Franklin Miller was one of my favorite professors in my college career. His lectures were well presented and there was a lot of homework every week. The homework is heavy, but crucial for your success in his course. Very approachable and really cares about his students. I would recommend Miller to anyone in the ME department. He knows his stuff.
3 homeworks per week are definitely worth the time(big chunk of grade). HW can be challenging at times but they're the most important thing you can do for the exams. Exams themselves are more comparable to the easier homeworks. If you understand the basics of the material, you shouldn't have any problems.
2 homework assignments a week, if you do them it is a lot of work, but you can't get behind in the class. Very knowledgeable about the subject, you can get a lot out of office hours. Lectures are very useful too, take notes! They help a lot with homework and exams. Textbook'll occasionally be useful for homework.
Miller is a fantastic professor - However, the homework is barely related to the lectures or the textbook, so if you don't automatically know how to do it, you won't be figuring it out.
One of the worst professors I have seen. He'll answer questions during the exam. That's good. However, his handwriting is so bad and the lecture is boring. Also he doesn't really care about his students or try to understand them, even just a little bit. Questions in the exam usually not related to lecture slides. Having a book is all you need to do
Professor Miller was easily one of the best professors I've ever had. I went into Thermo with little interest and left with a fascination for the world. He REALLY knows his material and is remarkable at explaining it. Listening to him lecture can be truly inspiring, he is terrific at connecting the material to real-world applications.
He's the man. Worked at NASA, got his PhD at MIT
Franklin is an excellent Professor. Lecures were not required, but were very helpful in learnign the material. Homework was time consuming but realtively straght forward. He allows notes and book on the exams, which he is very clear abou the content covered. Definitely would recommend.
Teaches through Powerpoint, but it was effective enough. You can probably get by without going to lecture at all because the textbook is great. Homework is often in EES, and it takes quite a bit of time. Exams were pretty straightforward, but make sure you make good cheat sheets.
He is one of the best professors i have ever had. He explains concepts really well. He gets boring while using PPT slides. Often gives examples in class about how he dealt with problems that he solved during his NASA career. Use of EES is very extended. His homeworks are brilliant and are often focused on real life problems. AWESOME PROF!
A really amazing professor , very helpful , and heat transfer is a hard subject , makes it as easy as possible.
Great prof., tough class. HEAVY homework load; one assignment due at the start of each lecture and plan for a solid 3 hours for each one (if you want full credit). These assignments get old fast.
He's a fantastic professor. He's super helpful. Comfortable to approach. Just finished working for NASA so he totally knows what he's talking about, but he's able to teach it as well. Lots of homework, but then exams are pretty straight-forward. One of the best profs I've ever had.
He is very helpful. He is a great professor. Probably one of the best I have had. If i have the option to have him as a professor for another class i will.
