JOHN DOEBLEY

He's a sweet man who is very excited by genetics. His lectures were interesting, but not a lot of text on slides, so you really have to write your own notes. His tests are not easy, but they are very similar to the practice tests. He didn't let us use a note card. The first quiz generally gets very low scores on vocab, so study your vocab with him.

This class can be a little difficult since its only graded based on midterms and the final, but you are allowed to drop your lowest score and there is a curve. If you work hard from the start getting an A is possible. John has a clear passion for the subject and teaching, but some of the lectures are a bit dry and difficult to sit through.

Great lecturer, was dull but you knew what you were expected to know. He loves plants (he's a corn breeder) so I enjoyed his lectures. Made things very understandable. Stays on schedule and sticks to what he says. I would take another class with him. LOVED the fact that lowest quiz grade got dropped!

Co-teaches with the worst professor who is sure to make the class miserable and incredibly difficult, which sadly ends up overshadowing Doebly's good professorial qualities. But with that aside, Doebly is great - amiable, clear, funny. I especially enjoyed his qualitative genetics section. His exam questions are predictable and easy to study for.

Clear lecture. Easy exam if you did the daily practice sheet. Textbook never opened, nor the solution book. Check the discussion posts for the daily practice sheet answers.

He's an interactive lecturer, so I keeps you awake. His slides are extremely colorful and in really big font which can be a good thing or really messy. He also helps online through a chat on learn@UW, so it makes asking questions easier. Overall a good professor.
