Deb is respected, kind, and very helpful. You really do learn a ton about PR in this course, but it is A LOT of work. Genuinely feels like an unpaid internship since you are creating a plan for a real client and have to rely on group members to pull their weight. Stress of the workload really adds up if you're taking other high-level classes.

Deb is my favorite J-School lecturer. She was super caring for me as a student and wanted the best learning experience for all of her students. I learned a lot and she is very passionate about her teaching. Deb is amazing and knows a lot about her topic. Would def take again.

We had real client this semester, and except the first few classes she introduced the brief of the client, she didn't teach anything except give the class time as work time. She 100% supported and gave feedback to media relations team but almost ignored the other two groups which are creative and social media team. I learned 0 PR knowledge!

Deb thinks that her class should be her students #1 priority during a global pandemic, and dismisses any class concerns by saying were all busy, ignoring the lives and experiences of students. She also has 0 regard for the ethical implications of Public Relations she condoned marketing a psychoactive substance to addicts.

Deb is tough, almost like a real-world boss because that's what she expects from her students, but will give good feedback if you really present yourself as willing to learn from her. A portion of your overall grade is professionalism in class. She's an easy grader and genuinely wants the best for her students, but definitely has favorites.

Interest in advertising doesn't matter- being a teachers pet does. J449 was one of the least positive college experiences I've had. The guidance on putting together strategies and research would have made sense if the client didn't suck (a real agency wouldn't take that work). Group work is very dog eat dog. Deb was not very accommodating at all.

She is very passionate about what she teaches and if you show interest and enthusiasm, she will like you. She is willing to communicate and negotiate if you come to her reasonably and respectfully. Never had a prof more willing to mold assignments and deadlines to the stress levels of her students. Class gives you real-world work experience

Great class, great real-world experience. You're assigned to an "agency" team with a few other students who you'll be working with the entire semester, and you work for a real client. If you work well in a group, you'll do fine in this class. Deb can be a little unclear sometimes, but nothing an email or question after class can't fix.

By far the greatest class I've taken at UW. Deb managed to recruit a real client for us to work for all semester, making it feel like our work really mattered. Deb goes above and beyond to help students develop both in the classroom and professionally.

Deb is a good teacher and a relatively easy grader. She is always willing to help when you don't understand something. I had her for 2 classes and I would definitely recommend her.

Probably the worst 'professor' I have had in college. There are no redeeming qualities to her teaching style -- she manages to be both condescending and totally incoherent at the same time. The book is hardly used, except for trick questions on her exams. Also, no matter what size the class is, there is only a 25% chance she'll know your name.

The worst instructor I have ever had! She thinks that the only thing you have to do is her class and assigns ridiculous amounts of homework. She plays favorites so much it is disgusting, and can't take any student feedback that doesn't worship her. Avoid her classes at all costs, trust me.
