because the content was poorly organized and lectures were disjointed. Her accent made it hard to understand lecture, when she showed up. The required reading was her own book, which was interesting. I dreaded this class. I got a B because there didn't feel like enough material to study and the tests didn't reflect class","source_url":"https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/professor/1420841","quality_rating":2,"difficulty_rating":4},{"observed_at":"2026-09-07 16:41:13.702099+00:00","run_id":"20260907T155543-ce3781c4","source_review_id":"UmF0aW5nLTIzMzYxMTQz","source_instructor_id":"rmp:1420841","instructor_name":"Emiko Ohnuki-Tierney","course_label":"ANTHRO104","course_id":"ANTHRO 104","course_uid":"course_18420930f9ee0380350a345f","review_date":"2014-06-10 17:39:12 +0000 UTC","comment":"Great class. OT is extremely knowledgeable and has a deep understanding of the subject. While some seem frustrated with the Japan heavy material, the culture is simply a device she uses in to exhibit different aspects of the subject. She is friendly and encourages students to come to office hours. Exams are based on the notes and readings.","source_url":"https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/professor/1420841","quality_rating":5,"difficulty_rating":2},{"observed_at":"2026-09-07 16:41:13.702099+00:00","run_id":"20260907T155543-ce3781c4","source_review_id":"UmF0aW5nLTIzMDQ5ODI3","source_instructor_id":"rmp:1420841","instructor_name":"Emiko Ohnuki-Tierney","course_label":"ANTHRO104","course_id":"ANTHRO 104","course_uid":"course_18420930f9ee0380350a345f","review_date":"2014-04-16 17:50:05 +0000 UTC","comment":"I actually enjoyed the subject material but the class was organized very poorly and it was hard to know what would be on the exams. To add insult to injury, an entire section had to have an exam postponed due to the wrong exam sheets being printed. Poorly organized. Not difficult, but probably in your best interest to avoid.","source_url":"https://www.ratemyprofessors.com/professor/1420841","quality_rating":1,"difficulty_rating":2},{"observed_at":"2026-09-07 16:41:13.702099+00:00","run_id":"20260907T155543-ce3781c4","source_review_id":"UmF0aW5nLTIzMDQwNTM2","source_instructor_id":"rmp:1420841","instructor_name":"Emiko Ohnuki-Tierney","course_label":"ANTHRO104","course_id":"ANTHRO 104","course_uid":"course_18420930f9ee0380350a345f","review_date":"2014-04-15 12:25:11 +0000 UTC","comment":"She is definitely not helpful. She makes the class as boring as possible. You would think anthropology is an interesting class but she definitely goes out of her way to prove that wrong. Not a hard class but a complete waste of time. OT is senile and has no idea what's going on. You are supposed to learn about other cultures but all you learn about is JAPAN'S culture.
