This man must be protected at all costs. Professor Rouse has been one of my favorite professors at UW Madison by far. He cares for his students so much and knows all of us by name! He really cares about plant pathology and what he teaches which makes the class very engaging and interesting. Put in the work and you can definitely get an A

I recommend this course since I've heard it has a higher average than Zoo153 and Rouse is a really nice guy. However, beware that Rouse's class is FRUSTRATING at times since he tangents during lectures, takes case/test questions from the internet (which are usually confusing and ill-suited to the topic), and is not a timely grader or communicator.

Prof. Rouse is without a doubt one of my favorites so far at UW. His material is interesting and challenging, however, his presence in all of our labs made him very accessible when anyone needed help. He has the most enthusiasm I have seen in a professor here; everyone had a phenomenal time. Have a good attitude in lab and study a bit, easy A!

Dr. Rouse has the high order of covering the topic of ecology in about 1 month. He teaches it very well, including the global and even social implications involved. People struggle with the brevity of the unit as well as the math he expects his students to understand, but if you know the most basic calculus, or even if you don't, you'll be ok.

Professor Rouse is very smart and puts a lot of care into his work. I enjoyed his lectures, especially when he would recite poetry! It's important to pay close attention during lectures because he doesn't put many words on his slides, but as long as you listen well and take good notes you should be fine.

Professor Rouse was a very passionate teacher. He was very excited about the subject material and gave a lot of real life examples in class. For me, the examples helped me learn better, but may have confused others. He recited poems from memory which made class interactive and enjoyable. Very good guy.

Professor Rouse is an awesome professor and lab instructor. This class was both fun and educational.

Dr. Rouse is a really great guy, who likes to talk to his students before lecture. As a lecturer, he's not great but not bad either. Sometimes he gets really vague about what he's talking about but other times he goes into a lot of detail about a simple concept. Weirdly recites a lot of poetry, which can get annoying. Simple unit. Easy test.

His lectures are all over the place and a bit confusing at points. Go to the review session, he drops mega hints as to what is on the test. His tests consist largely of graph interpretations.

Dr. Rouse is a very sweet guy. The ecology unit is okay, and he is a bit math heavy but math is a necessary part of ecology (not many formulas were actually used on the test). Recited poems from memory in class, which if you have a good mindset are very funny. Ask questions during the exam, and during class if needed. Good teacher, good guy.

Rouse was my least favorite teacher of the three for 152. He taught Evolution and was a terrible teacher. Was not clear about his guidelines and his test was wordy. I think he would have been good for plants (what he naturally teaches and works with), but for ecology, I did not learn anything from him.

Rouse is an alright professor. His exams are easy, as he stresses exactly what you need to know during his lectures. When people were concerned about what they needed to know about for exams, he literally took half a lecture to explain to everybody how to listen to his lectures. He is helpful and interactive, which makes him a good professor.

Rouse was amazing. I liked him more than our other lecturer, Blair, because he was interactive. His chats on l@UW were helpful and he was always open to hearing how class was going. His tests were fair if you went to lecture. He even gave a few questions out in class of what would be on the exam. Definitely recommend! I wish I had him for 152!

Is all over the place even though he goes through each chapter, can be unclear about what will be on the exam

Doug absolutely loves plants! His tests are right from the lecture slides and are straightforward. He was very willing to work with students we asked if we could use a note sheet and even if we could do corrections. He was willing to let us do both. Fantastic professor but, can take awhile with grades.Don't expect learn@uw to be updated right away.

Extremely helpful! Very knowledgeable, interesting, funny and all around great professor. Made a class I was dreading actually very fun.

Take note of what he says is important. Test questions can be very specific, so definitely read the text! May give away exam questions at review sessions. Awesome guy, although his poems can invoke eye-rolls after they lose their novelty.

I loved Prof. Rouse. He knows every student by name and is very passionate. His exams are straight out of lecture material. He's not confusing at all if you pay attention and ask for clarification if you're confused.

Professor Rouse is a decent professor. He is very interested in plants and brings a down-to-earth approach to teaching. Sometimes the lectures are disorganized, but the exams are fair and he is very personable. The lab is great, probably one of the best I've had at Madison (and I have essentially no interest in botany).

Sweet man, but not meant to be a teacher. His passion for plants and ecology translates into incomprehensible lectures, providing more confusion than clarity. Exams are worded foolishly, and based entirely off the book--including information never discussed in lecture.

Great professor, lectures are occasionally confusing, but always engaging. Overall he follows the book closely and is very helpful during office hours and review sessions. He loves what he teaches, and you can tell he enjoys teaching it too. Exams can be detailed, but are still fair. Take his section, especially if you like plants, poetry or both!

Not very clear lectures- seem jumbled and just barely touching on the surface of topics during lecture but expects details on exams. Recites poetry during lectures as if he's amazing. Material isn't very difficult though- I didn't care for him but got an A. Not a professor who you should go out of your way to avoid, but has room for improvement.

Professor Rouse is a great guy and you can tell he really enjoys his job. He has a good sense of humor, and lectures are usually interesting. The only problem is that you'll have to really read the textbook well to get a full understanding of the lecture. But Dr. Rouse is very helpful, even gives away exam questions at his review sessions!

Rouse is a very nice guy and a decent professor. Attending lecture and reading the textbook are VERY important in his class. Exam was very difficult and simply "knowing" the material is just not enough to get an A. Have to understand the way things tie into each other and have to think deeply on certain concepts on the exam.

A good professor who is genuinely excited about his stuff. Pretty clear lectures and his exams strictly follows the book. Study hard and you should be fine! He does read poems about plants, and that's...funny i guess?

Well.. He isn't the best prof in the world, but not bad I guess.. I mean, compared to Miles, he's good because Miles was.. awful.. Anyways, his exams is fair for what he taught in his course. His favorite protein is Rubisco and he recites poems during his lectures and you need to clap and pretend you enjoyed it.

Good guy. Does do the best he can and i probably learned more from him than from Miles or Bohanan without reading the book. Exam review did give away a few questions. Likes to recite poetry for the class.

Great guy who REALLY enjoys plants and wants us to too. Makes it interesting and is very willing to explain things and answer questions.

loved him- best of the three we had. he was nervous sometimes and it sometimes felt he went all over hte place, but really, if you read before class like you're supposed to, you wouldnt be lost. i'm taking his section next semester and cant wait!

He really tries to get your interest about plants. Most students are pre-health of some sort so animals are their focus. However, he really tries. Go to his review for exam-he gave away like 8 questions. Pretty much made the best out of the worst section, in my opinion.

Amazing prof, you need to take him! Such a sweet approachable guy.I had gotten a D on my first exam, and he was the second teacher/exam giver for the class so I asked him if he could meet with me.He met with me whenever I asked even outside of office hours.I got a B in the class and it was definitely because of him.He really wants you to do well.

plant path 300. Book is unneccessary. Don't even buy. lab is really fun. reallllllllly nice class, great profs. recommended!! careful of the final. its a doozy

very helpful and truly cares for his students and made the class go quickly b/c he engaged you into his lectures.

We had three lecturers this year and he is by far my favorite. Very enthusiastic, friendly, and really wants you to understand the material he's teaching.

Great Professor. He gives me hope for my education!

Awesome prof!! The guy will talk to you before and after lecture about anything. Likes to recite poems in class! Just a fun guy that knows his stuff and keeps you awake during plant lectures that would normally put anyone to sleep!

Great professor! He's very excited to come to lecture and teach...very excited about plants and actually made the botany section interesting, even though I've never thought botany was that exciting. Straightforward and good structure to lectures. Overall, one of the best professors I've had.

Reallly easy class but lectures are boring, i fall asleep 75% of the time or just dont go period, but still 85% average on exams, Get note card on exams which is huge, i never even bought the book either so dont waste the money on it or that damn clicker. So all in all, gaurenteed B.

He is one of the best professors that I have ever had at madison. Interesting and complete. the test was representative of lecture. Great guy to talk to as well

Awesome prof!!! way better than stafford. interesting and really funny. made me weirdly excited about plants and i really don't care that much. Test really straightforward, no trick questions. HIGHLY recommended! AWESOME PROF! and i don't say that too often.

Great professor, very sweet guy, reminded me of Conan O'Brien... He knew his stuff and was always excited to teach and did his best to make things interesting.
