DEAN KROUK

On the whole very easy class and professor. However, you will have to sit through hours on end of SJW monologues. Dean while a nice guy, is not open at all to opinions that differ from his own, and tends to get upset when they are share out loud. If you're looking for an easy class take this one, but be ready to leave your own opinions at the door.

Dean is an amazing professor and one of my favorites. You can tell he cares a lot about the subjects he teaches as well as the students, and he's the most understanding professor I've ever had. He always encourages students to share their thoughts and has never been rude when others have different ideas / opinions. I've loved every class with him!

His course offers something for people just taking it for credit and people taking it because they genuinely want to dive deeply into Scandinavian culture and history. Very good at managing class discussions to encourage involvement while preventing only a few people from dominating discussion time.

I have enjoyed all of Dr. Krouk's lectures in all of his classes. There is a lot of reading, but it is good reading and is to be expected in a litterature class. Grading was clear and he answered questions outside of class in a timely manner. I felt encouraged to explore Scandi litterature by him, and he was always ready with a good book rec.

A lot of reading and a good amount of writing, but that's to be expected in a history class. Most classes were discussion based, and Prof. Krouk was really good about facilitating discussions between/among students rather than simply saying what's right or wrong. Lectures were always really helpful at clarifying the important info from the readings

His lectures are dry, and his attitude can become very condescending. He has a tendency to steamroll conversations, much to the discontent of his students. He's not a difficult grader, but if you have to put up with his haughty attitude the whole semester, is it worth it? I've had much better teachers at UW and in the same department.
