Gives unnecessary long boring project. Does not even help for the tests. The tests have a lot of stuff she does not go over.
Her labs are awful and very tricky. When you ask her something she will rattle off topic. We were going to go on a boat ride but that did not happen. She makes us read a chapter book but it has nothing to do with the test.
She acts friendly in class but after class she is very rude. Students who ask her questions after class she will just laugh.
She cannot get the class together. She laughs goofs off and goofs and goes over very little in class. We were supposed to go on a boat ride but she could do it. And he assignment is the worst counts for a good portion of your grade.
She gives math problems on her tests but does not go over them in class. There was supposed to be a boat ride but we did not go on it. She does not update her syllabus and adds surprise work.
The labs were awful as was the boat ride and the homework. ANd poorly written tests. Highly incompetent.
What bugs me is she does not know how to use powerpoint for her lecturs and has sloppy notes and then gives a beyond challenging homework assignment. We were also suppossed to go on a boat ride but that did not happen due to some sort of issue. Glad it didn't.
Weak teaching. Cannot understand her or what she says because she constantly goes off topic and talks too fast.
Worst class of the year. I regret every bit of it. I knew I should I have to take a different bio class but I had to graduate due to financial reasons. She misses a lot fo things that are on the test never goes over in class talks off subject and sends others to present for for her who have no idea what the tests are like.
She laughs in class. Does not pay attention to her teaching ways and doeses off. Because of this there are so many things on her tests that she does not go over in lectures.
I cannot understand what she is teaching because she cannot communicate. Does not answer questions goes off topic.
She rushes through the class and not go over anything. Worst notes I have ever seen.
If she is one of your three professors, expect nothing short of failure. Right when I saw my grade for her atrocious exam I went through the 5 stages of grief at Cafe Hollander. I even threw my phone at the ground out of defeat. I studied the most for that exam for there to only be questions to trick you. But exam was so bad that the class curved.
So beyond boring. BY FAR the worst of the 3 lecturers in this course. Very loud, and goes through slides very fast. Tells us to let her know if we need more time, then sighs and gets impatient when students ask. I'm sure to some people ecology is interesting, but I found it boring, and hard to listen to.
She give you a tough computer assignment and puts questions on tests she never went over in class.
She doesn't know what she teaches. Can't give answers after class. She should take another class on teaching.
Horrible biology professor. This is a level one class and she can't even set it up well.
I wanted to say avoid at all cost, but you can't avoid her no matter what. Boring lectures, unenthusiastic, sad. Idk how she just made biology even more unbearable. Make sure to put your blood and sweat into this course if you want a decent grade, and her test is NOT EASY even it's ecology related. Many terms included in the test. Good luck...
Her class goes over unimportant material does not help and has a lot of stuff not in class.
She has mathematical problems but does not actually practice them and expect we know them. She refuse to answer questions and is just a rude person altogether.
I am so glad I did not take her around this time. She was horrible. Just imagine how much worse things would have been.
She is rude unhelpful and sends others to teach for her that are not aware of what she puts on the tests. She has her assistant Hillary Dugan teach for her, who is good but Stanley seems to write the tests herself which hard and very little from the class is on the test.
Had her as the third professor for Zoo 101. Had an A the entire semester until her final exam which was quite unrelated to what we learned in lecture. The final grades were posted and then pulled down in order to be modified with a curve. Thank goodness, because the exam would have ruined all of the work I had put into the class even more.
The novel she makes us read is pointless and has nothing to do with the test. Very time consuming. You can study ahead and prepare but she is never clear in class and has really and notes.
She is boring and her notes you have to fill out in lecture some which aren't even covered in the lecture. Math problems on the test are not in lecture.
Whatever math problems she says in class you'll have to study on your own or ask an assistnt she has. Be prepared to know excel be careful inquires from novel reading the tests are the worst I've taken.
She says a lot things in lecture that are unnecessary and not on her tests and has math problems she did very little on in class. Her computer assignment is a total drag this bio not computer sciences. Someone needs to straighten her out for this. The reading assignments only count for grade but waste time giving not time to study.
This class is ooly two credits and she makes seem like a five credit class. She needs to change her tests teaching skills and not mislead us.
This is the most unorganized boring biology class I have ever been in my whole life. An unhelpful lazy rude selfish teacher. She is praised too much when she should be scolded for bad teaching.
Stanley was one of my two favorite lecturers for Bio 101. Her lectures are clear and to the point and she jokes around which makes it interesting! She uses a lot of graphs which are helpful for visual learners to understand the material. She explained everything I needed when taking the exam, no surprises or trick questions. Very fair and nice!
The lab was bad but the lecture was awful. I wish they'd replace her.
So many tough concepts in class she does not go over all of them but they still end up on her tests. She makes us read a chapter that does not help w/ tests w/ her online quizzes. She makes you fill in the notes but she doesn't post slides online.
She makes up the test but sends others to speak for her class. Her tests are bad and most of the material ws never even taught in class.
This class is a 300 level class and only two credits why is it super hard. She could at least give us the right kind of homework and some activities to warm us up for her tough tests.
I think a lot of these comments are misleading? Yes Emily's lectures are a little sloppy at times and yes her classes are not easy, but I really believe she just has high standards, which is not a bad thing. She's not a cuddly person but then again she doesn't need to be. Don't take a class specifically for her, but don't avoid her either.
She gets too many awards. she maybe good at saving water, but she bad at teaching. She can get the worst bio teacher award.
This is class is horrible. Tests quizzes a whole lot of homework.
Worst tests worst professor who shows up to only some of her lectures. Has a bunch of other speakers who don't know what to talk about and because of that the things on the tests were not in lecture.
I have been in much easier classes worth 4 credits with labs than hers. Her class should not be so hard.
Whenever I came to her office she was rude and lazy. She gave me wrong hints of what could be on her exams. Her lectures are some of the most boring and pointless lectures I've been to.
Her lecture and lab were some of the worst ever.
Her bio class was awful I don't think I ever had a teacher as bad or as rude as her.
It is all just based on her lectures which are very boring. She does not know how to teach. It really hard to take notes in her class.
Her class was the worst field class that I have ever taken in my entire life. She doesn't care about her students.
She gives too many quizzes based on the chapter book that has nothing to do with the tests and count very little. Her notes have no writing on them and she doesn't even post them online, The firs quiz had math problems which we did very little in class.
She was unhelpful and her lectures were so boring her tests are mix of multiple choice fill in he blanks definitions and explain why this or that is tha happens. They were some of the hardest test I ever took.
Almost all of your grade falls on the tests but are nearly impossible to study for given the breadth of the material discussed during class. Many times there were questions on the test I didnt have in my notes at all. Returning students from the field had a hard time with the tests. Too many guest speakers, didnt know what was important.
Doesn't post lecture slides, does not care if students succeed. Expects you to scramble and write down all material on the slides as she goes, no supplemental readings whatsoever. Completely based on lecture, so don't skip! Extremely condescending and rude if you meet with her.
Throughout the semester I liked prof. Stanley a lot! She was hilarious and made lecture pretty interesting. But by the end of the semester I realized her slides were very unorganized and when I got to the tests, they were so situational that I didn't know what to do. Hopefully in the future she makes what is expected more clear
I love Professor Stanley! She makes lectures fun. Her test was still super hard, but I like her as a teacher.
Stanley is really funny. She manages to make what would be some of the world's most painfully boring lectures tolerable. I liked her a lot. That being said, limno was one of the dumbest classes I've ever taken. I would not recommend it unless you are extremely interested in learning the most mundane facts about lakes.
The absolute worst professor I have ever had. She was very unhelpful and misguided me on the material whenever I went in to meet with her.
Really interesting professor. She is VERY helpful in office hours and she's so friendly. I really liked her. Attendance is definitely mandatory. I didn't miss ONE class because I knew I couldn't miss the info. The exams are very difficult. All short answer and the averages are low. Ended up with a B. Do well on the assignments to help your grade.
very funny teacher. her topics are very interesting too(evolution and stuff).
Stanley is a fine teacher that knows the material well and presents it in a clear and effective manner. More importantly, she is hilarious. It's a shame that she only teaches a couple weeks of the semester.
out of all the zoo 101 profs, stanley was by far the best!! she made lecture interesting and threw in a few jokes here and there to keep everyone's attention. overall, her test questions were easiest too...basically memorize her stuff and you're good to go!
Really enjoys teaching this stuff. Tests are pretty straight forward. Gives out old exams. Take the lab section too...Field trip is tons of fun. Loads of writing in lab. I mean tons!
Class is so boreing its not even funny. The book is worthless, and for some lousy reason they don't post the whole PPT slides on the net, so you have to attend lecture. But the tests are wicked easy, so its got that going for it.
She is very nice and a good lecturer, but she cannot write test questions for crap.
She is a good teacher, but she miss represented facts about evolutionary theory on several occassions and wouldn't own up to it. (darwin was lamarckian about acquired characteristics...look it up)
"Not cool!" "That is so condescending" -haha...Geico. Prof makes material more interesting and tries to add a light note in once in awhile to keep students attention.
She makes Zoo more understandable by putting it into terms that even a caveman could understand...
