467 is not a course for the weak. If you take it you should be prepared for a minimum of 12 hours of work per week, maximum 20 hours. If you are truly committed to becoming a better filmmaker Erik will help you immensely. Erik's desires for 467 is that his students learn the fundamental skills of filmmaking so that they may experiment later.

This class will take up your entire life so be prepared. He is a tough grader but really this class rides on what group you're assigned to. If you don't get a good group, you're screwed.

This guy sucks. Rips on any risks taken and assigns everything over Canvas. Also has no real authority of the subject matter.

Worst professor I've ever seen... Oops! He's not even a professor.

A total unqualified instructor for CA467. Taught us nothing but assigned us a bunch of meaningless homework.

Worst instruct I've ever seen in this department...

The instruction of this course is super problematic. He assigned a huge amount of self-learning materials on Canvas but taught nothing on a 3.5hour "lecture". The assignments are not reasonable- 5 intensive shoot projects with bad scripts and tough grading. Finding actors for assignment is the hardest part of many students but he didn't help us.

Erik is the prof that every aspiring filmmaker should have. He's not gonna drone on about the correct way to do something or why something was wrong because those things don't exist in film. What he will do is provide critical feedback on your work from the perspective of an audience and a filmmaker. He is clearly passionate about helping students.

I hate this course, Erik managed to suck all the joy out of film production. There is no room for creativity or independent thought, during the lecture he just goes over materials from the quiz and calls on students one-by-one. Horrible class structure, boring instructor, and you have to sit through a three-hour lecture every week.

Very restricting class in terms of creativity. Gunneson runs a very tight ship and does not allow for students to implement their own technologies or equipment within the class. For an advanced level course (one required for UW Madison's Production certificate), I was very underwhelmed by the course structure and delivery.

Yes, this class is tough and a lot of work, but you get so much out of it. Erik gives excellent feedback and has high standards, so you really get a lot out of the class and learn more about what is expected in the film industry. Erik is down to earth and clearly knows what he's doing. By far, this has been the best class I have taken.

This was definitely the most challenging class I've ever taken, but it was great. It gave useful hands-on learning opportunities. But expect LONG shoots every other weekend with lots of preparations beforehand. And you're in the same group the entire semester so pray hard (lol). Erik was helpful in classes and is so knowledgable on everything!

Erik is a perfectly fine professor. He's knowledgable on the subject and is open to help (we called him at 9:30 in the evening for one of our shoots. But just know that if you take this class, you will be at least a little miserable. I'm learning a lot about production, but you will need to sacrifice a lot of time and effort for this class.

There are no grades given until the final course grade. Final course grade is completely arbitrary. You are required to do coursework equivalent to 6 credit hours for a 3 hour credit class and endure a lot of nonconstructive criticism. It is completely unreasonable.
