She's smart, nice, and entertaining. She goes through the information quickly in the lectures, so you must pay close attention and not miss class. The problem I had was that she's a tough grader but doesn't offer a lot of feedback. If you put the effort in, you'll probably get the grade you want.

I took Bearden's English 543 class, and while the content was engaging, I didn't like her teaching. She was a harsh grader without providing much feedback at all, and she shut down students who participated in class if they gave an answer she didn't like. As a result, I felt discouraged from participating and didn't look forward to her class.

Professor Bearden was a really engaging lecturer, and made her content extremely accessible. The papers were somewhat difficult, but if you have paid attention to lectures and read the texts you will be fine. I wish I could have had her as a professor in person.

Professor Bearden is awesome. She is very caring, understanding and always willing to help. I appreciated the effort she put into the class. I can tell she is passionate about what she is talking about and I truly enjoyed and learned something from every lecture. She also gives great paper feedback so that you can improve next time. Great class!

I absolutely loved Professor Bearden. She is easily accessible and understanding, plus her lectures are awesome. She makes the material very relatable and entertaining and she understands the point you are trying to get across in your forums and papers. She also has a service dog! 5 stars for her aweosomness, she is seriously one of a kind.

Bearden is a very knowledgeable and passionate. She is also generous grader in that she tends to give higher grades than one may think he deserves. If you're taking 328, make sure you know at least two or three of the readings very well, and you'll be able to lean on them for papers. Also, ask for extensions if you need them.

This was a 2 and a half hour seminar that met once a week, but it was really more like a 2 and a half-hour lecture. It was really long, but as long as you did the readings then the seminars were pretty fun and interesting.

Professor Bearden is one of the most intelligent humans I have ever met. Her lectures are very well organized and engaging. Engl182 requires a lot of in-class participation there is never a fear of "looking stupid" in class. She assigns a lot of reading and expects high quality work, but as to be expected with the course. Overall great professor.

Bearden is one of the best professors that I've had at UW. She is so knowledgable and is incredibly accommodating if you don't quite understand the material. She is a more than fair grader.

You learn so much in a short time. If it gets overwhelming come to her office hours, she works hard so you understand it. My essay writing skill improved the most with her help- both as essay comments and by asking questions If you work hard she rewards it- and you come out a better reader and writer My favorite professor!

Professor Bearden is one of the best English professors that I've had at UW-Madison. She is a magnificent orator that is clear and concise when presenting the material. Your hand will be cramped up by the end of class, but it's well worth the details that win her over on the take home midterm and 10-12 page final paper. Expect cold calls in class.

Passionate about what she teaches, but she assigns an absurd amount of reading (ie. 150 pages to be read between Tuesday and Thursday). Especially frustrating considering she spends only one class period per reading assignment on the material with little to no prep on what you're reading next and why and how it fits.

Prof Bearden is awesome. Her lectures are super engaging and she definitely makes an effort to make the texts more understandable-- lots of videos, etc. You definitely will need to go to class. If you miss one, make sure to get the notes from someone. Overall, great class, but the exams are tough so study hard!

Very clear teaching style, and very engaging. She makes you work hard and participate in class, but will do everything she can to make sure you finish the semester with an A. Loves her work, and it shows - she really cares about the students. Love taking classes with her!

A ton of work. Lectures were interesting but extremely information intensive. She is clearly passionate about teaching and wants to make sure that you are actually learning something from her classes. Lectures use little to no visuals so if you are a visual learner I would not recommend taking her class.
