Dr. Casid is obviously very knowledgeable in her field of study and teachings. I found that I enjoyed their class, but the lectures were a little hard to follow occasionally because of the format (long paragraphs, no bullet points). The course was extremely eye-opening and definitely developed more critical thinking skills.

Jill was knowledgeable and friendly, but taking a class with Jill is essentially a caricature of the liberal indoctrination that Fox News has convinced your dad occurs in every college classroom in the country.

Jill Casid uses the word genocide incorrectly and in the wrong context. Additionally, I was shocked she tied current events into an art HISTORY course. She also threatened students with a grade reduction if they disagreed with her.

I don't recommend taking this class. The readings are super long and unnecessary, and the slides don't help clarify anything. The projects all have confusing prompts that don't make sense. Attendance is mandatory. I took this class for the ethnic studies requirement, but there are definitely many more interesting courses with better professors.

Dr. Casid is a decent professor who cares a lot about her students. She does have lecture participation points that make lectures mandatory but they aren't too bad, she just reads off her powerpoint slides. The projects were very doable and didn't take a lot of effort. I would recommend this class for the ethnic studies gen ed credit.

Casid types out long paragraphs on slides and reads directly off of them during mandatory lecture. There is no time to take notes, no explanations of any concepts, and the first assignment has only been mentioned by name. I'm afraid this class is a bust.

DO NOT take this class if you are someone in touch with the real world. Many of the required readings and videos for the class are extremely unprofessional. The class deeply struggles to intertwine all its content (nothing has anything to do with what you do in the next class), and the professor is obviously unprepared for the lectures.

AH130 is one of the easier Comm-B credits you can take. Dr.Casid is a great person, but not a good lecturer. Readings were dense, but just skim them for lecture. Projects were kind of hard, but Comm-B does automatic revisions for them. No quizzes, just lecture & discussion attendance & participation plus 3 projects all semester.

I would strongly urge NOT taking this course. In theory the readings are thoughtful, and the concepts are interesting, but there's little to no organization for assignments, and noticeable unprofessionalism in lectures. Overall, for how much the class is oriented around communicaton; it GREATLY lacks instruction to achieve a good grade!!

Professor Casid is incredibly talented but not a great teacher. I went to every lecture for a semester and I genuinely do not feel like I gained anything. This class had incredibly dense readings that didn't further my understanding of the concepts presented and lectures were long and boring. I wouldn't recommend this as an art history class.

I have so much respect for Casid. They are the most brilliant professor I've ever had and has been instrumental in shaping my career trajectory. Their vocabulary is expansive and the readings are dense, but taking your time with this class will prove very rewarding. Casid is extremely empathetic and truly wants the best for all their students.

This class was all about accessibility, which is ironic. She shamed student presenters and assigned incredibly dense, long readings. The readings were hardly ever discussed in class. The cherry on top was the tone-deaf assignments. We had to create a project based on "the closest we have ever been to disabled." Triggering and problematic.

Really smart and knows her stuff. Unfortunately this means she seems to genuinely not get how difficult the material can be, even when students ask for help. If you're not already familiar with Queer Theory, plus the densest academic language I've ever encountered, either skip her or prep for headaches from both the readings and her lectures.

Use term "professor" lightly. Does not make herself available for students to the extent that a professor at her level must, all office hours are up for grab at the beginning of the semester. UW is fortunate to have her expertise in the field, however a famous name cannot make up for crappy teaching.

Prof Casid is super nice, but her vocabulary is huge and pretty much EVERYTHING in the class/readings went over my head. But somehow I did really well on the exams even though I had little idea of what I was talking about. She's a pretty easy grader, but the class itself isn't great if you have no interest in art history. Sign-in attendance.

Casid is an absolute genius. I had her for "Queer Theory Visual Culture" and if you don't know anything about queer theory, the readings are very challenging. I constantly felt lost throughout the semester, but luckily the grade was based on attendance, 2 papers and a presentation. She is an easy grader.

She's very intelligent, has an insane vocabulary, and is a good professor overall. Some lectures are very interesting and others are extremely boring. Exams are super easy, she literally hands the exam to you the day before you take it. She plays music for the first 10 mins of lecture, that's nice! Also she has a HILARIOUS laugh (you'll see...)

I have Professor Casid right now and she is super nice and always willing to answer questions. She is a little hard to understand sometimes because her vocab is so expansive. As long as you attend lecture and go over the study guides really well, the class is fine. She brings up a lot of interesting concepts and ideas that make you think.

I took a proseminar on Baroque with Jill Casid and I can't say enough about how much I learned. It was fascinating to read about the philosophy of 'the other.' I knew very little about them before her class. She opened my work to visual culture and I will always respect her for that. Very intelligent. Top notch professor in every way.

Had her in a FIG: huge mistake! Why put freshmen into a course with mostly graduate students? Lectures were terribly boring. Doesn't speak clearly or in complete sentences, & she dealt more with the essay writers than the photos themselves. Says "um" alot. Focuses on taboo subjects, not Ansel Adams or Warhol. Just learn 1 essay & review sheet well!

Highly provocative and always professional.

Very intimidating at first, but is very personable and quite helpful once you get to know her. She's extremely intelligent and willing to help you at any time. Assignments are difficult and unclear sometimes, readings are a joke.
