A graceful and engaging teacher who explains things clearly and makes learning enjoyable.
My only complaint was having multiple choice exams. The many opportunities for extra credit were much appreciated
Really loved Pac. His lectures are funny and he puts effort into making boring content applicable and relatable. He provides tons of extra credit opportunities and is always open to questions and office hours. Wish I had the chance to take another class with him - will miss his jokes and tangents
The class. is super easy. None of the content is particularly hard and the exams are average difficulty. Lots of extra credit is offered making it very easy to get an A without much work. Gregory himself is decent, his lectures are clear and he is very pleasant. The one downside is that he is extremely boring so sitting through lecture is arduous
The lectures make sense if you have an idea of what's going on or if you're already caught up on that weeks material and understood it. If you are expecting just the lectures to do everything for you you're wrong. He says things like “because I was great” it sounds bad but he has a point he's trying to get across. Do the problems! Like he says.
Fantastic class and the guy knows Tableau. I shared others' views early that you have to self teach, but get through the first 2 weeks and you'll have a good enough understanding on how to use Tableau. He does that on purpose, so that you'll be ready for the homeworks and projects. Cares and flexible. Funny and personable too. I'll miss him.
Professor Pac always encouraged us to come to the office and ask him questions, and was happy to answer them for us. But the class may be a little boring, but overall, I learned a lot from this course.
Easy class but professor has high ego
Posts all slides online, gives extra credit for showing up to class. His lectures can be a little dull, but it is statistics, and he makes the best of it by relating to real world and cracking some good jokes. Exams are kind of tough but study and go to office hours, he's very knowledgeable and explains things well. Highly recommend.
Professor Pac is the worst professor I've had at UW. The lectures are unhelpful, and he doesn't seem to respect his students. You essentially teach yourself Tableau, so I wouldn't recommend taking this class.
Doesn't understand how to make the course accessible to those that don't already have a solid base in statistics and then he decided to make the final all free-response because multiple choice was "too easy."
Lectures are boring and not practical. I leaned Tableau mostly by myself for the whole semester. If you want to learn data visualization, it's better to learn it online than to take this course.
He is extremely unreliable and is very demanding and unforgiving towards students. He has no qualms about being difficult with them, and assignments and exams have nothing to do with each other. He refuses to change the deadlines for over a dozen assignments even though the final exam has been moved up, and taking his class is a disaster.
Barely explains how to use the math and expects you to just get it when the test rolls around. Never releases exams so you know what you need to improve on, despite requests to do so. An extraordinarily frustrating class.
Pac is legendary; he is so available and helpful to students. I deeply appreciated his opportunities for EC and how this course feels a lot like "choose your adventure." You will do well if you choose to put in the effort and work for it, and the curve is generous so that if people are lazy and don't want to try hard, they will do badly. The GOAT.
Lectures were extremely boring and he would sometimes go on long tangents that didn't relate to material. Tests were fair and majority multiple choice. At a certain point I stopped attending lecture and just read the lectures slides and they were more understandable than the actual in-person lecture.
He is a nice guy. But the lectures are kinda boring, and the format of slides drives me crazy. He could have made the slide in a clearer and more logical way. The weekly hws are useless because they have nothing in common with the midterms. And the content of this course is overwhelming. I hate it.
Explains stats better than my HS stats teacher. Funny, tries to relate. TAs weren't helpful and read off the discussion reviews making attendance pointless. Gives criteria for grades and lots of EC. Midterms were not bad; final was horrid w/ multiple questions barely covered in class. Final was online. May have EC for attendance in future sems
Midterms were easy but final was pretty hard. Amazing guy but lectures are kind of pointless. I didn't go to class and still did well. Overall would def take again with him
Pac was very transparent about grading procedures and even gave students the excel spreadsheet he uses to calculate grades. Tests were easy and if you understand the material you will do well. Lectures can be very boring and pac at times goes on random tangents. A quick skim of the textbook taught me all I needed to know. Discussion is helpful.
He is as good as one can be for a statistics class
Pac is good. Fair teacher, midterms not too hard, lectures are just ok. Very clear with grading criteria. But wow, the final in this class is the worst. Brought me down an entire letter grade. Tested on extreme minutia of the course and not at ALL similar to the other midterms. I did not think it is a fair final by any means, so beware.
Really great professor, but the class is very topic heavy so I struggled with learning a lot of material.
Great professor. He is very funny, and explains things well. He makes statistics as interesting as it can be with his examples. The workload is fair, as are the exams. Definitely take him for 310!
Not very good at explaining concepts.
He seems to really care and have strong personal stories related to the course. However, it feels as if the majority of time in lecture is spent listening to those personal stories. The content on tests felt like the background information in lecture.
Relatively easy class. A few homework assignments and a final project and take-home exam (mini project). Interesting class that teaches skills important for a future in business / data analysis. Mainly Tableau, though one lecture on Excel. You can tell that Dr. Pac is really passionate about the subject and enjoys teaching it. Definitely recommend.
Professor Pac is a good teacher and person. The homework he gives out is fair and you get multiple attempts. The midterms are relatively average and based on applying your knowledge. However, the final exam is difficult and doesn't represent all we learned. It was an average class overall.
Prof. Pac does a nice job making boring content interesting by relating it to current events and his own previous work experience. The course is clearly organized so you know what to expect. 2 in-person midterms, final is online, 3 writing assignments, 1 quiz on canvas, and weekly homework.
Pac has been the best professor I've had so far in terms of making hard and boring content engaging and digestible. He relates lectures to current events which keep them engaging and fun. As long as you take notes and review properly for your midterms and take the class seriously, you should do well.
Dr. Pac is very likable and clearly has an interest and passion for economics and statistics. While I enjoyed his class, his lectures were often long and very dry, and maintaining focus was a challenge on many occasions, but that's statistics for you. Dr. Pac makes his grading criteria crystal clear and does not pull any punches or tricks on exams.
I really loved having professor pac as a teacher, but the subject material was incredibly hard for me. I did not miss lecture, I took detailed notes, went to office hours and Friday discussions, but I may still have to retake this class. I enjoyed learning from him, but the tests were often a lot more difficult than the practice problems.
The fact that Pac used to work for the IRS tells you everything you need to know about him. I've never had a professor who's exams are so different from lecture. You're somehow supposed interpret chicken scratch slides, but then also learn by yourself how to intuitively solve questions 10X harder than anything you've seen in class on the exams.
I enjoyed going to lectures - Pac discussed current events and recent articles in The Economist. He cared for students, asking if he was making sense/going slow enough and trying to make the class easiest for us while still testing our knowledge. I thought the tests were straightforward except the final was way (!) harder than the 5 midterms.
Gregory Pac is an amazing professor. But like some others say, it can get a bit boring in lecture. But other times it's fascinating. Really great guy. Though, maybe it was just me, the course was pretty difficult. Make sure you sit near the front and never miss any discussions (i learned the most in the friday discussions)
Great guy, explains economics thoroughly. My only problem with him are the exams; most of the questions are only practiced during the review session so all the lectures prior do not accurately prepare you for the questions on the test that throw you off.
I regret taking him. He explains well, but he gives a lot of work.
Pac is a great professor who knows what he is talking about. 5 midterms (difficult but online and he drops one). Practice midterm study guides and homework will not prepare you for the midterms (you need a broader understanding). Final was hard (65% average). Class is curved. Discussions are good if you have a good TA. Extra credit paper also given
Pac reviews a lot of content beyond the textbook in lecture, making them dull at times. However, he doesn't test on anything outside of the book. He has five open-note, online midterms, and he drops one. Discussions are also great to review concepts but aren't necessary. Pac's very passionate and wants his students to succeed -- I'm glad I had him.
Pac is a very nice professor and good lecturer however he has five midterms that are difficult to study for. His practice midterm study guide and homework questions have completely different constructed questions that do not prepare you for the midterms. The final was really difficult, the class mean was not even a 65 for the final, I dropped 9%.
Outstanding professor. Easily the best out of the ones out of my first semester at Madison. Made ECON interesting which is hard to do. Made going to lectures somewhat enjoyable through information that pertains to events that are currently going on. Very easy A if you do the work and attend lecture.
Dr. Pac is a great guy and lecturer. He is very clear about expectations and grading, and gives opportunity for extra credit. My only issue was the exam format -- there are online and partially fill-in-the-blank, so if you make a mistake you could lose 6-10 points just from one answer (no partial credit). Still a good professor
I am biased because I took Econ in high school, but this class was considerably easy and very clear. Pac gives good lectures, and everything on the tests have been covered in class or discussion. GO TO THE DISCUSSIONS, they are very helpful.
easy grader and he has lots of review sessions before each midterm. However, this class has a heavy workload for me, 5 midterms the lowest one gets dropped, 5 papers and the homework is hard if you don't have Chegg
really nice but his lectures were long and boring. for 101, you can teach yourself the content from the textbook, but do the practice problems he gives so you can learn his exam style. grading is pretty easy because there are 5 midterms and your lowest score is dropped. just do your homework and read the textbook if you're stuck. pretty chill class
The last two tests were really tough - average scores were 67% and 75%. I'd done well on the first two since the material was easier, but these last two had a lot of questions not covered in lecture or homework. Professor Pac is still a great teacher, but those last two exams were really unreasonable.
Very great teacher, he makes lecture so intresting and refrence the materials towards the lessons he's teaching. You should be able to get an A because he gives out 5 online mid terms and one of them is dropped. And the homework is managable, Chegg could carry you but do learn due to the exams applications. Highly reccomend taking him.
He is an amazing professor for Econ, explains the concepts extremely clearly. He also keeps his classes light with jokes and contemporary references. His exams are of a decent level but if you pay attention in lecture or read the textbook, you should easily get an A.
Very personable professor, offers lots of help and wants students to do well
Very engaging lectures, very nice professor. Class was not difficult if you did the work, mostly in part due to his great lectures. Exams very similar to in class problems/problem sets. Go to class and you'll do well. Best prof I've had at UW so far.
He's a pretty good professor, but his exam writing is unforgiving in the sense that you just plug answers into canvas without getting to show any work; even if you understand a concept, you will not get partial credit if you make a math error. He does however, explain the concepts well, which for the most part makes up for this.
Class was fairly run-of-the-mill and boring, so you could just go to the review lectures and the ones covering confusing material. This class will be super easy (open note tests, stupid easy papers), but the final hit like a ton of bricks. Study math problems, because they will mess with your grade. But, I definitely recommend Pac for ECON 101!
Econ is literal hell in general, but Professor Pac did make it somewhat easier. His accent is a little hard to understand at first, but you get used to it. Overall, he is a very knowledgeable guy and is passionate about what he does. Good luck!
You can really tell Professor Pac cares a lot about his students and what hes trying to teach them. There are a lot of tests but he provides a lot of extra help and office hours. Super sweet guy, would definitely recommend him!!
Professor Pac's Econ101 class was great. Open note tests with all lecture notes posted to Canvas. He was very kind and always encouraged students to come to office hours if they need help. Also holds review sessions before every test and gives materials that prepare students exactly for the test. Take Professor Pac for Econ101!
Gregory Pac is overall a really good professor. It is clear that he cares about his students and enjoys what he does. There are 5 midterms that are tough, but he is always inviting students to office hours and if you study you will do well. The lectures can get boring but Gregory tries his best to make them interesting. I would definitely recommend
Really nice guy. Talks about real-life applications he's noticed. Much better compared to other professors as far as I've heard.
Very good professor, content is a little difficult if you aren't great at economics so reading the textbook is helpful. Very fair grader and you can always ask him questions as he is very helpful.
Pac was my favorite professor this semester. He clearly cares about his students and is overall a really cool guy. His entire class was based off the textbook, and was incredibly organized. As long as you read and take notes you'll be fine. There are five midterms and 5 reflective essays to go along with them to act as grade boosters. No busy work.
He is an amazing professor. He teaches the materials straight forward. If you just listen to his lecture and review in the discussion section, you will get an A without any problem. Homework is all from Mindtap and it is very easy since they give you 3 trials. Also there are so many extra credit opportunities that you can boost your grade.
Prof Pac was a great Econ 101 professor. The lectures were easy to follow and the assigned hw helped to understand the content. He gives practice problems before each test that closely resemble the actual test. I would 100% recommend him.
Advice for the course: 1) View online lectures to complete PS early in the week and meet with Gregory to clarify any questions (PS account for 40% of course grade). 2) While viewing lectures, create an in depth reference sheet for the 4 Quizzes (40% of course grade) and final exam (20% of course grade). Use handout to supplement slides.
Dr. Pac is hands down one of the best college professors I have ever had. Despite being online the entire semester, he made himself accessible for help and support, and always made lectures enjoyable. Econ was not my strong suit, but thanks to Dr. Pac I learned so much and succeeded in the course after being intimidated at first. Highly recommend.
Did a great job doing lectures, even though they were over zoom. There isn't any new content in the lectures that can't be found in the textbook, but he does a good job going over example problems to prepare for the test. The tests were very similar to what is in the homework and the textbook, and the workload is reasonable.
I had Dr. Pac my first semester in college and he is a great Professor. Lectures were not mandatory and I did not always go, but when I did I learned. One of the things that made me want to go to lecture was the man himself. Great character and provides great examples of economics concepts.
Dr. Pac is amazing. He is a great lecturer, accessible outside of class, and wants his students to do well. He creates assignments that allow you to apply your learning and they end up being grade boosters. He is super personable and goofy and makes learning Economics tolerable. Would recommend him to anyone taking Econ101.
Dr. Pac is an amazing professor. He will help you outside of class if you are confused and makes difficult material very easy to understand. If you go to lecture and discussion and ask questions during office hours if you have any you will get an A.
Prof. Pac is amazing. Cares about his students and is just a genuinely fair guy. Lectures cover exactly what you need to know and assigns reasonable homework that allows you to boost grade. Also has the most hilarious anecdotes during lectures.
Im an atheist, but God bless this man! Prof. Pac assigns fair homework, fair exams, and is a fair individual themselves. His lectures cover what you need to know, no more no less. He is extensively available for his students outside of class, has a sense of humor, and comes ready with related anecdotes from his time in the financial sector.
Statistics is a horrible horrible class but professor pac does a great job. He cares a lot about his students and gives MANY opportunities for extra credit and extra help. Very nice guy, would definitely recommend.
Dr. Pac is an incredibly kind man who just wants you to succeed, gosh darn it. The class is not "easy" unless you already know stats but if you go to lecture and do homework you'll do fine. He has great anecdotes and examples that make it interesting to learn and he is a fair grader & understanding. Could not recommend him more!!
Extremely intelligent, makes stats interesting and provides personal and industry anecdotes to convey what can be tedious information. Seems to really love his work and takes pride in his knowledge. Personable and funny on a one-on-one basis. Flexible to externalities. Total Hoss.
Professor Pac is a very kind professor who really wants you to do well in stats. He goes out of his way to make sure everyone is feeling good about material before moving on, which is great. The power lectures got pretty boring about 2/3 through, but it's intro stats, there's not much you can do to avoid that.
