This was a very difficult course. However, I did learn a ton about baroque music. Expect to spend hours prepping for the midterm and the final.

You can tell that Swack loves to teach about music and she always is excited about the material. Don't buy the online book-you'll only use it for listening which you can find on Spotify. The only homework is a couple concert reviews, besides studying for the quizzes and midterm. Great class for those interested in music!

Swack is a great storyteller. I knew much of the subject material to begin with, but I still enjoyed learning the interesting history of pieces and the composers who wrote them. There always seemed to be a problem with technology during lecture, but it was harmless because of how easy the class is. I wish I hadn't bought the $100+ textbook.

Prof. Swack is really fantastic. She's very passionate about Baroque music and knowledgable, although she likes to throw in her personal opinions about politics a bit too often. The first half of the class (vocal music) was more comprehensive than the instrumental half, but I still got a lot out of the course overall. Definitely recommend it!
