professor is not reachable, when one question is brought up, he usually throws it to TA, and the TA throws it to others. In this course, we are pretty much on our own because we write & learn the assignment with a total of 40+ hours in this class (only 3 credits). All of the hard work will be ruined because he sleeps in your final presentation.
Lectures are interesting, but be sure to take good notes. The tests are unnecessarily stressful because he gives a lot of multiple-part short answer questions to answer in too short amount of time. He also has not reported my grade for the semester two weeks after grades were due. Get ready to read lots of long papers written by Lupyan himself.
Gary is the best teacher I've had at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Psych 521 is also the most thought provoking class I've taken, from which I've learned a ton. 1000% would recommend.
Lectures are good. He's good at delivering the material; it's easy to listen and jot down notes (not fast-paced). Sometimes speaks a bit quietly, and slide font size can be a bit small. Pray for a good group for big group project. Exams (some MC, mostly short answer) were fair but needed more time. Just prepare--understand readings, study notes.
Professor Lupyan is extremely educated and is a passionate professor. Lectures are interesting and stimulating. The exams are comprehensive, so no memorization, but it's necessary you know the material very well. This course is unlike any other Psych course I have been in, and I highly recommend if you're looking for something different!
Awesome Professor! Very interesting and well run class. He teaches the type of material that you want to know and contributes to the joy of learning.

Lupyan is an amazing lecturer. Super smart and knowledgable professor! one of the best courses I ever took. Warmly recommended--fascinating, thought provoking and fun. No textbook, all readings are selected from recent research papers--mostly interesting stuff. Take it! You'll love it.
Prof. Lupyan's 501 Depth course on human thought is a great class! Lectures are much more engaging than most psych classes at UW. Exams are tough but very fair. Lots of readings, but interesting. Discussions are nice help, though make sure to participate to get a good participation grade. Overall, great class and one of the best psych profs.
Okay, first of all, have you seen his smile? Let's get this man a chili pepper. Readings scaffold well and encourage critical thinking. Just because an article is assigned doesn't mean you have to agree with it. Topics and lecture style are super engaging and interesting. Even if language isn't exactly your thing, I highly recommend this course.
Great!
Clearly very interested in the material and wants his students to be interested too. He picked out good readings and the discussions weren't limited to just what was in them, which was nice. Also very open to discussion and questions from students.
Good professor. He's really an expert in language and thought. He wanted wanted everyone to do well and be interested in the subject. He does make you post on discussion boards about the readings and that gets kind of tiresome but overall not a bad class.
