Awesome professor. He's a kind soul and makes concepts easy to understand. Might be my favorite professor yet.
Hiroshi is hands down one of THE best profs and humans on campus. It's obvious how dedicated he is to science and students learning, you'll be lucky to have him as a professor. I seriously cannot recommend him or his classes enough. The folks in his lab help out occasionally and they're all amazing (shout out soyoung, marcos, and jorge you rock).
he is really sweet and knowledgable on botany. he had really sweet coffee breaks that were interesting. i would love to take another class by him.
Dr. Maeda is an amazing professor. Exams were straightforward and based on lecture material. If you go to lectures and study the slides, you should be able to do well on the exams. (I don't recommend reading the textbook unless a concept from lecture is confusing). Also appreciated his coffee breaks and how he engaged with the class as a whole!
Maeda is overall a good professor, but good GOD are the exams dense. Seriously, there is no amount of preparation you can do that will significantly improve your grade. The bottom line is that if you have a lot of exp. with biology, you'll be fine, but if you don't, prepared to want to drop this class almost immediately.
Dr. Maeda is excellent! Lectures are well organized. Exams are not easy but fair. The Q&A hours before each exam is quit helpful. Take 130 with him and you'll be fine in this course.
He is one of the best professors I've ever had in UW. He is very devoted to teaching and his lectures are full of visual aids -- beautiful mindmaps and pictures that link everything together.
If you go to his lectures you will do fine in his class. His lectures were interesting and it was the only class at 8:50 AM that I consistently went to.
He was very polite and funny. His lectures were clear and he also had interesting "coffee breaks" where he would talk about certain applications of botany. Bummer he didn't teach the whole semester.
Dr. Maeda was pretty great overall. He managed to make me laugh, and he seemed to really care that his students do well. Exam questions were very fair, especially considering the number of practice questions he provided to make studying a bit easier. Botany's not really my thing, but I would probably take another class if he was teaching it.
Great professor! He's funny and he explains the concepts well. All test questions felt fair, and the practice exams were helpful. Loved his coffee breaks.
Hiroshi is an awesome professor who makes waking up for 8:50 lecture enjoyable. He brings a very positive vibe to the classroom through his sense of humor and his joy of talking about botany. Attending class is critical in order to completely understand all the concepts. He really wants you to be be successful, sad he only teaches 1/2 the semester
Dr. Maeda is a great teacher for Botany 130. He is naturally funny but mostly just plows through the material without trying to make people laugh, which is good. He dumbs the concepts down if you come from taking Bio 101 previously. Things ramp up for his second exam, but some memorization of the cycles and focus on key concepts will help you a lot
He has a good sense of humor. Go to class and follow his ppt slides and you will do fine. His practice exams are similar to his exams-- which really helps to prepare you for the exams. I really enjoyed his coffee breaks also!
Tests are fair game. Lectures are easy to follow. Pretty much, just study up well for exams and you should do fine. The textbook is kind of helpful but it's not really 100% needed.
Not always easy to hear during lecture, but he posts his slides so you can look up anything you might have missed. Makes tests super easy- he posts a sample exam that almost exactly mimics the real exam. You always know exactly what to expect for the test. I would, however, still recommend doing the readings.
Dr. Maeda is a very helpful professor although he might sound confusing sometime. He won't hesitate to help you! He has a sense of humor and likes to do "coffee breaks" which are breaks for students to just sit and relax while he talks about scientific news! His tests are totally fair game! Overall, awesome professor!
