- Don't go to lecture except on Response Paper days when its mandatory - Go to office hours for both essays and Final Paper as TA Grades those and is harsh - Don't sweat for literally anything else, Grant grades everything a 100% if it isn't complete rubbish - Do your journal entries right after posts so you remember - Dont buy the books

Lectures were not mandatory, but I enjoyed going because he is clearly passionate. My grade was more determined by my TA and discussion participation.

I loved Grant! He was very funny and approachable. Class was very laid back and mostly student led in discussions. To do well you have to do the readings (which can be dense) and participate (attendance required!). But in my opinion it was super easy and near impossible to do poorly if you do that. Grade was mostly a final paper and project.

Take this class if you need a Com B! The lectures weren't mandatory, but he offered extra credit if you could answer a question based on the lecture each week. You do not need to go to lectures to do well in the class. Discussions are mandatory and vary based on your TA. There aren't too many papers, and I never felt stressed or overwhelmed.

Grant is an absolute king. Lectures are very interesting and he often makes short tangents and/or jokes to keep it entertaining. You can tell he's passionate about what he teaches.

Grant was my favorite professor this semester. He made class super fun. We always went off on fun tangents and he was super relatable. We played a D&D style game at the end of the semester which was super fun. 10/10 would recommend taking a class with Grant.

Grant is genuinely such a nice guy, he holds you responsible to the work that should be done before class but is helpful when your translations aren't necessarily accurate. He has allowed corrections on one passage on each test and responds to emails promptly. I would 100% take a class taught by him again.

Nice, passionate, and most importantly an easy grader, what else can you ask for?

Easiest commB probably. Great professor

Professor Grant was by far one of my most favorite professors. He is very clear in his instructions for grading, very kind and understanding. He makes Greek & Roman history very fun and although there is a lot of reading, he makes it engaging and tries his best to help students. I highly recommend any class he teaches because he is very inspiring.

Grant is an awesome professor! He gives clear grading criteria, responds to emails fairly quickly, and you can really see how much he cares about his students. Just do well on the essays, attend discussion sections, and you'll get the A. Would definitely take this class with him again.

Although his lectures are 50 minutes long and two times a week, (ONLINE) he is a really good professor! He explains his grading criteria well, he cares about his students and is a quick responder so if you have any questions, he usually answers them ASAP. You should get an easy A as long you can write well essays, do the homework and participate.

Professor Nelsestuen is super awesome! The best professor I've ever had at UW and the best class I've taken as well. The topics covered were super interesting and lectures were always a bright spot of my week. The essays were definitely challenging and I worked really hard to get the grades I got, but his feedback was super helpful.

I am in love with this man. One of the best classes I've taken so far and I think it's all because he was the one teaching it. A conspiracy class could've gotten pretty political but he kept the topics open-ended. He is an amazing, intelligent person and those qualities clearly shine through during his lectures. He made this online class really fun

Professor Nelsestuen's Classics 340 class was a really great online literature credit to take. The course can be a little reading heavy at times, but all the material is posted online well in advance so it's easy to get ahead. Your grade consists of two weekly discussion posts, a journal entry, and papers. The course is very well organized online!!

Great professor, great class

Entire class grade is primarily based on 4 papers, which he gave great feedback on. I didn't find the material too interesting but he clearly was passionate about the topic, which made the class easier to sit through (2 hour lecture).

Knows the subject matter but his lectures are scattered and he is unable to finish a coherent thought. He should try asking, "What can I clarify?" which places the emphasis on the lecture or his inability to present material in a clear and concise manner. Lectures jump around. Zero social interaction w students- even a hello would be nice.

The course is graded on four papers; they're progressive in length and grade weight. A solid amount of readings are assigned but few are absolutely required to write the essays. Grant is a genuine guy and inspired professor. He grades fair and is always accommodating.

Mr. Nelsestuen's lectures were a highlight for me three times a week. He was really fun and relatable while transferring upon us some really high-level information about Ancient Roman and Greek history. There is no final or midterm in this class, only 4 big essays that have broad criteria. Nothing is truly mandatory, but there is value in reading.

Most beautiful professor I have ever had ever had and I love him.

Hottest Latin professor on campus

Overall, great choice to fulfill a lit requirement. Really cares about the material. Readings vary from short to very long, but most of them are relevant to the course and assignments. Lecture is a must, posted powerpoints tend to be bulletpoints that will not make sense by themselves. Lectures can be a little scattered though

You could tell he was very knowledgable about the subject matter. He actually made Greek and Roman history interesting, and I found the lectures helped a ton. He basically explains all the readings in the lecture, and you have a couple reading quizzes which you do really need to know your stuff. Also, he's pretty hot so that made class interestin

Coming from a business student, but one who took Latin in high school and loves history, this is a really interesting course. Grant is a good professor who, while a bit scattered during lecture, is really interested in the material and makes you think about how history is portrayed. If you like ancient history and reading, this is a great class.

Great human being...

Great professor, easy going, very interesting and always prepared for class.

Prof. N is a cool guy. He's pretty funny, has some cool perceptions on various classical works, and is always crystal clear. No textbook, but we did use a coursepack, and we used everything in it. He's also very merciful when it comes to grading papers, of which there were four. He's easy to talk to and easy to listen to. Honestly, my fav prof.

Generally easy course. Couple short essays, few short quizzes. Can skip a few lectures, but not too many. Wouldn't want to anyways, he's so hot...

Great instructor. While he can be a little disorganized and get off topic, tangents are usually interesting. Tended to have a lot of good will toward the class and I felt like he really listened to our feedback.

Essays are easy, exams are a little harder, but he gives a nice curve. Really cool guy, makes class interesting and fun. Final is optional, can only boost your grade. He goes over all readings in class, so you don't need to do most of them.

Definitely intelligent, somewhat scattered, surprisingly interesting, absolutely adorable.

He knew his stuff however the tests seemed to test your knowledge about Latin more than Roman Civilization which was frustrating. Lectures consist of him reading word for word off his powerpoint excerpts from the readings, and he hardly stays on topic, but overall a decent class.

Not a fantastic lecturer but he knows his stuff. Lectures include everything you need for tests which which are easy multiple choice that he gives you essay options and vocab lists for. Don't bother reading anything except for essays and even then, just use sparknotes

He was a very approachable teacher who seemed a little disorganized at times but still knew his stuff; presenting and staying on topic sometimes was sometimes an issue. He had only papers, and a couple quizzes for this class and two discussions. I would recommend him for sure.

He was a great teacher. I'm an undergraduate and thats actually a graduate level latin course, but he kept the pace slow enough that I was able to keep up. And it also helps that he has different exams for the undergraduate and graduate students -> and he actually has a take home final! I'd recommend him to anyone :D

Easy multiple choice tests-gives you a list of terms you need to know ahead of time. A few short, basic essays. Certain readings were needed for essays but not all were necessary except for looking things up. This was my first humanities class and it was interesting and didn't take a lot of effort. Cool guy. Would recommend it to anybody.
