Professor Martell is one of the best professors I've had at UW-Madison! He explains mechanisms really well and there are very little misconceptions in his lectures. He always asked people's names, and often remembered them, when they asked a question, which shows how much he cares about his students. Highly recommend!!
Explained concepts very well and made a clear effort to priortize students opinions and learning experience to make ochem bearable for most. He gave you all the tools to do well.
It was a very difficult class, but it's Ochem so what do you expect. Jeff was so sweet, doing his best to memorize people's names in a lecture size of 300. I appreciated his trying to make the class feel smaller in this way and I could tell he truly cared about us as students.
Clear and thorough lectures. Free of any misconceptions. Puts an effort towards memorizing students' names.
Even though o chem was difficult, Martell is super nice and is willing to answer questions. he's also good with piazza and gives you a real sense of a communicative lecture where students openly ask questions. He explains stuff well, but I'd still recommend using the problem sets and practice exams to familiarize yourself with the trio's tests.
Chem 345 is really difficult but Martell makes it tolerable. He really cares about his students actually learning
if you have to take ochem, please please choose martell. he is the sweetest and most caring professor. he took the time to learn people's names and I know he cares for his students. ochem sucks but it was tolerable with him.
This class is extremely hard. The exams the collective professors write are very difficult and often not like the practice exams they give (just a warning). Professor Martell is hands-down the BEST professor for Chem 345. Even if you don't have him, go to his lectures or look at his notes. His notes are SO MUCH BETTER than the other professors.
He truly cares about his students. This is not the case for several chemistry profs I have had in the past -- he obviously wants everyone to succeed and makes himself very accessible. I'm always impressed that he remembers many students' names during lecture! Ochem is overall a huge struggle for me but Martell has been awesome this semester!
I'm in the 5-prof. group and I've found Jeff Martell to be the most coherent lecturer out of all of them (IMO). I'd definitely give his lectures a shot if you're having trouble focusing.
Jeff is honestly one of the best profs I've had. Seriously a great guy, he really wants you to do well and its so obvious. Gives clear and detailed answers to questions, no matter how long it takes. Always available for questions & even tells everyone to email him if piazza is taking too long.
