It is very easy to do well in this course; just do the work. You learn a lot about language through his lectures. Homework was a reading and a discussion post. Hes a great guy and very accessible outside of class.Rate My Professors ↗

What students say
Original student reviews · all captured dates
Prof. Salmons was a great professor and clearly wanted the students to benefit from his class! He was very accommodating and made sure to check in on us many times throughout the semester. A lot of the class was discussion based, and he seemed to value what all of the students had to say. Definitely would recommend!Rate My Professors ↗
Joe has big Dad energy. There is no other way to explain his persona. There are a lot of readings in this course, and they are not always easy to understand, but his lectures are amazing and really explain everything. He really cares about his students, and is pretty lenient when it comes to deadlines, just as long as you do the homework.Rate My Professors ↗
Joe is an absolute beast. I loved this class. Although I was completely green to linguistics coming in, I did not feel left behind at all. He presents the information in a way that is robust but also easily accessible. This is a Comm B course, so be ready to write. I would highly recommend this course for those looking for an interesting Comm B.Rate My Professors ↗
Joe is fantastic. This class was a mix of people who have no linguistic experience and grad students in Linguistics, so the content is suited for everyone. There's a bit of memorization in the first half of the course, but after the ONE exam, it's mainly focussed on a final project. Joe was cheery and always encouraged a fun discussion.Rate My Professors ↗
Joe was an awesome teacher, and really willing to help students do well in classes. He also is more than willing to help students pursue goals outside of classes. All around a great person, and always answers questions quickly and thoroughly. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend.Rate My Professors ↗
