This is a tough subject & requires building up to certain concepts, we didn't get this. I had to watch YouTube videos or look online for help; I could not figure out the concepts he was trying to teach. Tests are overly specific & include things mentioned once in lecture","source_url":"https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/professor/1136169","quality_rating":1,"difficulty_rating":5},{"observed_at":"2026-09-07 16:36:23.251989+00:00","run_id":"20260907T155543-ce3781c4","source_review_id":"UmF0aW5nLTQyMDk0NTE5","source_instructor_id":"rmp:1136169","instructor_name":"Huifang Xu","course_label":"GEO360","course_id":null,"course_uid":null,"review_date":"2025-12-08 16:07:55 +0000 UTC","comment":"Mineralogy is difficult and while Huifang tries to make it fun and is clearly very interested and knowledgeable in the topic, he is not skilled at teaching the material. It's usually difficult to understand what he's saying and he doesn't explain concepts well. Exams are very difficult, and there are no materials provided for exam preparation. Prof. Xu makes mineralogy really fun even though it is a lot of memorization and facts. His online lectures were a bit confusing because he would write over his own words.
