think and actually try to understand why things work the way they do instead of simply trying to get good grades. You get what you put in!
Nice guy, don't have to do much for this class.
Shovein is a great prof and is like a dad (he gives life advice and gets you prepared for the real world). The class itself is hw (free points) and exams (3 midterms and cumulative final). The discussion probs are way harder than exams, i'd stick to cengage hw probs. The exams are pretty easy. He doesn't curve or round grades tho.
Professor Shovein is the rookie Finance 300 professor here at UW. The general advice is to take Mark LaPlante if you're majoring in finance and thus need to get a strong foundation in these principles. If you're simply taking the course to propitiate the requirement, take James Shovein as he goes less in depth. However, you will still need to work.
Shovein made finance, something not common sense, digestible and easy. His tests mimic lecture material. Even though lectures weren't mandatory they were entertaining and useful. He is a great professor and you are stupid if you take this class with anyone else.
Shovein is a clear, crisp, and concise professor. His teaching style lays a remarkable foundation for an introductory finance course. He also genuinely cares about his students. He is eager to help if there's anything you don't grasp, as long as you invest the time and effort. I recommend him to anyone! He is PHENOMENAL!
