Class felt like, "Let's put an Indian on display hour." Multiple of her guest lecturers mentioned they had zero prep. One was very old. Conaway couldn't figure out how to get her on Zoom so she held her phone up to the computer on speaker ultimately making it unintelligible. It just felt disrespectful. A lot of self-congratulation. I truly cannot stress enough how much you should avoid Conaway. She initially comes across as kind but a tad eccentric, but you quickly learn that she is disorganized beyond belief and then will berate you/the class when there is a misunderstanding. Conway obviously cares a lot about the content she teaches. BUT she is unorganized, tends not to include rubrics for assignments and when she does include one she doesn't follow it when grading. Along with this she rarely responds to emails, when she does they are short and don't address your actual question. This class was a disappointment.Rate My Professors ↗
I also took this class over the summer and I thought it was fine. The canvas page was well organized and grading was extremely fair. I don't think the work load was the fault of the professor at all... obviously a summer class is going to be a lot more work than during the semester, so just be prepared to read a lot (but only one big paper!)Rate My Professors ↗
I took this class during the summer and it was a lot of work (around 50h a week). Completed ethnic studies but I emailed Prof Conaway a few times and never heard back. I would never take a class with her again. Horrible experience, but I liked the material taught. TAs were accessible for any question . I recommend 306 with a different professorRate My Professors ↗
I enjoyed this class, but never heard from the professor. I only interacted with TAs. This class is a lot of work as a summer term class and requires daily attention for 4-6h. I did the work throughly and thought the grading was fair. Clear grading rubrics presented for each assignment. I recommend this class but don't take a second class with it!Rate My Professors ↗
