TOUGH EXAM GRADER! I have never experienced exam grading this ridiculous. Also lots of homework with terrible solutions. No practice exams to study from and the exam practice sets are very unhelpful. Lectures are too focused on derivations and concepts and not focused enough on example problems and applications.
Although this was by far the hardest class I have taken at this university, Professor Detlor did an amazing job structuring and teaching this class. Her notes made understanding the content from the textbook a lot easier. Her exams can be quite challenging but if you just go over the notes and hw questions you'll do just fine. Definitely recommend!
Professor Detlor was a decent teacher for fluids. However, this class was the literal bane of my existence during this semester. We have homework due two days before every exam and 5 days after. I do not have enough time to study! The exams are so difficult and there are too many of them. Please give me more time to study so I can succeed.
Awesome professor, just gets a little too far into the details (derivations can be a little much) and gives very hard tests with very little partial credit.
The class was pretty hard, but I can't blame Professor Detlor for that. She really tried to switch up course content and give lectures that included real life examples and plenty of small problems of all different types. While she isn't the best, she is far from the worst, and really cares about students and trying to make class good for us.
Jennifer is great at explaining things clearly and concisely and is very caring and understanding. One of my favorite professors!
Dr. Detlor taught online statics, she was caring and available for questions and really wanted to help you learn. She is a joy to learn from!
I enjoyed this class. It was hard but the professor really cared about the students and was very good at helping me through problems. I wish I eneded up with a better grade but I really cannot blame the professor.
An excellent professor who gives a students a good amount or practice material over the semester, highly recommend going to office hours to get opportunities for one on one discussion
Lectures like she is giving a TED talk, but they are good and helpful. Exams have good problems that make you get creative sometimes but are not as bad since you get k many note sheets for the kth exam. Some homework problems lead you down unrelated paths as to the actual content in class and can take a while. Overall pretty solid prof.
Professor Detlor is genuinely kind. However, when going over concepts, sometimes it is hard to follow and understand because she talks bit fast. Her lectures slides are well organized and she takes feedback from students to improve the class. Not the best, ideal professor but still a better choice than other EMA 303 professors.
Professor Detlor is amazing for ema 303 -- much better than Mikkelson. She genuinely cares about her students and slows down her lectures when students do not understand the content. One of the best teachers I have had.
Clear and informative lectures, available outside of class, would take another class with her if available.
Professor Detlor is definitely one of the best professors I have had in my time at UW-Madison, she did an amazing job teaching Mechanics of Materials. Despite the relative difficulty of the course content, she explained it in a way that made sense to me and is always willing to answer questions during lecture and discussion.
highly recommend
I made Prof Detlors page because of how amazing she is, it needs to be said. Im not sure if this is her first time teaching this class, but so far she is amazing. She is helpful and caring. her lectures are professional and organized and she is the first professor I have had that really felt like she cared about her students. highly recommend.
