This professor is by far one of the worst in the bio department. Jeremiah Yahn is a very arrogant person overall, and his tests are NOT representative of the immense amount of material covered in lecture. His tests tend to extrapolate, and some of the questions are just designed to be missed by all students. Switch lecture ASAP if you get him.

Jer teaches all the biology lectures he does because he genuinely loves what he teaches. He gives optional more materials to learn about but keeps it clear that its not going to be on exams, and the stuff he teaches are actually very interesting and fun.

He was fine... I mean overall he was funny and easier to listen to than professor Blair (who did the first 2 sections). However, slideshows were messy and hard to understand what we needed to know. I probably should have read the text, but I didn't and still got an A. Note than his exam will be MUCH harder than Blair's (aka the last exam).

I really liked Dr. Yahn's lectures, I felt as though he taught for students understanding rather than just exam preparation. He started out each lecture with a narrative that was quite applicable and interesting. I would definitely recommend going to office hours as the key to understanding the course material was to go over what was in lecture.

Rude and inconsiderate, no grace on late assignments/extenuating circumstances

Bio 151 can catch a lot of students off guard because there is a decent amount of work needed to be successful. Dr. Yahn is quite good at using the given learning targets when writing the tests, so be sure to study those! Also be sure to attend lecture+discussion, it really helps.

Jeremiah is a pretty good lecturer, however, I found him to be rude and disorganized when it came to dealing with students.

Attendance taken through TopHat which is accessible anywhere. Jere is an ok teacher, I just don't like his slides because it's basically only diagrams (which is very unhelpful when studying). However, if you download them on powerpoint you can see his lec notes. Compared to Blair though he's not as good.

Jer is a very dedicated professor and is truly interested in the topics he teaches. Lectures are fast paced, but have all the information you will be tested on (don't read the textbook). He is very responsive and super accommodating. If you pay attention during lectures and complete the Lecture Learning Objective before tests you can do well.

Jer is interesting, passionate, and thoughtful. You can hear his love for the subjects in his lectures and he teaches efficiently and effectively. I've learned so much in just a month. On top of that, he is so understanding and helpful when talking to each of his students, even though he has 900+. I definitely recommend him and his course!!

Professor Yahn prepares students poorly for the final exam and doesn't explain things in a way that gives students an understanding of the content. Professor Yahn comes off as rude to the TAs as he yelled at one of them condescendingly in front of all the students right before the final.

The main problem is that for bio151 jer begins to teach the last module after we've all been used to seth's teaching style. he goes very fast and the info on the slides isn't very helpful. i stopped going to lecture to do the notes on my own bc it was more productive. tough to learn in the style he teaches in.

Dr. Yahn does not understand how to relay information to students in an effective way. He says things are 'simple' when they are not for the average student in intro bio. HHe is unable to break things down. Teaches a ridiculous amount of content and expects you to know it in depth after little time. Only teaches what he thinks is interesting.

Jer fits way too much animal physiology in a short period of time, and it's impossible to keep up.

Definitely not as bad as these reviews make him out to be. Lecture presentations are not the clearest but he sends out list of terms to know and core concepts are clearly stated. Some tricky (very specific or detailed) exam questions but overall fair assessor of material. Alright guy.

Jer is a really nice dude and great to talk to in office hours. His lectures could definitely be more specific in terms of outlining content that you will be tested on, though. His section of Bio 151 is very dense and covers a lot of specific information, so be prepared to study. That being said, I think his current rating is a bit harsh.

Jer is a good lecturer and wrote fair exams. His quizzes were ludicrously difficult but worth almost nothing. Labs were easy but boring, probably due to the online format. Some of the 151 projects are ridiculous but I think that's on the coordinators. Coordinators also didn't alter the class to better suit online format

Dr. Yahn is experienced but lacks true understanding as to what his students actually need. Throughout his lectures, he kept on saying that things were pretty self-explanatory, even though they weren't, which was invalidating in some senses. He talks on the lecture videos but then waits till the end of the slides to show the content.

Based on the previous reviews, I think Dr. Yahn did a pretty great job this semester. His lectures were fun and easy to watch, but if you dont watch them you wont pass. Some of the questions on the quizzes and exams were a little difficult, but thats expected. Overall, I really enjoyed watching his lectures and I thought he did a good job.

Overall very rude professor, he's the type to say your asking a stupid question. Makes snarky remarks making the learning environment very hostile. He should not be working in education.

Jer was the course coordinator and lecturer for the last portion of the class. Grading guidelines are pretty unclear with some assignments and exams/quizzes were challenging and involved. He used lectures from last semester which were hard to follow at times, and he did not post clarifying information. To succeed re watch videos and do well in lab.

Luckily Kahn academy had a few of the sections

Horrible professor and rude person in general. I have encountered countless students that have similar awful experiences with him. Regarding lectures, he expects entry-level biology students to develop a DETAILED mastery of the entirety of human physiology in less than a month of lectures and course material.

The amount of information he throws at you is insane. He also gives little to no instruction to what you are actually going to get tested on.

He seems like a really nice guy but I don't particularly like his style of teaching. It was straight out of the textbook and felt very dry. Final exam this semester was supposedly easier than the past but I still didn't do well. Not the worst prof, but certainly not the best.

He truly wants to help his students. Final Exam was super fair. Truly loves the material and can be quite fun in office hours (he even offered me hot cheetos.) The class itself has many components so make sure you're on top of your email. The only qualms I have is with the grade distribution in this class.

Professor Yahn clearly wants to provide his students with a LOT of content during their time in intro bio. His lectures are extremely detailed with even more content attached to his online powerpoints. Quizzes and tests reflect the amount of course content, but I feel if you take detailed notes and ask questions in office hours you will survive.

Not the greatest but doesn't deserve a 1.5 rating. The amount of material is ridiculous but could be from the structure of the course, not him specifically. He improved his teaching as the section went on. He tried to help focus learning with a terms list. The poor wording on the exams/quizzes meant free points. Don't go to the review, pointless.

I had him for the third part of 151 after gilroy and he doesnt even compare. He says you have to read the book. His lectures are hard to take notes on. Hes not clear with whats on the test

Focuses too much on powerpoint slides. Basically covered the whole human anatomy and physiology in 1 exam which was really hard. Thinks we are doctors, difficult exam questions. If you like hard-core memorizing and difficult problems, he's your guy.

Jer is probably the worst lecturer I've ever encountered. Granted, it was his first time lecturing, but I have experienced other new lecturers who were much better. He would give us incorrect information and too much information on the slides that didn't correlate with the exam. He gave us no study materials either. He has no idea how to teach.

This was his first time lecturing at UW and you could definitely tell. No way to study for his exam (no study materials at all). Also, his exams are worded so confusingly that he had to regrade the exam and consider only some of the many questions he worded so poorly.

Good luck with this clown of a professor. For 151, you will have Seth Blair for the first two tests. I pulled easy A's with him, and then came along this clown "Jer." Even though he has a doctorate degree, he makes powerpoint like he's never seen on his life. He once said that he had Imposter Syndrome in grad school, but he's actually just stupid.

Avoid at all cost, he doesnt actually teach! The content is heavy, slides are in great details, while the exam is totally off the slides!

Jer constantly contradicts himself and doesn't make it clear what is the right answer. When TAs and students point out his mistakes, he ignores them and doesn't specify what information is wrong. His slides are unhelpful and do not correlate with anything learned in previous human anatomy classes. WORST PROFESSOR AT UW!!!

jer is a fun lecturer, but we only had him for 14 lectures and he went through every single system in the body (respiratory, endocrine, etc.) in great detail when the exam is only 50 multiple choice questions. he goes through everything in way too much detail then goes back and says you just need to know this, so what is expected can be confusing

Jer does not actually teach during lectures. He merely clicks through slides showing diagrams of what you need to know for exams. He gives you the information that you need to know in the notes section of powerpoints, but you have to learn it all by yourself. He seems knowledgable, but not very confident.
