One of the best courses I've ever taken. I thought it was going to be hopelessly boring, but man I was wrong. The readings were pretty long and you HAVE to read them to pass, but they are usually interesting (sometimes not). No pressure of exams - it's all essay based. Professor Schatzberg is a great professor. He clearly enjoys what he teaches and has a passion for the topics. Definitely expect a lot of reading though. Most of the readings are interesting, but some can be dry. He took a lot of our feedback to heart, and may change the more dry readings. I am very pleased with this class. He assigns three 3-4 page essays instead of exams, and I feel that really helped me apply the material instead of memorize it. Is it an "easy-A?" - nah, you work for your A. However, there is not a lot of pressure that would be typical in an exam-based class. One of the best professors at Madison IMO. Would suggest this course to anyone. Is really clear in lectures and for the most part on grading, and always gives amble opportunity for kids to do well in the class. Professor Schatzberg is really passionate about the subjects he speaks about. He is energetic in lectures which make the boring subjects a little easier to listen to. No midterms or final just three (3-4 page) papers. The TA Stephen was a tough grader on the papers but he said if you show improvement over the semester, your grade will reflect.Rate My Professors ↗
