Professor Armstrong is one of the most passionate professors I've had. His lectures are pretty clear, and he's always available to answer questions. Homework is about 30-40 pages of readings per week and answering a few questions that weren't graded for accuracy. I really enjoyed his class and would highly recommend!

Grant is my favorite professor, I have taken multiple classes with him, and his passion for the topic always shines through in his lectures. He presents topics in a clear straightforward way and grades fairly. He provides consistent support for students and gives great help during office hours. It's clear that he actually cares about his students.

Grant was such a nerd about Spanish linguistics in the best way so he really knew what he was talking about! For what the content was, he made it somewhat interesting. Also, he graded fairly.

Solid lecturer who explains things well. Overall the class has been fairly easy, but I still feel that I learned a lot.

I liked the class and the professor! You could tell he was knowledgeable and genuinely liked the topics. There are two in-person exams and two take home "problems" that are the midterm and final. Discussion participation is worth the exams combined, so make sure you go to discussion and participate at least once. Pretty straight-forward class.

Very clear and understandable, manageable expectations. There is one discussion assignment each week. Slides are posted. He is very willing to help you if confused. There are discussion quizzes every once in a while, and a mix of exams and take-home problems. I thought lecture was great and he uses lots of example problems. Not super difficult.

Professor Armstrong is a witty, passionate guy who loves linguistics. I took this course slightly frightened by the comments of others on here, but mainly found them to be untrue. He assigns a lot work and there are many exams, but if you attend and participate in his lectures, this course should be no trouble. Great professor and great guy!

I found the class to be super clear and easy despite having no background in linguistics. He honestly doesn't ask much of you, the grade was just based on weekly quizzes, discussion attendance, and four written homework assignments that were due once a month. I also went to his office hours and found him to be kind and helpful with the material.

I would not take a class with him again. 225 was challenging and he graded very harsh.

This is supposed to be an INTRO class. He is the pickiest grader, he will never give an A. Whole class is graded on 3 homeworks, 2 exams, and 1 final; no participation grades. His "class" is just him reading off a slideshow for 1hr 15min. His exam questions are SO specific, nothing you can study for. Grading criteria/feedback unclear. STAY AWAY!!!!

Grant was the scariest professor I have had on this entire campus- he was so intimidating and this class was the hardest class I took during my entire Spanish major on campus. His tests were very difficult and the assignments were absolutely exhausting to complete. If you want to learn A LOT then take his class, but it's a real challenge!

Grant grades HORRIBLY. I am a native speaker and he always finds something wrong in your writing even if it's grammatically correct. He only accepts certain grammar styles and if it doesn't meet his style then your grade will suffer. Do not recommend this professor!

Grant is a very good professor for this class. I really enjoyed going to class every day and learning from him. He gives weekly quizzes and there is a writing assignment (essay, composition) due usually every week. He grades subjectively off your first assignment, but gives good feedback that allows for growth and improvement.

Clear expectations and a pretty straightforward class. Grant speaks a very slow and clear Spanish which makes understanding everything easier. The book is definitely not needed. Make sure not to skip much or you'll receive a grade lower than you actually deserve.

This was the worst Spanish class I've ever taken. We didn't speak Spanish throughout the semester and then were required to do a 20 minute presentation all in Spanish with no notes at the end of the semester. Huge waste of time and will decrease your Spanish-speaking skills.

He is a teacher so good. He is very smart and really teach you. I like so much his class.

This is my third class I have taken with him. He's my favorite professor of all time. I don't like small classes, but his I can handle. He's very, very organized and precise. He does grade toughly, but he's respectful and super nice to all students. I would absolutely recommend taking at least one of his classes.

Out of all the Spanish classes I've taken at UW so far, Grant's has been my least favorite. His directions are always on his assignments, but tends to be somewhat vague for some of the compositions and for his quizzes. Haven't been a fan. If you don't have to take him, take a pass for someone else. Hasn't been horrible, but at least no final.

Prof. Grant teaches pretty clearly in class but when someone has a question he doesn't know how to explain things in any other way than he already did. Goes through slides way too fast. Went to office hours multiple times and he was very unwilling to help. If you ask a question he thinks is dumb he will be condescending.

Excellent professor. Very dedicated to the subject matter and willing to communicate knowledge to students. His explanations were generally clear and precise, although when the class did not understand a specific topic, he would continue on. Homework and exams were challenging, but fair in relation to the level of the course. Did not use textbook.
