About this rating

Raw average: 4.00/5 from 4 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Discussion-based lectures. Julia is always encouraging and incredibly engaged, and so is everyone in class, so the classes are a lot of fun. The weekly readings are heavy, but they are very carefully chosen and cover topics smartly. Two papers with a lot of research freedom. This is one of my favorite seminar classes so far.

I really liked this class, and her lectures were really interesting. It wasn't too much work and she was always understanding if I needed an extension. I will say the grading expectations aren't always super clear, but she isn't a super tough grader. She seems to genuinely care about her students and wants us to do well.

Quality 2/5Difficulty 4/5
While it is clear that Julia Horn is very invested into this field of research, she often forgets that not all students are majors of her field. There are 4 papers in this class in which she will go through and give you marks on even the smallest things. Interesting topics are discussed but as stated, this is not our only class, or field of study.

I loved her class on medical ethics in the ancient world. She is a fair grader. There are like four papers, a presentation, and two exams in blue books. She is very smart and her lectures are always interesting regardless of the topic. She assigns documentaries to watch every week and they are always interesting as well. Loved her class
