Professor Danaher truly cares about his students and his work. He comes to class every day full of energy and his upbeat attitude makes classes engaging and interesting. For homework, we usually had short readings and throughout the semester we wrote a couple of essays that were the majority of our grade. If you need a literature class take this!!!
Professor Danaher was a joy to have as a professor. He always had a very positive attitude and clearly loves the subject he teaches. Assignments were graded leniently, but you need to do the readings and participate in discussions to perform the best you can on them. Overall, he made a subject I was initially skeptical about interesting and fun.
super engaged and enthusiastic about the materials, leaves detailed feedback on writing assignments, grading scale is clear and fair. heavy on readings and the films can be a bit dry, but he still makes them interesting in lecture. great choice for a literature credit!!
very nice, very understanding, and very well-versed in Czech culture and linguistics. absolutely would recommend to anyone interested in learning Czech! best decision I ever made in college.
Project guidelines weren't very clear and the readings were long. Lectures were just the prof reading off a slideshow and asking different questions than had been on the reading questions handout.
Hist 254 is such a cool class, especially if you enjoy thinking about cultures, psychology, and dissent. Lectures are the best part of the class and if you attend them you'll do fine. Danaher is funny and entertaining and there are great guest lectures!
Prof Danaher was one of the best I've had at UW. He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable. Discussion in his class feels more like a comfortable conversation than a forced discussion. As well, learning about Vaclav Havel was always interesting. Grading was two journals and a final paper, along with self-assessed participation. Amazing professor
I've had the pleasure to have had Danaher for two classes (SLAVIC 254 and LIT TRANS 208), he is the sweetest professor I've had and he really cares for his students. I would say that Slavic 254 was an easier course reading wise, and Lit trans 208 had ALOT more reading compared to it.
He's so passionate about what he teaches he basically jumps up and down the entire lecture. The content is interesting and there's an overwhelming amount of work involved. The course has two exams and two papers with no final. There are small weekly quizzes. An easy A if you pay attention in lecture and study before exams. There
Professor Danaher was awesome. Took his honors class and it was super small. He was really chill but made a weird topic understandable and cool to learn about. Definitely recommend this for honors credit.
This guy's great. He's really passionate about what he teaches, which is very refreshing and makes the class that much more enjoyable. Take this prof if you ever have the chance.
Terrific professor and class. Professor Danaher is very enthusiastic and the classes are engaging and thought provoking. It's important to do the readings because there's a good amount of discussion, but there's not an overwhelming amount of readings and no busy work. Definitely check out this class/ a class with him!
Really engaging lecturer. His class on dissent against the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe was more philosophical than I expected it to be, and discussions tended to be very open in terms of sharing ideas. Seriously, he's a great guy.
This really is a gem of a class. You go into such fun topics as the music underground in Czechoslovakia and the student movement in Poland. Has several guest speakers come in that were part of the dissident movements. Phenomenal class. Go to lecture and discussion. Reading isn't too bad but is required because of the quizzes.
David is such a wonderful professor words cannot express how great he really is. He loves the Czech Republic and genuinely wants his students to succeed in learning the Czech language and heritage. He's incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and understanding. I would highly recommend taking any course he teaches.
Great teacher. Eloquent lecturer! Enigmatic and fun. Very knowlegeable. His tests are fairly easy and he enjoys creativity in his projects.
David is probabaly the coolest teacher i've encountered, his class is pretty hard--but i mean you ARE learning a Slavic language--He's extremely helpful and funny. He doesn't use a textbook anymore because its no longer in print, but he does have a lot of handouts and grammar exercises to do. apply yourself and you'll do good in this class.
