Him and his TA Pablo the 🐐🐐🐐
Would totally take again, even though literature is not one of my strengths it was really easy to understand thats to his TA Pablo Pastore and his explanations, Juan is very passionate of his lectures and he's really funny
He is really passionate with his lectures, nice grader with Pablo Pastore, his TA, as long as you read everything you will be fine, grading is not hard, this is the second course I take with them and would totally take them again.
This is for 470 there just wasn't an option to pick that. Love Juan. He is funny. Class is discussion-based. Homework is easy, watching a movie, looking at photos or short readings. We had online discussion posts every other Friday, so we didn't have to go to class every other Friday. If you have the chance to have Juan, I 1000% recommend.
Prof Egea's energy is great! He always has a smile on his face and is funny and entertaining. The only thing is that his lectures were a little all over the place.
Prof Egea was so much fun to listen to in lecture. He expects you to read everything he assigns (which ends up around 2-3hrs of reading per wk, not horrible). But he also talks through each text and analyzes in lecture so attendance is mandatory & very helpful in general. Overall, I have never laughed as much in a lecture as I did with Prof Egea.
Juan's lectures were enjoyable, but he made some offhanded comments. Attendance and participation in discussion is mandatory. The TA Isabel was an extremely harsh grader, and Juan wasn't any help with the exam grades. Overall, a manegable class.
I LOVE JUAN EGEA. This was my second class that I have taken with him and I would take so many more if I could. His lectures are so interesting and he is so passionate about the material. Exams are extremely straightforward and you will do well if you come to class and participate. TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM IF YOU CAN.
I loved Juan Egea. One of the best teachers in the four years I've been at UW-Madison. If you get the chance to take a class with him do it! The assignments are clear and the exams aren't bad either as long as you study. Great sense of humor and I really enjoyed going to lecture.
Professor Egea is the funniest and most caring guy ever! I couldn't recommend his classes enough. Exams are easy as long as you prepare well for them and pay attention during lectures. Take Spanish 223 with him if you get the chance!
he is absolutely amazing and i wish i could take every class through him he is hilarious and loves teaching he makes his lectures interesting and fun to listen to he sang to us :)
Juan is an awesome professor he's hilarious, personable, and a great teacher to boot. His lectures are entertaining, and in 223 he boils a lot of history and culture down to the essentials in a way that is palatable and educational. Tests were reasonable and he gives you everything you need to prepare for them. Would absolutely take again!
Juan was an amazing professor. Lectures were incredibly interesting and entertaining, and throughout the material was focused more on making you analyze historical situations than feeding you things to memorize. As long as you kept up with the readings and went to discussions, this class was very manageable.
Professor Egea is one of the nicest professors I've had at UW. I've taken two classes with him and would take so many more if I could- he makes his expectations extremely clear and genuinely wants his students to succeed. This class was extremely manageable- just do the readings and take the weekly quizzes and you're good to go!
I loved Juan! He's super funny and really wants you to succeed. Just beware, he speaks quickly and with a heavy accent, so if you aren't good at Spanish you have to really pay attention. I highly recommend taking any class with him.
I had Prof Egea last semester too and I loved him both semesters. CHOOSE HIM! He is so kind and understanding, but also a very knowledgeable professor who wants students to succeed. He is my favorite Spanish professor ever!!
Professor Egea is a very good professor. I took Spanish 361 over the summer for four weeks, so it was fast-paced. As long as you do the homework, you will do well in the course. Professor Egea provides some interesting material for you to explore.
Professor Egea makes lecture a lot of fun. He likes to make lecture entertaining, which makes it easier to pay attention and enjoy. He is very friendly. As long as you do the work that he asks for, you should do well in the class.
Juan made class actually really interesting. He would spell out the key points and make it clear what he wanted us to know. He also would practically tell us what was going to be on the exam, which made it a fairly easy class. There is quite a bit of reading but if you show up to lecture you'll be fine.
Juan was great! His lectures were interesting and actually made you want to go to class. There is quite a bit of reading and you have to study a little for exams but as long as you show up to lecture, you should be fine.
Juan is very funny and cares about his students. His lectures are pretty interesting overall. The workload for 223 is not much and it is graded pretty generously. Very chill professor, I would definitely recommend taking his class.
Juan is a very good prof and clearly cares about students. Fun class and he puts a ton of effort into presentations/lectures. Sometimes takes attendance. Class can be intimidating because discussion participation is mandatory and there are many fluent Spanish speakers. Class is exam and reading heavy, but grading is generous. Good class overall.
Juan is an amazing professor, he is funny and caring as well. I enjoyed having a small class size with him, much better than huge lectures. I don't really like the quizzes because I find them hard to do on your own (just from reading the textbook) but if you take your time on them you'll do well. I have him again next sem and im very excited!
probably one of the best professors i have had at uw-madison. lectures were super engaging; i especially appreciate his carefully chosen soundtrack to the class.
Juan was one of my favorite teachers ever. He is so caring and really wants you to do well in his class. Although it was a large lecture completely in Spanish, he worked hard to ensure the whole class understood what he was saying. He gives study guides for each exam and as long as you know that material you will be fine for the exam.
Juan was great - super passionate, understanding, and funny professor. The class freaked me out at first, the readings felt impossible, discussions are intimidating, and your grade is just from 2 tests, an essay, and participation. I was worried throughout the whole course, but the grading was very generous!
JUAN IS AWESOME. He knows what he's talking about, challenges his students with the assigned readings, and introduced us to so much music and art during this course. Information in Spanish 223 if pretty general b/c of limited time unfortunately. Participate in discussion; you'll learn better and it's one of the few graded items in this class.
Juan is super nice, he is a really enjoyable person to work with. His courses are well though out and I feel like I'm learning a lot about Spain without being overwhelmed by information.
Juan is funny and clearly loves literature. I thought his slides were confusing at times and didn't always give relevant information so sometimes I'd leave lecture without any notes. This class covered a lot of information which made it kind of overwhelming to study for but he gives you study guides which help a lot.
I had Juan for both 468 and 361 and I absolutely love him! He is so funny and teaches you a lot about Spanish culture without feeling like you are just memorizing facts. If he teaches 468 Filming Spain again I strongly suggest taking it! You watch movies for hw and learn a lot about the history and culture of Spain through watching these movies
I usually do not like literature courses, but I really enjoyed this class with Prof. Egea! The course consists of participation, a midterm, final exam, and a final paper. I really liked that we could pick our topic for the final paper. Some of the readings are hard to understand, but power through and you will improve your Spanish!
If you have to take Spanish 224 take it with Juan! I was nervous about taking a literature class in Spanish but he cares so much about his students and their success. The first day he said "If you're here, it's because you're supposed to be." Study guides for midterms and final, and lots of help from TA's for the paper. Also he's hilarious.
One of the best Profs on campus! Nice guy, very funny. He keeps you interested in the class even if you are not a big fan of literature (like me). Take your spanish classes with him!
Textually heavy class, but a great professor; funny, nice, and an easy grader, given you do the readings
If I ever get the chance to take another class with Juan, I wouldn't hesitate to do so. Very specific about what is on the exams and cares about every students views.
Juan is an engaging and incredibly helpful professor. A bit hard to understand at the very beginning, but he cares so much about the success of his students and is great at getting points across. He really is "Juan in one million"
Juan is an excellent professor. He's passionate about teaching and has a great sense of humor. He is also very clear about his expectations for the course and exams (the study guides are extremely helpful). For the first time teaching 224 in a large lecture format, he did a great job.
I loved taking him this summer, he is a great professor! He is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching and really tried to engage the class. Really easy grader never took off for spelling/grammar. Only a midterm and a final and he gave us the essay question in advance. Definitely plan on taking him again!
Really funny, good guy. Very easy summer course. He gave us the exam essay questions before hand. All reading was online, some in spanish, some in english. Very enthusiastic and just a great prof. Take his classes.
One of my favorite profs on campus, and although I'm not a Spanish major, I'm definitely planning on taking another class taught by him! Take his class!!
Prof. Egea is great. Take him if you can!
He really knows what he's talking about and is an amazing professor.
I absolutely loved this guy! He was able to make boring spanish history interesting, he's extremely funny, and really made me love coming to class. He puts you on the spot a lot in class and isn't afraid to call on students if they're not paying attention, but you do a lot of group work and getting a good grade isn't tough if you do quality work.
Juan is such a great guy! The best prof. in the dept. by far. A real treat if you get him, helpful, fun....enjoyed going to class.
he is the best spanish professor in the department, by far!!!!!
Loved him.
Great Span Prof- this class uses lecture/power point format. As long as you show up to class and discussion and take notes, you will be fine. Tests are very fair.
BEST PROFESSOR IN THE SPANISH DEPARTMENT!! HILARIOUS!!
This guy is the best prof. in the dept. His powerpoints are so easy to follow and he gives you more than enough info needed to pass the tests. The movies are useless and so are discussions, except to take the quizzes. Juans a good guy, kind of wierd, but funny.
Awesome professor. Lectures easy to follow, study guides extremely crucial for the exam. Very fair and really funny-I would definately recommend him.
fairly easy, discussion helps a lot. juan is a great professor!
Very good professor. Made material more interesting.
Easygoing, enthusiastic professor who wants you to be challanged learning the material while making sure you're not lost in all of the ideas (things that make you go hmmmm) he tosses out there - incredible teacher.
