Jesse is a really cool guy (restauranteur + band member) and he evidently cares about teaching. He is very approachable and his readings are all of appropriate length. His ability to clarify complex arguments was useful which is why I wish he dedicated less time to class discussion which and more to lecturing

The course was entirely discussion-based, and he did a really good job of facilitating and contributing to them. The majority of the final grade is determined by the final paper, participation, and the final exam. Overall, he's an amazing proessor, and is exactly what people should desire in a philosophy professor.

My grade is based off of 4 papers, a midterm, and final. The downside of this class is that there are no notes. It's hard to take notes because the entire class is discussion based. The TA also does a lot of grading, overall great class and was fun.

He is very charismatic and open to discussion. The one thing I did not like about 541 is that he changed the take-home exam to an in-person one. He takes paper drafts, so take advantage of that. Make sure your arguments are fleshed out rly well in the papers because he is not a particularly lenient grader. The subject can be duller than you expect.

It's a 500 level philos class so you have to read the papers and care. But jesse is wonderful- chill, super nice, and has an odd sense of humor. He doesn't take philosophy too seriously and acknowledges that it can be pretentious. It was 3 papers and an oral exam, which is pretty run-of-the mill. Rec to anyone who likes philos

Honestly, I didn't too many of the readings, but the way Professor Steinberg explained them in lecture allowed for me to do just fine. There were only four papers, a midterm, and a final for grades. The four papers were only two pages, so they weren't the worst. Philosophy wasn't my thing, but this class was interesting and rewarding.

This class was ridiculously difficult for an introductory class. It was supposed to teach you how to write philosophically, but instead, he said he does "trial and error" and basically you're screwed if you do poorly on the first paper. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU NEED IT FOR CREDIT. FIND SOMETHING ELSE.

Jesse is super nice, helpful, and funny. Not many tests for this class, just the final. It was kind of unclear what the final would be, but it ended up being relatively easy. There are four writing assignments that I found to be hard, but the grading was fair. Textbook is easy to read and interesting, although would say not really required for exam

Jesse is the most understanding professor I've had at UW. He really empathizes with students and is happy to work with you to help you understand and be successful in his class. Papers are tough, but talking your ideas through with him really helps. He is super clear and receptive to suggestions from the class. Jesse is awesome!!

Jesse is very good at facilitating discussions and the workload is pretty light since there's usually a little bit of reading for every class and then a handful of papers throughout the semester. It's tough to get an A but also fairly difficult to fail. He tries to make class interesting, so if you like the subject then definitely take his classes.

I cant say enough good things about Jesse. I've had him for two semesters and have always enjoyed going to class. He's easy going, completely understanding of what it's like to be a student and is willing to grant extensions/meet outside of class. Straightforward exams, several writing assignments - not bad for upper level course. Jesse is my fave!

I took this class over the summer, and it was a 2 hr lecture M-Th. He was very passionate and very engaged, and he was very approachable. He facilitated good class discussion, and he was open and inviting. He often invited us to Memorial Union for a drink after class to talk more! He LOVES talking philosophy!

Good teacher. He's really dedicated to his students' success. He provides handouts, reads drafts of papers, and even had drinks with students after class. He's got a good sense of humor and is very reasonable when it comes to giving extensions on papers and knowing what students are going through. he's chill and I really recommend him!

Very thought-provoking class. Steinberg presents the information in an interesting and persuasive manner. Exams are mainly essays, but were graded fairly hard. Funny lecturer, not hard to follow along, and open to objection/criticism from the class.

Good prof. He's clear and has a weird sense of humor. The assignments are pretty easy if you go to class and the material is pretty interesting.
