I took online East/West Philosophy at MATC during the 2020 pandemic. The format was great/varied: in-person lectures, independent reading/viewing/discussion. Homework is very manageable if you study smart. One exam (open notes), one final project. Sometimes she took a long time to grade. I was fortunate to have Prof. Swartzentruber as a freshman at Wake Forest Univ. for "Intro. to the Christian Tradition." I was a 2001 WFU grad, and after all these years, her kindness & confidence still speaks to me as a Christian woman who has now worked in academia for most of my career. She is strong & whip smart! :) Highly recommended! :)
I really loved this class. It was engaging and inspiring! Elaine is fabulous, very personable and understanding. She takes a while to grade things and is somewhat disorganized - those are my only complaints. But I would still take this class a million times over again. The syllabus is intimidating (600 word discussion post weekly, project/paper worth 50% of grade) but she was very relaxed. As long as you complete the assignments you'll do well in this class. She is intelligent and knows a lot about Islam (lived in Indonesia). The material was refreshing and different from other GWS courses. Would recommend.Rate My Professors ↗
Favorite prof at UW!! She has a PhD in Gender Studies AND Islam. She's been all over the world & loves to share her knowledge. Super open-minded, wants everyone to grow and succeed!
