The class is really interesting, but all of the learning you do is done through sections and taught by the TAs. There isn't a point in really going to the lecture or even taking notes, except that attendance is mandatory. He mostly rambles, and almost none of the lecture content is on tests—nice guy, but just not my fav lecturer.
If you have the opportunity, please take a class with Doug. Every class was filled with insightful discussion that was tailored to the students' interests. He pushed us to do our very best in our projects beyond earning a high grade, which helped us to maximize our potential. We also had lots of snacks :)
Super good class and I learned quite a bit last year. Dr. Rosenberg was interesting to hear speak, sometimes a little tiresome but easy to comprehend with a clear passion for what he teaches. The TAs were also so helpful and personable. Just show up, take pretty good notes, and review for like 30 minutes before the exams and you're golden.
Doug is exactly what you want from a professor. The lecture is engaging and follows the curriculum and homework, TAs are excellent teachers and personable, and midterm and final require minimal prep work if you attend lectures.
Doug does the lectures for art 108, his lectures are pretty fun listening to, as long as you take notes in his lecture and you go to discussions you should be good to go for the midterm and final.
super fun class if you are interested in art history.
fun guy but you get back what you put into the class
Do not buy the textbooks! Well you can if youre interested in art history. I personally hated them, as theyre filled with lots of jargon and complicated writing that defeated the purpose of understanding. Lectures are good, theyre also very good at going over precisely whats cover in the exams right before the exams. Fun projects too.
Such an easy class! I barely payed any attention and I got an A. Although, I did learn A LOT more than I anticipated. Quite interesting actually for a science major! My TA Rebecca was awesome, I lucked out! For exams, be able to describe the major artists discussed in lec/discussion & their works/what they are known for and you are golden!
Overall a boring class for me, but the easiest class I've ever taken in college. Must go to class. Don't need to do any of the readings, just take good notes in lecture (allows laptops) and you'll be fine. There are take-home assignments in discussion - really easy. He tells you exactly what you need to know for the 1 midterm and final.
Good introductory course on art. Class was pretty easy as long as you showed up to everything and took notes. 2 Textbooks were required but I didn't have either of them and managed to do fine as everything important is discussed in class.
Professor Rosenberg is very kind and if you are interested in art, his lectures are great. This class is definitely an easy A if you pay attention in discussion and turn in all your assignments and projects on time. I did other homework in lecture and still got an A.
Good Prof. for art lec., an easy A and very interesting subject material - something for everyone. Would recommend.
Great class. I took 108 and 208 both taught by Rosenberg. He is a little robotic--reads right from text book, and summarizes a little in class. He seems like a nice guy, wish he talked about himself and his art more. Dont know anything about him, but I do know a lot about Art History now--lol. Everyone gets A's. For real.
Doug is awesome! I really enjoyed his lectures and his curation of contemporary art (he even discussed a few UW-Madison alumni in this course!). He did a nice job connecting works to the themes in various eras of art and structured his course very well. Great course to take if you need an easy but enjoyable credit!
Professor Rosenberg has really captivating lectures. The class "requires" two textbooks; I read the first and it was really difficult. Midterm came along, turns out I didn't need it. You go over everything in class. Didn't even touch the second textbook and flew through the final. Go to class and it's an easy A.
If you put away your laptop & actually listen, Professor Rosenberg gives very strong lectures (they seemed to pick up as the semester went on). He puts lots of thought into the works in his curation of Contemporary Art and, while it seems sort of scripted at times, he is very passionate about this subject & gives great analysis of artist's works.
Reads off slides for lectures, boring and long but notes are important. Provides study guides for exams but reviews them very little. Very unclear of what he expects on exams, etc. very unorganized class and boring if you're not interested in art. Expect a ton of reading that is very hard to interpret.
