Everyone who is rating him low is likely not of liberal mind and is offended by his passion and use of swear words. The lectures are highly intriguing, readings are not that heavy, exams are straight forward (he said the study guide is almost exactly like the exam). He's also very transparent in what he's looking for & encourages questions.

In LS 400, Prof Meyn was knowledgeable and taught an interesting course. His lectures were pretty intense, and I would say he swears a lot more than my liking and whats needed to convey his message. However, exams were relatively easy if you attended the exam review and studied slides. The exams were basically identical to the study guide. 7/10

LS435 was, I'll admit, a very interesting course that dived into the historical systemic racial discrimination that occurred in the US- from post WW2 housing to post-emancipation legislation, there's a whole lot to learn. He did sometimes come across as self-righteous or preach-y.

Professor Meyn is... very passionate. He is incredibly woke. If you are politically republican at all you will likely not enjoy his class. That being said, the class is fine. Reading is dense but thats to be expected of a Legal Studies Class. If you attend lectures you'll understand the class and the test topics. Professor Meyn is knowledgable.

Prof. Meyn is an amazing person and an amazing professor. This is my favorite LEGAL ST course offered at UW, and is a great sequel to LEGAL ST 131. Graded by attendance and three exams (first is pass = 100%) and attendance. Do the readings and go to lecture and you'll be fine.

His Criminal Injustice class was amazing. He is hands down the best professor I've ever had at UW-Madison.

I really would like to take this class again!!

Ion is the best professor I've ever had. LS 435 should be a requirement for any LS major. Ion is passionate, funny, and extremely smart. He tells it to you straight, no BS. Lectures were dense and sometimes triggering, but I really looked forward to going lecture because it was so interesting. Although it was a big class, he engaged the audience.

Professor Meyn is clearly passionate about what he does and has a lot of knowledge about what he's teaching. There are only three exams, but the TA reviews and study guides tell you exactly what information you need to be focusing on. Meyn wants his students to do well and gives you every single tool to do so.

Socialist ideologue who attempts to indoctrinate instead of instruct.

Professor Meyn is one of the most passionate and dedicated professors I have ever had. His lectures are SO interesting and the discussion is amazing. The exams can be difficult because the TAs can be really strict on specific wording and phrases, and it sometimes feels subjective. I have learned more in his classes than any other class I've taken.

Professor Meyn is my favorite professor at Wisconsin--amazingly relevant material, and he prepares you incredibly well to succeed in both his classes and in the legal field. You will only be successful if you actively engage with the course material, but every reading and every lecture was so impressively engaging so it was always enjoyable.

Ion is an amazing professor. He's sarcastic and doesn't put up with our bull. He has a lot of great experience and powerful stories related to Wrongful Convictions since he was part of the WI Innocence Project. He gives us a study guide that is essentially the exam. He sets you up to be successful in the course. I would 100% take again.

This class is very challenging and although he gives the essay questions before the test he expects you to go above and beyond. The material can be boring/confusing and he doesn't always explain it

Prof. Meyn is one of my favorite professors at UW. He's always engaging, articulate, and ready and willing to help if you have any questions. He gave us "potential" test questions (basically the test) which helped me study. The content of this course is so fascinating and I would definitely recommend other students take this course with him!

Extremely well-organized lectures with powerpoint that he seemed to have timed to the second. High-octane personality, expect impassioned lectures peppered with funny anecdotes and strong opinions. Not the most forthcoming about what we should expect on our exams. A little intimidating to approach 1:1. My whole class seemed to love him.

He actually had me looking forward to waking up in order to attend his 8am power lecture. His lectures are very organized, packed with information and interesting. He adds personal stories and you can tell he is very enthusiastic about the topic. There are a lot of readings but if you attend the class, you basically don't have to read.

I think I could listen to Ion teach all day without getting bored. He made an 8am power lecture interesting and fun. He is super smart but relates to college kids well. Swears during lecture and tells crazy stories about when he was an attorney. Seriously I couldn't say enough good things about this professor. Best I have had in my four years here.

Professor Meyn is great! He gives study guides which are basically some extent as to what he will ask on an exam. Attendance is mandatory but if you go to lecture you don't really need to do the readings. He also does reviews before each exam where he goes over almost everything he talked about. I'd definitely recommend taking Race and Law!

Great professor! He gives study guides that are almost identical to the questions he gives for the exams so you can plan your responses ahead of time. He's an engaging speaker and has a great sense of humor.

Race and Law was very interesting. I actually enjoyed our topic of discussion rather than suffered through it. Ion was also super cool and bent over backwards to help me. I believe the midterm was a 10 page take home, so no reason not to get an A. The number of readings caused some confusion as it was hard to recall which was which.

Race and the Law was extremely informative and relevant, but it was difficult to understand what he was looking for in tests. There were two tests and participation. The first one was take home essay and the last was written cumulative. He is good at explaining the readings, but the readings are lengthy and sometimes difficult.
