As a TA, she had a tendency to be rude or make it clear when she didn't like your answer. If she thought the class didn't do the reading, she'd just sit and make passive aggressive comments instead of focusing on bigger picture questions that could still be meaningful. It wasn't very clear what we were expected to know, either. Made things harder.Rate My Professors ↗

This professor meant well, but was just not good. She was unclear, inconsistent, and would say something and then to do the opposite. Did not receive any grades until past half-way through the semester. Students would often ask questions clearly and she would give the response, "I don't understand what you're asking." Boring class, bad professor.Rate My Professors ↗

Class and lectures are VERY disorganized. There were many last minute changes. Some of the African diaspora scholarship she uses is outdated by 20+ years. She does a poor job of communicating her expectations and ideas. It took FOREVER to get graded work back (exams and papers). Interesting subject, badly facilitated. Not worth it.Rate My Professors ↗

While I'm sure she had good intentions, this class was butchered by her inability to be clear. The midterm was completely random and not what was foreshadowed. Rather than worry about meaningful lessons it seems like we are just expected to memorize. I've never been so confused as to what is expected of me in my life.Rate My Professors ↗

Essame is a college student's worst nightmare. Attendance is taken everyday; only one absence is allowed otherwise your grade drops by a letter. Her exams are ridiculously difficult and she offers no help or real structure - it's straight memorization. I would NEVER refer her or take another class from her again. Huge mistake and my GPA is paying.Rate My Professors ↗

Memorization ridiculous. Her lectures are mandatory (only 1 absence allowed), poorly organized and unclear. Her expectations are unclear and she is sometimes awkward and rude. NOT WORTH IT. AVOID!Rate My Professors ↗
