It was a challenging class and opened me to lots of ideas about gender and sexuality in media representation. The final project was pretty exciting. Prof. Mini made the finals as a creative project and it was cool to see projects on video games and zines, scripts, video essays and documentaries made by students.
Dr. Mini is smart, caring and really want you to succeed. I like the energy she brings in for her in person classes. Glad that I took this course. I learned a lot about film analysis.
While we didn't have much contact (massive class with mostly online lectures, in-person discussions w/TAs), I liked her energy for the in-person lectures. You (the reader) should consider this review less informative than some of the others, but it she has a good attitude and is a willing and caring individual. I'd take another class w/ her.
Great class if you're interested in film. Lectures are well organized and clear and the TA was great. Lots of content to catch up with, but easy enough if you pay attention and do the work.
Prof. Mini is knowledgable and is passionate about her area of study. The shot segmentation assignment was certainly challenging. But I liked the course organization and opportunity to learn about formal analysis. I enjoyed the class and learned to write critically about films.
Dr. Mini is an excellent professor and she really cares about her students. She is always willing to help outside of class and I enjoyed interacting with her during lectures. I highly recommend this class if you want to learn more about film analysis.
Dr. Mini is very knowledgeable about film, but often found myself confused/lost during lectures due to organization. I learned more in this course by reading the textbook and going to discussion sections alone. Big assignments are heavily weighted without much opportunity to practice the concepts learned. Don't take if not needed!
She's very organized and wants you to be as well. I went to meet her in the office a few times, and that one on one interaction really helped me improve. Would recommend!
Great teacher! The class was interesting and the policy to have lectures mostly online was perfect for this class. I enjoyed class a ton and learned a lot about film!
Professor Mini is a great teacher, but I was severely disappointed that the lectures were online. She has a great attitude and I enjoyed interacting with her during live lectures. Online doesn't do her passion justice. Lots of watching films and lectures, but that's to be expected. Papers aren't too bad and plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Lectures are mostly recorded and posted in canvas, with a handful of mandatory in person lectures. She's very passionate about her area of study. This course is a great intro to film, hence the class name, and includes mostly history and production focusing on the formal elements of movies. It's a great plunge into films if you aren't a cinephile.
