Ewa is the best language teacher I've had—demanding, often cold-calling students, and not for everyone. But her well-designed course and high standards ensure you learn a lot if you stick with it. A special focus is on grammar which many students struggle with. A lot of opportunities to practice grammar, speaking, writing and listening.

She is so so so mean. Like, outwardly, in class, in front of all your peers. It happened to me, it happened to countless others. It's embarrassing. I regret not just taking the M/W/F class. She's not even worth a T/Th.

I have a love/hate relationship with this class. Grading is very harsh, and she is not particularly forgiving of mistakes. She's a cold-caller and the class might damage your self-esteem. That being said, this was also some of the highest quality education I've ever had. The class is well-taught, but is not for the faint of heart.

As said in other reviews, there are a ton of awesome UW French professors, but Ewa is not one of them. I don't think being so harsh is the best way to get kids to learn French.

While my French did improve, Ewa did her best to make this the least enjoyable French class of my life. The intimidation made me less willing to speak as compared to the other AMAZING and KIND professors in the UW French department.

Ewa is a great teacher, but be ready to work. She gives out a lot of homework each week and you actually have to put in a lot of time. She is a cold caller, which makes class not super enjoyable.
