(ECE 204) Dimitris was an alright lecturer, but this class is designed for people who've coded before even though the syllabus says it isn't a prerequisite. Lectures go pretty fast if you haven't ever coded before, but that seems common for comp sci classes here. He has a bit of an accent too.

This class is very difficult, and Dimitris managed to make it chewable and taught it well. The reversed format of the class worked well with him and the other prof answering any questions about the material on the exercises. He was also really helpful in office hours and concisely answered questions about problems on the exam and homework.

He spent lecture time discussing a recent AI chatbot instead of focusing on the course content. I understand that he may be excited about this technology but it was not relevant to the course and I felt like I was not getting the most out of my education. I expect my teachers to prioritize teaching the course material and helping me learn.

He is a nice guy. Easy A with almost no effort. However, do not expect to learn something useful from taking a course with him. The technical quality of the class is pretty low.

Very helpful prof

My personal opinion: Prof. Dimitris Papailiopoulos brings some of the best flipped classroom courses at UW Madison. He makes concise (usually 5-15min for each period) videos with clear presentation slides. Activity problems are very reasonable and guide you learning. Review sessions are given before exams and unexpected problems rarely occur.

Great course, very friendly prof. Helpful, and leads you to the correct answers, without just telling you.

Great guy. Explains complicated problems during the WisCEL exercises. Barry Van Veen does the lecture videos and they are done very well. Prof Papailiopoulos is very easy to talk to and a very nice person.
