For Erik's lectures, he mostly read off slides, you need to work with the material on your own to do well on exams. If you study and work with the material on your own, you'll do well on exams. Erik does much better in the counterpart to this class, which is the lab AnSci 102.
Prof Ronk himself is a great guy. As for ANSCI 101 it is a very challenging course. LOTS of material covered, tests are online but you have to memorize like everything to do well. Fun material but very very detail oriented. The lab portion (102) is super fun and much better. Group paper is harshly graded.
I had to work hard for the A in this class. Between the tests being full of diverse content and the term paper being harshly graded, I was worried I was going to miss the mark. Make sure you review lecture material regularly and put in effort for the paper.
Professor Ronk is a great guy and he definitely knew what he was talking about. However, tests were extremely difficult and hard to study for as they were extremely detail-oriented. The group term-paper is also graded very harshly and did not boost grade as much as hoped. Tophat also gives extra credit so make sure to attend lecture.
I want to start by saying that Eric is overall a nice guy and he does know what he's doing (he's MUCH better in An sci 102 (the lab). However, he is not great in lectures. He essentially just reads off the slides and his tests aren't very fair at all. They're very detail-oriented and the questions aren't things the average person can remember.
This is the hardest class that I have taken as a first semester freshman. The course is no longer open note and I would guess the average to be around 80%. No curves on individual tests, waiting to see about final. Test questions are random and unfair; not really a good way to study. Term paper is hard and graded harshly. Wouldn't recommend
Lectures, some fascinating, some not-so-much. A broad overview of animal science; there's something here for everyone. Professor Ronk often runs ~5 minutes long, and the lecture material is sometimes dry. Tests are 100% open-note, and not difficult. There's 1 group project, graded a little harshly. Textbook optional. Overall, I recommend ANSCI 101.
I really enjoyed the material of this class, however it is hard to do well. There are few assignments that actually contribute to your overall grade and I thought they were graded tough. The tests are open note but there's always a handful of questions that I have never seen before and was not taught. I would take it again, but it was not easy.
Mr. Ronk was is a great teacher and I really enjoyed taking ANSCI 101! The lectures were always pretty interesting. There's a group term paper that is done over the course of the semester and the groups are randomized so it is pretty tough if you get a bad group. Material does get a little more difficult as time goes on; overall pretty easy though!
A little disorganized, but I chalk that up to the pandemic. Interesting class, but due to the normally interactive labs being replaced with online versions I would recommend taking this not online. There is a final research paper that you want to start early. Some group work but graded very leniently.
