Prof. Livorni is an awesome teacher; you can really see his love for the subject. Every day, the classes felt more like an exciting conversation than a lecture. I would definitely take a class with him again.
Lots of reading but not overwhelming, study resources are provided, exams are open note, lectures are interesting and funny, and he cares about students/engages with them
Take his FIGG PLEASEE you wont regret it ! Amazing professor, who shows he cares about his students not only in his classroom but also outside. Get ready to read many books, which you will then write about, but prompts given are manageable and you will do just fine! I would take this course again if I could!
Ernesto is a great professor. He is kind, passionate, considerate, helpful, and genuinely funny. I took his FIG course and thoroughly enjoyed the literature and content. He is also very approachable and always willing to discuss questions and concerns. I will definitely be taking another one of his courses.
I loved this class so much. he is a wonderful professor and I always loved coming to class to see him! the course was interesting and not too difficult. Ernesto is very invested in the material and he made me excited about it too!!! I wish I could take every class from him.
i love ernesto so much take his class he is the best professor ever
I took ernesto's FIG. Ernesto is super funny, and his lectures admittedly may be boring but he makes it worth while. There's a total of ~8 ish books to read throughout the semester, but he gives enough time. Grade is based off midterm, final, and 2 big papers. (Final paper 10-12 pages long).
gave us 5 different books to read throughout the semester. Get ready to write a 10 page paper towards the end of the semester.
One of my favorite professors. He is passionate about the material and his main goal is for his students to learn and explore. Midterm and final papers were literature analysis, and a final research paper were you can explore anything. Less structure really lets you dig into your interests and lectures discuss interesting topics. Take his FIG!
I literally created this account so that I could praise this man. I was in his FIG last year, and though it was my first ever semester at UW, he remains my favorite professor I've had so far. Ernesto is one of the most endearing, genuinely funny, genuinely caring, and most intelligent professors you'll ever encounter. I promise.
Ernesto is so funny and friendly, his Italian translated literature course was the bedrock of my first semester and he made it so easy to adjust to college life. I wish i could take him again!
Livorni is an outstanding professor who really loves his students. He made my early morning Friday class very enjoyable. He does a great job of explaining confusing concepts to the class. I miss him and wish I could have him again.
He truly cares about the topics he covers, but always attempts to make jokes that completely miss the point. His class is structured in a way that gives no safety nets (three papers worth 30% each) and lectures are long and boring.
Took his course at Midd MA program, was the worst course I have ever had, he has favorites and doesn't teach you anything. Avoid.
I took his course through Middlebury Language school this past summer. I would recommend to avoid his class, he has favorites and gives the others a very hard time. And for what, learned absolutely nothing.
Avoid this professor, was a waste of time, learned nothing.
Everything is a joke - it is very tiring after a while. Then he is so critical on the assignment papers and give low grades. At least this is the Italian course - maybe he is easier in the English courses.
Good guy. Really into the material and knows it well. He is pretty funny and gives an interesting lecture. I don't understand all these negative comments. if you take an English language class with him, you should have no problems with grading or difficulty
My gpa will suffer because anything I do isn't good enough for this professor. He is set on giving low grades no matter what. He has favorites and I am not one of them. Take someone else.
I have him now and wish I could drop this class. No matter how much you try, he is critical. I will never take him again.
This professor is a harsh grader who assesses non native speakers as though they were native. He is not fair in assgning grades and does not want to help the student receive a good grade or improve. It was a terrible expereince and if you care about your gpa, avoid this professor and take someone else.
A consummate professional. He stays very much in tune with the work at hand; leaves his emotions out of his relationship with students. A quality professor.
I wish Ernesto was my best friend. He is funny and fun and absolutely knows what he's talking about, which is vital as he's always talking. He cares about what his students think, which is rare.

Excellent class. can be a little difficult to understand due to italian accent, but has great grasp of subject and is very animated.
