547 was a great class. Tons of info, but all very interesting. Focused very heavily on synthesis, which got a bit boring at times. I've never worked harder for a class than I did for 605. Weekly problem sets, lots of take home quizzes, a few exams. Very time consuming, but it was one of my favorite classes I've taken. Hans is an amazing professor.Rate My Professors ↗
Hans is by far the most intelligent person I have met. He cares about the subjects and students he teaches with a passion. During his courses I feel as though I have broken barriers and actually have become smarter, as well as better at all of my courses. Has been teaching for 40 years, so it's all old hat for him. Can go too fast at times so reading ahead of time helps. Always copy your notes after lecture and ask questions. Always has exam questions about ranking reactivity/acidity/etc. of different compounds. Tests are fair, and he definitely knows his stuff. Great guy as well.Rate My Professors ↗
Brilliant man, but he didn't explain things completely and would often draw arrows with "chemistry" written above them to finish a mechanism. He didn't really connect the class material and the tests were nothing like he covered in class. Also had to pay to do online homework which was only somewhat helpful.Rate My Professors ↗
If you like O-chem, you should definitely take all of Prof. Reich's classes. (Yes, we did, though the class number only says 605). Seriously, he is most incredible and intelligent professor we have ever had, and "students" are his No.1 priority. He made extra time for us, and he has been extremely helpful in every question we've asked so far.
Professor Reich is hands down the most incredible professor in the chemistry department. His class is definitely challenging, but if you review his notes and go to his office hours and group discussions you will walk out extremely satisfied.Rate My Professors ↗
