Nellis made complex subjects make sense in a way few professors have. He wasn't enthusiastic by any means, but occasionally funny and willing to work with me when I was sick for an exam. He seems pretty impartial to teaching but he's good at what he does. He cares enough to quickly respond on piazza and teaches well even without much enthusiasm lol

perfect at teaching. I never took notes in class but left lectures feeling well informed. I watched all the lectures again later in the day to take notes and do the homework. Exams were very fair and he prepared us well for them.

You literally could not ask for a better professor. The best I've ever had. Every lecture you learn exactly what you need to know and it sticks with you because his teaching is just that good. Writes down a lot of stuff during lecture and doesn't just click through slides. If you can take even one course with Nellis, you absolutely should. GOAT!

Nellis is the best professor in the engineering department. He's straight to the point. Teaches you exactly what you need to know in a clear and concise manner. Tests are super fair and he never tries to trick you. There is a lot of HW but it's a free 100 if you take the time to do it, and it makes studying for the exams an afterthought.

Had this guy for thermo and me201 and he's actually just the goat. Great at breaking complex topics down and explaining them in a way that easy for students to understand. Lot of HW but it really prepares you for the exams and is very doable. Probably the best professor I've had at this school tbh.

The best professor at UW. If you attend lectures you will get a high grade in the class. If you have the option to choose him for a class, do it.

Great professor who knows what he is talking about and explains the content in a way that is very easy to understand and learn from. Would definitely take him again if given the chance.

Dr. Nellis has been my favorite professor yet. Yes, he gives a lot of homework, but it always feels manageable and honestly because of his teaching style I feel like I actually learned and appreciated the content of Thermo in depth. Nellis' lectures not only hold everyone's attention, but actually teach things in a way that makes sense.

Greg is honestly an awesome professor. He has this great dry sense of humor and is a great lecturer. Some of the material is hard but he explains everything very well. Grading is exceptionally fair.

Honestly, not the brightest man. Doesn't know the difference between there, their, they're. Gives little to no feedback. Clearly is just going through the motions, and he just wants to be done with things.

Easily the best professor I've had here thus far - homework due every single lecture period, but, as he'll mention, you'll thank him when it comes to exams (which are essentially identical in format to the homework). Lectures were clear & concise, made thermo very easy to follow & an enjoyable class to take.

Easily one of my top professors of all time. He is straight to the point and clear on his expectations of you. He knows the best way to teach each concept and answers questions well. There is a lot of homework (3x a week) but it prepares you for the exam so well that cramming isn't even an option at this point. You just know what you know.

He is perfectly average when it comes to teaching, which isn't a bad thing. I enjoyed my time in class and the work load was not overbearing on me. Overall, he is a good option when choosing professors if you don't have another professor in mind already.

Get ready for homework, as he does give a lot. However this homework really helps you learn the material he teaches as I did not study for the first midterm and made a 93. He is a great professor who explains everything. He makes a lot of funny remarks and is fun to listen and learn from. If you take Thermo, I highly recommend Nellis.

He does a great job at lectures and the exams aren't too bad. My only complaint is there was homework due at the start of every lecture. If you have a job and/or a heavy course load it almost guaranteed you won't finish some homeworks because you need to work on some every night, and find time to print it before class.

Nellis is clear with what he asks. ME201 is a poorly designed class but I don't believe that that's his fault. He lectures well, with good insight into engineering as a whole.

Really chill professor, the one midterm you have is easy. The trolley project sucks, but that's not because of bad teaching

Professor Nellis provides a great introduction class to mechanical engineering. Every lecture he teaches exactly the content you need for the activities that week. There are quizzes in each lecture, but you can work together with others. He also only makes you take one exam the whole class.

He's great, but I think ME 201 is kind of a terrible class. The trolly project is both way too constricted, and way too open-ended. The grading in this class is absolutely broken. You'll get tons of grades with like "0/10" "2/5" etc and you'll have to email the prof. It's always an error and you get the points back.

Nellis is a great proffessor. ME 201 is a great class.

Gregory Nellis was awesome. He definitely cares about his students and want them to enjoy the class. I will say the class can be tough and you might question your life choices but its an awesome class. Really gets you excited for more engineering classes to come.

ME 201 is a pretty easy class and Professor Nellis makes it even easier. His lectures are concise and he gets the material across very effectively. I think by the end of the class I had six pages of notes total. Work hard on your trolley project and you'll get an A easily.

Cool guy. He even made an optional project for letters of rec.

He doesn't interact with the class much other than through his lectures. You're better off asking one of the TAs for help. This class is fairly easy except for the group project. It will take lots of time outside of class to complete and it's important that you work ahead on it, because even the teaching staff struggles with some issues in it.

Just good at his job. No nonsense lecture style, very clear and concise and knows the material and HOW TO TEACH the material like the back of his hand, really good at answering questions. Exams are exactly like the homework so the 3 homeworks a week are worth your time.

Excellent professor. Would recommend for ME 361. Very clear explanation of material and he always makes clear his expectations for exams. Also has a unique sense of humor that is indifferent, sarcastic, and quite hilarious at times. 10/10.

The grade of this course is based on lots of things, but he will explain it and give u reminar through out the semester. He did a great job on explain the lab topics and guest speaker he invited are all great. You will do quiz on almost all lectures so attend the good lecture.

God mode professor. He is making thermodynamics very understandable for me. There is a lot of homework though, which does suck but it is the best way to stay up to date on the material. Easy grader on the homework and the exams are easier than the hw assignments. Definitely don't skip lecture. Show up and do the assignments and you're clear.

Nellis's no-nonsense style may not be for everyone but he made Heat Transfer seem easy with his way of teaching. This was a summer course so there was a lot of homework crammed into an 8-week class but he made up for it by making the exams easier than the homework and giving ample examples to study.

Great professor. Made thermodynamics very understandable. Lots of homework that can take a significant amount of time. He never really mentions the textbook, which he wrote, but there are very similar examples to the homework in it, so use it when you get stuck. Exams are much easier than homework assignments. Great, funny guy overall.

One of the best ME professors I have ever seen. He gives great, interesting, and useful material in lecture and he appreciates your hard work.

He is extremely smart, but lacks the ability or willingness to explain material that is intuitive to him to students who are learning it for the first time. I connected with many students in this class and they all say the exact same thing and joke about which rude comment he said to a student that day. Good curriculum, but no support outside tutor

very nice and smart, the best professor I've met in university. explains everything super clear.

excellent professor. ridiculously smart. doesn't make the class impossible but you still have to work for it. This is what all professors should be like

This is the best Professor you would like to meet in university. What he teaches is beyond the knowledge from the course; I learned more from his attitude. Best professor.

He has a very dry sense of humor but is an awesome professor. The class is a lot of work but if you go to class he explains it well. Meaning you have a fighting shot at doing the HW well. Learned the most out of any class. Not easy by any means. Even though i didnt get a good grade still respectedenjoyed the class.

HE taught me more than all other classes through 4 semesters so far. So interesting, learned a ton. He expects a lot, but you get a lot out. If you have the option, take Nellis.

He is absolutely the best professor I have ever met so far in university life. Highly recommended!!! If you want to fall in love with thermo

Awesome teacher, no emotion, funny, wrote the book and has taught the class 100 times

Fantastic professor. Highly recommend taking class with him. Book possibly not needed, but tests are open book and open notes so are helpful then. Hard homework, but exams are then comparable easy. For our class, homework was 45% of grade while exams were 55%.

very helpful and fun. He definitely expects you to work hard in his class.

One of the bests profs ive had. HW and tests are usually pretty easy if you show up and take notes everyday.

Nellis covers heat transfer in a way that is useful and in context. He wrote a text on the subject and it is a valuable resource. The lecturer goes well beyond the typical limits of Heat Transfer and covers crucial engineering concepts that can be confidently applied to other courses and research work.

He is awesome.
