He is very friendly and eager to help but sometimes I couldn't hear what he's saying.

Dr. Baum was a good lecturer! He gives lots of practice materials for the evolution module that are really helpful to study for the exam. Sometimes his answers to questions weren't the most clear, but usually his explanations of the content were clear.

I liked Dr. Baum as a person, he made lectures/slides funny. He was kinda hard to understand, which is not his fault at all, but he was incredibly helpful in office hours. He did a good enough job explaining the content. In my opinion, Evolution was the hardest 152 module, but that also could be because I barely paid attention in lecture.

Dr. Baum taught evolution in BIO152. Overall pretty good, and offered plenty of practice for his unit. He was slightly difficult to understand at times, though through no fault of his own. He was energetic during lectures and encouraged student input.

Pretty good lecturer! The content is very theoretical but overall okay

Baum taught the evolution section of Bio 152. His lectures were insightful and useful, but it is hard to understand him most of the time, in part due to his accent and slight lisp. He has real-time subtitles in his lecture that never work, but his lecture recordings have a correct transcript that highlights his effective lecturing.

Dr. Baum was a great professor and truly loves his job! He constantly asked students to reach out to him and provided many resources to help anyone with questions. He also had practice quizzes for every lecture which was very helpful when reviewing.

David is very passionate and is way better than the 151 and 152 professors. He cares and also provides a lot of practice resources which others don't.

Dr. Baum is clearly passionate about the concepts within evolution (the module he covered in the lecture. He provides many practice quizzes to help students obtain and practice the knowledge. However, he was hard to understand and not very technology savvy leading to having to rely on the textbook and the lecture recordings.

Dr. Baum is one of my favorite professors I've had at UW! I had the pleasure of having him as a professor in both BIO 152 (intro biology) and ZOO 410 (evolutionary biology), and he was exemplary in both courses. Dr. Baum is an excellent lecturer and very accessible. He goes above and beyond to help make sure students succeed :)

Over qualified for lecturing an introductory Biology course (I mean this is a positive manner). Inspiring and clear in explaining concepts. Provided a helpful review lecture prior to the final exam for his section that covered student-suggested concepts for clarification.

Dr. Baum is a knowledgeable and highly qualified evolution professor. This was one of the few times that I felt there was more than enough practice material and help sessions for one to do well in the class. He cares about student success; if you put in the work, you can definitely succeed in his section of the class.

Dr. Baum is a solid lecturer who obviously cares a lot about his students. He's very available outside of class, and provides practice quizzes for each reading which are perfect for preparing for exams. His lectures are organized. He also obviously knows a ton about the subject, since some of the concepts are things he's worked on personally.

Davids lectures are boring compared to Simon and Johnathan, but all 152 lectures are slow. He gives WAY more practice questions than the other 152 profs, which allowed me to easily get 100% on his exam. If you can listen to his lectures without falling asleep you'll be fine.

His evolution module was my favorite out of the 3 in 152. He had multiple help sessions per week and also created lecture quizzes after each lecture to make it easier to review. He made the course content very interesting, and is ultra-qualified.

Dr. Baum showed that he cared about the topic he was teaching, evolution and in his lectures he often explained the topic clearly.

Baum is a decent professor who is clearly passionate about what he is teaching. Lectures were taught at a slow pace making it hard to stay engaged, but plenty of outside resources were provided to help study for the exam. The exam was fair and very straightforward. Overall, I personally wouldn't want to take from him again but not bad nonetheless.

Lectures were definitely fast-paced and full of lots of information. If powerpoints were a bit more detailed that would really help with the fast pace.

Professor Baum is very passionate about biology and also about iClicker. He will call on people who raise their hands in the front row to answer questions, too (if they raise their hands). While I struggled majorly with the evolution module, he is accessible for answering questions during office hours which helped.

Dr. Baum is definitely one of the best professors I have had so far. He was accessible outside of class and his exam was super fair. If you studied it went well. Having said this, Baum gives out practice quizzes for each lecture which are just like the exam. Overall, his section was well organized and had plenty of resources to succeed.

Snobby and arrogant. Makes students explain their answers to iclicker instead of him. Impossible test and quizzes. Also forces you to learn about his own research and tests you on it. Avoid.

I found his lectures not very helpful but attending them is mandatory which just meant that I had to do extra studying for the content covered during class because I couldn't understand the way he presented it.

Absolute Goat

Professor Baum gave great lectures that made the content simple to follow. The material was really dense but definitely manageable. Accessible outside of class and will answer any questions to help you understand the material

Professor Baum is a super great lecturer who makes sure to give plenty of practice quizzes, practice questions, and opportunities for students to ask questions. Hes a good teacher and a funny guy.

exams are just like the given non-mandatory practice quizes

Great Professor. Genuinely nice, funny guy who wants his students to do well. He answers every and any question you ask and never makes you feel dumb for asking them. Bio 152 is a hard class in my opinion, but I don't hate it so far because of how good of a professor he is. Wonderful person.

The transition to online happen during his module. Personally, not a fan of Evolution and found some concepts really hard. Gives a lot of quizzes (not graded) to help students. Exam was challenging. Had multiple office hours. Loves iclicker.

He really knows his stuff and manages to make dry material very interesting. He is totally respected and actually pretty funny. I would take a class with him again.

I took his Major Transitions in Evolution FIG and absolutely loved it. He is a great guy who genuinely cares about his students. His lectures are fascinating and he's passionate about his subjects. I will be taking more classes from him in the future.

Wonderful lecturer. Abandoned his students in this class and let his TAs make promises that impacted everyone in the end. Take his classes in person where the grades are handled by people who know what they're doing instead of the unqualified TAs he selected for this course. If anything takes Genetics instead of this online class.

David talked about a million things per lecture. The slides were packed with information that was hard to get all the information out of them before he moved on. He seemed to care about the success of his students but test questions were often written poorly and were pretty tricky sometimes. His sections requires a lot of understanding.

David is a really great professor who genuinely cares about students and their success. His lectures can get pretty detailed so reading the book is important. He encourages questions during class and loves to engage with students. Honestly just a wonderful human being. I would definitely take his class again. Exams are not super easy so study!

Dr. Baum was a wonderful professor who is very engaging and has a lot of fascinating material. That being said, his lectures are often too detailed and complicated. Verbal feedback/Questions from students during lecture are too emphasized, and frankly not conducive to a productive lecture environment. Exam much harder than previous material as well

The beginning information was clear of the section. However the last three lectures leading up the exam were very detailed and were asked in detail on the exam. Sometimes the wording was confusing as well. Exam was hard so study!

Dr. Baum was a fun professor to have. He cared about his students and wanted all of us to succeed in his FIG. The subject matter itself is a little difficult to understand, but he does his best to make the students interested in it and experts on it.

Baum is a great professor. He is passionate about the course material, and more than ready to help you if you need it. He genuinely wants you to succeed, even outside of his class, and helped me understand how undergraduate research works, and what to expect out of interviews and the like. Don't be afraid to ask him for help outside of class!

Dr. Baum cares about what he is teaching, and his lectures reflect this and are very interesting. His FIG is awesome!

Professor Baum is a great instructor! He knows his field very well (even incorporated his own research into the lectures--how cool is that?!) and it's fun to listen to him present. He's extremely accessible outside of class, whether online or in person. He genuinely cares about student success and is willing to go the extra mile.

My favorite teacher so far, had him for a seminar class and he was so caring about every student's needs and individual pace. He's very into the material and it's clear that he loves teaching and everything evolution and botany. If you have the chance to be his student you are lucky and will see why he is such a great professor!

Such a great professor!! Its clear that he really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. His exams are not to difficult if you attend lecture and study the lecture material. Consider yourself lucky if you get him as a professor!

Best professor I've ever had... At madison :)

Baum's one of the best lecturers across the Biology department, he explains things very clear and actually cares for your grades. His exams are fairly okay, quite easy if you study and do a lot of the practice questions provided by him. Questions could be tricky in the exams, so make sure you read it a few times. But overall, his classes are great

Dr. Baum is a caring and patient professor who is nice to students. He is always willing to explain the questions to us. Some of the questions in his quizzes and exams are pretty tricky and confusing, and the exam is harder than sample exam even he said they would be equally difficult. But overall, he is a very nice and clever professor.

Dr. Baum is one of the reasons I saw the true value in going to a well respected research university. He incorporates his research into the lectures - which may sound intimidating, but it actually made the lecture more interesting. He is invested in helping. His exam was very wordy and 3x as difficult as the practice test, so beware of that.

I have never met a professor who is more involved or caring. Prof Baum makes class time enjoyable and really sparks my interest further into biology. 10/10 recommend for sure.

Baum is so knowledgeable and is such an effective teacher! He does a good job encouraging student participation which really helps everyone engage in the lecture material rather than just absentmindedly copying down slides. He clearly explains all important concepts and what will be on the exam, with practice exams provided.

Baum is a sweet professor who is good at explaining concepts. He really encourages participation in class through TopHat questions. His quizzes and questions are very similar to the exam questions which overall makes his portion of the class very easy if you pay attention in lecture.

Professor Baum is an awesome guy, full of energy and very knowledgeable. He can explain complex ideas clearly and is very willing to let students understand ideas. His lecture is interesting and inspirational. Definitely do not miss the lecture (also because of Tophat). He seeks feedback from students about the courses.

Had Prof. Baum for 1/3 of a semester during which he covered evolution. As a lecturer he is engaging and fun to listen to. He has occasional funny remarks to make about what he is teaching and that is a gem. The only problem was that at times the Tophat questions in lecture or those on the exam were phrased in a confusing manner. But it isnt toobad

Professor Baum is a great guy. He was able to make the lectures interactive in a class of 300. Very good at presenting material in an understandable way and good at answering questions. He does write somewhat tricky questions for quizzes and exams, but he was clear on what you need to know for them. Reading the text is helpful, but not necessary.

David is amazing and funny and adorable and i would suggest him to anyone because he is the best. He explains things well and asks students for questions very frequently during lecture.

He was a decent professor and a nice guy, but his tests are designed to trick you. There were numerous problems which made you second guess on, or just have 2 or 3 answers that seemed right and you needed an encyclopedic understanding to answer it correctly. Steer clear if you're looking to get an A, it's extremely difficult with Baum.

Not much to say. He is a very passionate speaker, and is very clear in his lectures. The class itself can be challenging, but Baum makes it worthwhile.

David is one of the best professors I have ever has. He was really excited about his teaching and worked to make sure that students understood the material. He came to our discussion sections and talked to everyone. He was approachable in and out of class.

He really enjoys teaching and makes the class enjoyable. The exams are kind of tricky so pay attention in lecture. The IP project will take over your life so be prepared.

David is a great professor. He is very enthusiastic about his work and material is very clear. He is extremely willing to answer your questions and is very approachable. Test questions can be a bit confusing though.

David is a really nice guy! He attended lab sections in an effort to get to know people, and learned a lot of names in our 200 person lecture. Reading is not mandatary or necessary, but it's helpful for clarification. Printing off slides is a good idea. That being said, he does like to trick you on exams...be sure to read carefully!

Baum is a great professor. He is such a nice guy and really understands what he's talking about. Tests can be kind of tricky, but he holds review sessions and is very helpful in them. And he has the best accent!

Baum is a great professor. He is very nice, and very helpful. Sometimes he gets so caught up and excited about what he teaches, he often confuses himself. His tests were long, and tricky. Labs are jokes jokes jokes! This class is like an english com arts course but with some science. Dont skip, he uses materials outside the book too.

Baum is a decent professor. He uses a lot of iClicker questions for credit so make sure to go to lecture. His tests are tricky. Lots of long-winded conceptual questions so you should study quite a bit. It is easy to get a B in this class. Getting an AB or an A is a little more challenging. Lab write ups are a lot of work outside of the actual lab.

Professor Baum is a great professor. The multiple choice exams are difficult but that is a personal opinion. Very helpful during office hours. He's very passionate about the material he's teaching and wants students to understand it also. Slightly unrelated, the lab section is very frustrating and monotonous with pointless time consuming write ups.

LOVED Baum! He expects a lot from his students but he makes himself available for questions and is amazing at knowing what his students don't understand. He teaches his students in a way that really makes them learn the material. If you can, take a class with him!

Prof. Baum is adorable. He's passionate about what he teaches, and explains himself well. He's great at interacting with the class and always encourages questions. The course itself wasn't fun, but he was a great professor.

Baum was fantastic. I was really bummed with 151 until the evolution section w/ Baum. Great lecturer. Really showed the beauty of evolution. He was so enthusiastic and really passionate about teaching all of the fascinating aspects of evolution to us. Encouraged asking questions and encouraged thinking. Seemed like a really nice, intelligent guy.

Awsome professor. The class isn't curved, but he wanted to make sure that everyone understood the material. If you're confused about something, all you have to do is ask- he's more than willing to help.

Of the 3 lecturers, he was the best! explained evolution well, made lectures more enjoyable than the other two professors did, and has a great british accent to hold your attention if evolution isnt your thing. uses slides and gives practice quizzes and exams. encourages participation by having students write out questions that he answers via emial

He's adorable. I love this guy.

You have to be really organized with his class. Note taking is easy enough when he gives you the print outs with holes to make sure that you are paying attention and coming to class. On the other hand, it is really difficult to fill those gaps when you are sick and can't find anyone who can fill those gaps. Love the plant of the day.

Dr. Baum rocks! His lectures were almost always interesting and even entertaining. They include everything from Harry Potter, to tea making, to Guiness commercials, to the "woad" song. Even with these fun elements, he presents excellent material and is a great teacher. His tests are not the easies...studying and class attendance is a must!

prof. baum is the cutest little guy with an english accent and an awesome teacher!! WAYYY better than Hernandez, so if you can put up with her, you'll do well with baum. his powerpoint lectures are very organized and clear.

This professor rocks!! His lectures are so much fun, and he even taught us how to make tea. I just wish he taught more Botany classes for undergrads!

Very helpful, very passionate. He incorporated lots of fun stuff into the lectures. He really loves what he does!

Great professor, very dedicated and doesn't try to trick you on exams. Good guy!

Nice guy, easy to follow.

hes a really nice guy and the best of the three. his material seems easier than the other two, but his tests are kinda hard. he doesn't test on stuff out of the book, so don't even bother reading it

He is the reason I go to lecture. He's a lot better than Goodman and Perna, and allows everyone to write down a question after lecture, and then responds to them via e-mail! It's really helpful. He also is a cute little man, his accent is fun to listen to.

an average professor. teaches from power point, never takes test material from the book, so don't waste your time reading it. easy class if you go to lecture. tests are MC, not too bad. he has a thick british accent with a lisp! entertaining sometimes.
